Alfa 75 or Alfa 156 - Which V6 is best??

- Which Alfa Romeo should I give attention to first - my 1986 Alfa 75 2.5 V6, or my 1998 Alfa 156 2.5 V6? It's a Busso-engined dilemma! Both these modern classic cars need some attention before they can go through an MOT, so I'd like to ask you, the viewer - which of the two cars you would like to see on the road first. Leave me a comment below to give me your opinion!

Hi Chris,Both great cars.Personally I would go for the 75 first, purely because I love em and we need to keep as many old Alfas on the road as possible(sorry to all the “drivers”of those new fangled battery on wheels thing’ys)😅
Haha yes I’m completely with you on that score! Electric cars feel like white goods to me 😉
@@TheAlfaNutCheers Chris,enjoy the Cappuccinos🍵
Spot on Rob. Plus the 75 is the pinnacle of 80s box design - I just love 'em. Iconic - every single one that can needs to be rescued.
@@Rob-oi9mf Hi Robin! Thanks very much for the coffee mate - I have sent you a personal message. :0)
@@johnphaceas7434 Agreed John - this one is not very original but it's definitely a drivers car and I'll be spending some time & effort on improving it as best as I can.
If you remember sitting in a NEW Alfa 75 (with 3miles) at the dealer in 1992 - You’ll always pick the 75.
Also the magic mix of avant-garde-art design and engineering brilliance. However good the 156 is (and it is) it just isn’t that. 🙂
Thanks for watching mate, ok I agree with you - the 75 is a special car 😎👍🏻
"If you remember sitting in the very last 2002 156, top of the range, fully optioned including electric Webasto sunroof, cruise control and upgraded Recaro electric seats in Alfa Red, in the show room, on a spinning turn table, you will pick the 156 hands down!" LOL
75 all day long!! Ive had two 156 and now have a V6 75 and love the 75 so much even if tries my patience at every turn.
Thanks for voting! Looks like the 75 is winning so far 😎👍🏻
Chris good to have you back, we missed you! Even though I own a 156 - and which by the way had the interior recently restored, I guess 75 has a priority. I love your channel and always
Watching your nice videos. I Like your not so British humour as well ! Greetings to all ALFISTI from sunny Athens!
Γεια σου Δημήτρη, πώς είσαι? Thanks also for voting - the 75 is winning at the moment!
My old 156 ❤❤ absolutely loved that thing, so would be good to see it finished and getting properly used 👌🏽
Hey Lee. Hows it going mate? Still doing the new career? The 156 is going to get a new interior soon - rest of the mechanics are completed, (apart from aircon) it was MOT’d last year but only got driven once on an Alfa driveout. You are right, it needs to be driven more regularly! 👍🏻
I had 156 2.0 TS, I still miss that car. 75 looks nice, but the silver 156 from 1998 was one of the best vehicles I have owned. Even if the suspension was not as good as on the GT 2007, overall the 1998 really deserved the title back in the day, think it was voted European car of the year. Comfortable, economical, sporty - a pleasure to drive.
Agreed - the 156 was one of the most successful Alfas of all time - about 760,000 were built! I love my 156 :0)
Hi Chris! Another great video 👍
I prefer the 156 2.5 V6. I know this car, as I was the owner of a 156 SW 2.5 V6 for more than 10 years.
I love the design of the 156, and of course the fantastic V6 Busso.
However the 75 is great too.
Hi Stanislas - how are you? Thanks for voting - the 156 was behind in the voting but it is catching up now! I will do BOTH cars of course! ;0)
156 wagon is still a head turner.
Nice to have you back, as a 156 owner im biased, but reckon the 75 needs more love first.
Oh that's a very noble point of view David - spoken like a true Alfisti! ;0)
Do the 75! Its rare now, and I cant get enough of seeing that weird handbrake!😂
Hi Henry, ok thanks - yes its a super cool item isn’t it? 😂
American dealers referred to it as the Easter basket handle.
