They were both using the Piranha bowling ball. I had that exact ball. Was my first reactive resin ball. Was using a Rhino urethane before that. Good times!
Marshall was SIX years removed from his last win here, while he had made 17 shows since then he was way past his prime, he only made two more shows after this and won once more in 1996. The 90's weren't exactly kind to Pete either but he made up for it later on with a career resurgence in the 2000's.
WRW Jr. began bowling when he began college at Cal Poly Pomona, which would've been in the mid 1970s. He began as a Junior at Bowlium Lanes in Montclair, Calif. By 1983 he held the high average of 223 (if memory serves me) in a scratch league at Landmark Bowl in Pomona, Calif. Mark Baker bowled in the same league, as did many top bowlers in southern California.
The great thing about this upload is I thoroughly enjoy seeing both of these eggheads lose. The bad thing about this upload is I absolutely hate seeing either one win.
I can tell the only thing you know about either one is what you've seen on TV or heard third hand from people who also never met either one. Two of the nicest people on the planet when they weren't working. Two of the most competitive people on the planet when they were working. Marshall and I had the same instructor, John Jowdy, and the Master Mechanic from whom I learned about Brunswick pinsetters was a very good friend of Dick Weber, who frequented our lanes and brought a then young teenage Pete in with him.
I miss PBA on Saturday afternoons.
So nice seeing two close friends compete.

I know one thing you never won anything because you suck at bowling.
The 90s went rather well early and later on (especially 1997) but that middle period was his low point for sure. Rollercoaster decade, perhaps
Wow been 30 years since this event was broadcasted ! 1st place for this event was $40,000 plus
MARSHALL HOLMAN YOU'RE MY FAVORITE PROFESSIONAL BOWLER! CHRIS HOCH
Always liked that Weber swagger.
Ironically, it was MARSHALL who wound up winning his 22nd before Pete did!!!! ;-)

Holman won his 22nd on October 15, 1996.

When did Walter Ray first start bowling?
Around 1984. He was player of the year in 1986, so before that.

Well, Marshall was considerably older than Pete, so no surprise him getting his 22nd first. Pete blew by him in a big way
Weber got his 22nd by winning that match Holman still at 21

Yeah... 5 balls, what kind are we talking about? Bowling balls? I think you mean 5 pins.
Weber looks so gay with a stub ponytail. Also with a mullet. LOL!
