I'm glad they ported this to PC. Had a lot of fun with it as a kid even tho I sucked at it, lol. Just recently installed it on my "Wayback Virtual Machine", a Win XP VM which will have my childhood Windows apps. Googled for mods and found this vid. Didn't know about the remake. Thanks for the mention and link!
Ever since I first played this game (just a few years after it came out), I've always wondered how it would be if the Precinct Assault caps could be lifted or increased. E.g., more than 20 hover tanks or jet choppers, or multiple dreadnoughts or sky fortresses. Also, imagine modding it so that you, the player, could recharge your health the way Sky Captain does at his base. Or perhaps somehow making Sky Captain playable (and kicking his ass in the air, as his doppelganger). Another thing I've thought about was using the weird-looking turrets in the Precinct Assault FMV (probably concept art or beta-phase testing). But I doubt they left the models in for those. Oh, and here's a big one I've always wanted to try: using the Crime War exclusive weapons in Precinct Assault. No cheat code could ever unlock them. These are the fusion torpedoes and the plasma flare launcher (not sure if there's another Crime War exclusive weapon) that can only be used in the main mode of the game (they get unlocked at certain levels). I've always wanted to hit Sky Captain with those homing fusion torpedoes. This one isn't a modding thing, but just something funny I've noticed in Precinct Assault: the announcer is biased in favour of you, the red team. He announces blue losses and other misfortunes in a normal or cheerful manner. Meanwhile, red losses or other misfortunes are announced sadly, and he sounds especially sad if Sky Captain gets a unit into your base ("Red base is destroyed"). Actually, a fun modding-challenge would be swapping the teams. You could texture Sky Captain to be red, then assign him the red units (and make the announcer count him as red). Meanwhile, the player could be the blue team. Of course, given how hard this game is to mod, those are just thoughts in words.
1) You can lift the caps! If you use Cheat Engine, at least 2) You can also use the limited weapons! It requires a cheat on the ps1 emulator though. I am sure cheat Engine would also, but it'd be a bit more work
mhh I wish I could build more units ...imagine: 50, 100 oder even more little tanks fighting each other and I'm sitting in my base, rebuilding tanks and enjoying the chaos on the battlefield 😍
Great to see somebody working on this. The main thing I've wanted since forever was a modern source port for the original. That's going to take a lot more work though.
well i will give you my respects. When i was kid i was amazed with this game for some time, but then lost it and never found it again cause i didnt speak or read english back then. You are actually doing reverse engineering wich is very hard, but at least you are trying. There are lots of old games wich have lost source codes, but i hope that moding comunities wil lsson come up with tools wich will help to get source codes qucker. So keep up, eventualy you will break ice :)
That isn't how it went down: there was a pc version but no official Mac version planned. The development team worked on their own time to do the Mac version. They did it as a labor of love.
I tried to speedrun the game a bit and I must say it must have messed with my brain. Most of the video I was seeing your gameplay and expect you to just walk over most walls and then I see you activate a switch to unlock the rest of the level and I'm like "oh right that's how you're supposed to do it".
When I was a kid, I discovered an interesting bug/glitch that can make you skip through levels. Basically, transform into the speeder mode of X1-Alpha (the fast mode, not walker), and position yourself near a certain type of wall (a thin one that sticks out). If you use the strafe button to force yourself against the wall, you'll eventually glitch through and come out on top of the wall. It only works on certain types of walls or parts of buildings, though. You can't just strafe against any wall and glitch on top (also, this trick can backfire in the Venice Beach Crime War stage. Don't use it on the pillars/supports of the bridge going over the water near the start of the level. You'll glitch down and get stuck in the pillar).
Can you mod and uncap the framerate? The game seems to be internally locked at 38 fps. Having a proper 60 fps would be nice, or even 76 fps if doubling the framerate is easier than 60.
It looks like those image files could be all you need to texture 🤔 They look like when you remap a 3D object in say Blender, and it twists and bends the image to suit different angles. If you can figure out what each part represents, in theory you could just retexture the whole thing... 🤔 Would be a nightmare to start, but once you started to get the hang of it.. I'd suggest using numbered shapes of different colours and see where they're applied in game, to figure out what goes where, which in turn should help show you where everything else is, and so on.. Good luck my guy.. would be very cool to see how this progresses 🤟🏻
its funny how your trying to mod future cop lapd, im trying to mod ''incoming 1998'', like i wanted to add in my own ships/aircrafts/turrets etc but the files are not compatable to blender so idk where i can make ships for ''incoming 1998'' (i did change the textures and sounds and mission scripts and added in cut features that were in the files)
By default, when you first install the game, player 1 will have the letter side of the keyboard, and player 2 will have then number pad. If you feel that your bindings are messed up, delete "controls.txt" found in the game files, and re-install. For new OS, you can not change controls in game, you will need to fiddle around with the text document.
i downloaded it from the internet yesterday(a 7z file). It took me 3 hours to emulate it and install. I found a file on the internet that allowed me to install the game, i've no idea how
@@randyfadillah6273 drive.google.com/open?id=1k8S2dJt6VKAJPw3zDhQkaUsy_Nb9ZMVu The file is an ISO now you can use whatever method to run/open this. I think the EXE will work right out of the ISO without installation my method is using UltraISO (www.ultraiso.com) and mounting the game as a virtual drive. (ruclips.net/video/jsiGdwXaJVA/видео.html) Although the EXE might work straight out of the ISO file, I highly recommend you install it first, now you probably will get a "16bit not compatible with 64bit" error, but there is an installer for future cop that will let it work. (www.play-old-pc-games.com/2014/05/23/future-cop-lapd/) Although that might not be enough to get the game stable. Once you've installed to game, -right click on the installed EXE, -go to properties and then click the tab compatibility, -check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and first start with Windows XP (service pack 3). -Then check "Run this program as an administrator". Now if you're on windows 7 that should be enough to get it to work, but windows 10 is a bit harder. for windows 10/the game still isn't working, -select a windows that is lower than XP -change colors to 16 bit -check disable fullscreen optimizations (windows 10 only) -check run in 640x480 If that game still doesn't work then run the installer again and choose a different render type. But I think that should be it. If you have an questions and somethings not working then just reply to this comment, but i'll most likely give an immediate response over on the discord