@@shortsongs9394 I'd refer to it as "...the b*stard that nips my fingers!" ;0)
Good to see you again🙂
Both are great cars, but I’ll choose the 156👍🏼🍀
Thanks for watching and voting mate - at the moment, the 75 is winning though! 😜
156 for me, man I miss my 156 but it would have cost a mortgage to get fixed. Happily 159ti owner now, daily driver only 76,000ml. Love it❤
Cheers for voting Stevie - so far the 75 appears to be winning but don’t worry, I’ll sort out both of them! 😉👍🏻
Because you've worked on it recently, I'd say carry on with the 75 restoration - we need a part 2 video 😉
Hi Romain! How are you? Ok - got your vote! 👍🏻
All good. Been considering a 156 SW 2.5 V6 but now gone sadly. Good luck with the next video!
@@romainhervy9964 The SW versions seem to pop up now and again, I'm sure you'll find another one. Cheers!
Hi Chris -, Wow that was some heavy rain!!! I can’t say I miss that aspect about living in the UK! Oh the cars…. Jump on that 75 first! Both are nice though.
Cheers Martin! Yes I was marooned at work for a couple of hours due to flooding which was annoying 🤨. Duly noted that your vote goes to the 75! 👍🏻
Hi Chris, that’s a difficult questions because I like both and would like to see content of both. But as I am owning a 156 too, I would appreciate to see content of 156 first. Especially your quality experience ,especially with upper wishbone noises and overall corrosion. Fortunately I saved my 156 in winter with regular underbody cleaning and cavity conversation, but heard also about 156 with lot corrosion.
The 75 is technically much more sophisticated. Transaxle, rear drive, and overall concentration on racing technology. The 156 is based on FIAT Tipo platform and is more conventional, apart from great suspension construction. The 2.0 TS is a great engine for the 156 because of the much lower weight on front axis, while the Busso V6 is a dream for that car.
Thanks for your thoughts mate, my 156 has uprated suspension and handles very well for a V6 but had lots of corrosion which needed to be repaired.
Greetings from Greece Chris in my opinion 75 all the way.its my favourite alfa vehicle and i would love to see the restoration and upgrades you will make
γεια σας! Hi mate, thanks for watching and voting - the 75 is winning the competition! 😉👍🏻
My heart told me 156...
Haha ok Patrik - thanks for voting!

Cheers for watching Andy - what do you drive now?
Most are voting for the 75, I see. Let me put a vote in for the lively 156. But really, I want to see both, if you please!
Hi James, how are you? I'll still be doing both cars as you probably guessed, so don't fret!
@@TheAlfaNut I have a 156 and 75, myself. Not as well polished as your own. Massive welding job ahead!
Good man! The 156 has a floorpan made of chocolate unfortunately - mine needed loads of work too! My 75 is rust free thankfully, been completely restored underneath.
I'd go for the 75. And I got a sense from your face expression that you'd want that too as well. The 75 is a classic and with the V6 engine is even more desirable. Don't get me wrong I love the 156 as well but I believe it can wait a bit longer
Hi mate, how are you? Well the 75 is a bit more "exotic" and old and is obviously a very important milestone in Alfas history, so maybe you are right! ;0)
Love both, but would enjoy the 75 videos more I think.
Good to know! Thanks for voting mate.
I like the 156 way more, own one too, but since the 75 can be fixed quicker, I would start with that.
Good idea - the 75 has more votes so far too!
75, great looking car that deserves the love.
Thanks for voting Piglet!
Hi Chris , it’s your choice , and based on your own priorities. If you asked which model I prefer, I will always say the 75 as I still regard it the last real Alfa Romeo, but I’m biased as I had 2 , both TS and 3 litre V6. I still think the cars after we’re good , I liked the 155 and 156 , but had a liking for the 33 as well . Which ever you choose, enjoy. BTW keep giving updates on your Beta Spider.coming, did you manage the carburettor situation you talked about in your vid - i recommended the Malossi fuel filter if you remember.
Hi Martin, yes thanks I remember - I have been driving the Spyder quite a bit and it’s actually running very well now! I think it just needed to be used - like all old cars, they don’t like being stored and carbs especially gum up don’t they? I’ve been spending time trying to improve the indicators as they were very faint - the main culprit seemed to be the hazard switch which after cleaning has made a difference. Electrics are not a strong point on the Betas!
The 75 is a real rwd-car, with race attributes. It even sounds and looks great.
The 156 is just a fwd-car for families, yet with good steer capabilities.
To be honest, there is nothing to discuss. The 75 is the keeper!
I agree with you about the 75 but I think the 156 is a little more than just a fwd car for families! Its also very pretty don’t you think?
156 ❤ but whichever you choose, have the other in the background so it’s not forgotten!
Cheers for your vote Peter - both cars will be done on video in the end, so everyone will get to see their favourite! 😉👍🏻
Do you have a 156?
The 156, just before the facelift.
Far, far better quality than the 75, and actually a better driving car.
The only one of my Alfa's I truely miss is my 2.0 V6 - 156.
But then I just remember changing the oil/oilfilter, the stupid rusty srews in the airfilter box, ultimately changing the timingbelt...
Then I'm ok again 😀
Hi mate, thanks for watching and commenting. My 156 drives really well - it has uprated bushes and Koni adjustable suspension! I haven't driven the 75 yet though, so I'm loking forward to comparing them!
Love the subtitles - instead of Chris the Alfa Nut, it shows “Chris the Elephant”!!!
Haha, classic! I' must see that! Cheers for watching mate
@@TheAlfaNut always a pleasure. As a previous owner of an Alfetta GTS and three Lancia HPEs I very much enjoy your posts.
I do love an HPE - my cousin bought one in 1982 and I was very jealous - made me buy a Beta coupe a few years later!
I would get a double garage and keep both. If I had to pick one I'd do the 75 as I guess there are fewer of them and we need to keep as many classics as possible. Love the cars at the show. I have never seen so much rain in all my life
Haha - me neither and it rains a LOT in Devon! I'm definitely keeping both cars, just wanted to see which one was of more interest to my viewers. So far, the 75 is the winner!
@@TheAlfaNut fair enough. I see why the 75 is getting more votes. They are certainly rarer than the 156. I've never even seen one at the car shows I've been to
Hey Chris hope u had a great holiday and if it was my choice I would have chozen the 75 v6 allthough the 156 is a great looking car but not that real ALFA like the 75 and especially the sound of it
Hey Robert, yes thanks it was a bit too busy but not bad. Looks like the 75 is winning so far! 😎
Difficult to decide. Both are wonderful cars, but as I've owned three 156s I'm biased and would like to see the that one finished off first. Plus the front end of a 156 is so pretty.
Agreed - the 156 is a really timeless design and still hasn’t really dated.
75 all day everyday. Got the 70’s dna 👍🏾
Thanks for voting Stephen - the 75 is winning so far! Do you have an Alfa?
I have a 75ts and a 156gta. I'd personally consider selling the gta, but 75 I'd like to keep forever. 75 would be my priority.
I know what you mean - the GTA is rare and cool but the 75 is an important piece of Alfa history!
156 please. I have a 1999 2.0TS 156 from new and I love it.
Thanks for voting John and well done for looking after your 156 for so long 👍🏻
Hi Chris
Do the 75 and get the 156 ready for the spring
Hi mate, thanks for watching! The way the weather is going, I won't be driving either of them until the Spring! ;0)
I’d like to see the work on the 156, but I think I’m in the minority on that.
Hey mate, hows it going? Thanks for voting - in fact opinion seems to be getting more balanced - I'll be doing both anyway so don't worry!
Both great I got both 1988 milano quadrifoglio oro 2.5 black and 2000 156 2.5 6 speed manual lusso wooden steering and dash trim Cosmo blue
Also I got 2000 156 twin spark 2lt. Manual fantasia blue and I just bought a 1982 alfetta 2lt.
Thanks for watching. You obviously have great taste in Alfa Romeo’s! And a Frida Kahlo fan too? 😎👍🏻
@TheAlfaNut thank you I would like if you test drive an aletta sedan and talk about it please

@Liban46227 Sounds like a great find - does it need lots of work? I will hopefully review the Alfetta at some point - I have to find one first and they are super rare in the UK!
156 - there’s less restoration videos on these so good to see something different I do like the 75 more but there’s more content on them already
Hi Andrew -thanks for votoing and yes I agree that there isn't much 156 content out there! Do you have an Alfa?
@@TheAlfaNut no worries! yeh I got a 116 gtv and a 952 Giulia Veloce 👍👍

From a point of personal interest, I'd say the 75. But my heart is feeling for that 156, waiting for so long to return on the road. Poor thing...
Yes I have to admit that I felt a bit guilty about not driving the 156 last year - just too many projects going on all at once!
If the 75 fix is quicker and it means you can get it out on the road before autumn really kicks in. Then go for that! The 156 work sounds perfect for November rainy days. So go for the 75!
Hi mate, that is good logic and hopefully we will get a few more sunny days before the Winter drops on us like a wet blanket! Do you have an Alfa in your driveway?

Love the transaxle cars deeply, despite spending several hours ‘attempting’ to change the rear pads. Im getting my 1987 2.5 'Gold' automatic this Sunday, I'm in the states, hopefully your videos help me. Mine is a mess but does run. Can't wait to see which one you start to restore!
let's go with 156
Thanks for voting Michal
I'm biased as I have a Grigio Africa 156 2.0TS with a few mods.
Hi Roberto, good to hear you are also a 156 fan! Thanks for voting 👍🏻
Yep 75 for me 😀
Hi David, thanks for watching and voting - the 75 is winning! 👍🏻
Red over tan 156 please ✔️
Coming up soon Ben! 👍🏻
@@TheAlfaNut 🍀 ❤️
I've had three 156 V6s, including my current GTA daily driver - but a 3.0L 75 Potenziata remains my "perfect" Alfa. Very hard to find here in Oz these days. But one day...
Hi John, thanks for watching and I guess that means you are conflicted but the 75 wins by a narrow margin?
Yep, definitely. My GTA is best car I've ever owned and is a keeper, but I'll always be on the lookout for a 75 V6. Potentially could be convinced to swap my '81 GTV for one I reckon@@TheAlfaNut
@@johnphaceas7434 Ooh - a controversioal move I reckon! Many people think that the GTV is a much prettier car than the 75 but it could be argued that the 75 is more of a brutal looking "Man's car"?
@@TheAlfaNut definitely. I actually bought it on the rebound after a 3.0L 75 I was on my way to see was sold before I got there. The GTV was the very next Alfa I looked at. I've had it about 7 years, it's licenced and running but it is in need of tidying up. I'll probably just hang on to it, and grab a 75 if a bargain pops up.
I bought an ‘83 GTV 2.0 last year but it was in need of too much welding so I sold it on this Spring. Very original and an almost perfect interior though so I got my money back and it went to a local guy with loads of money & other cars who is restoring it, so I didn’t feel too guilty!
75 please
Hi Patric - thanks for voting.
both ;-)
Hi Chris, thanks for watching and voting. I'll do my best - do you have a 75 or a 156?
I have some Alfas, I had a lot, for the moment I have a nice 156, 1,8 ts 1998.;-)@@TheAlfaNut
Good choice, mine is a 1998 too 👍🏻
Ciao Chris, 75 per favore
OK thanks for voting!
Chris. Just wanted to point out that the 156 Seats are originally an option that I also have. Since I've had my car since new, I know they are original. Mine are electric and heated (though not connected, because no one knew where to put the switches). I think they might be Recaro's. New carpets are expensive, but make it look great.
Hi mate, I didn't know that but these were definitely retro fitted as the previous owner told me. Mine can't be adjusted because they are electric only and there is no connection for them, so my seat is stuck in an uncomfortable position! How do you adjust your seat back if they are not connected up?
@@TheAlfaNut Mine are connected, so they are fully adjustable. However, the electric bum warmer is not connected because there's no where to put the switch and no one wanted to drill into a brand new car. I would definitely keep them, but apply some power. There is a switch on the side to move the seat back and forth. Which I'm sure you've already found.
I have a 156 2.0 JTS TI edition from 2004. These are indeed TI seats and back placement is indeed done by a switch on the front left or front right of the seat, depending on which seat you’re sitting.
I never knew these came with bum warmers. I know they give off a slightly cold breeze or warm air while working together with climate control, but as far as I know my seats don’t have bum warmers.
156 first definitely 👍
Cheers Tim - so far the 75 appears to be winning mate - let's hope that the 156 can close the gap before the end of the vote!
75 …..I had one the same, different wheels though. Also had a 156 but it was the Twin Spark……
Hi Graham, thanks a lot for watching. So which one gets your vote in the end?
@@TheAlfaNut I would have to choose the 156 because of the more modern features like the suspension and braking, also the fuel range better suited the 700km country trips I regularly take. My 156 was twinspark Monza 2001 which I had for 7 years. I replaced it with a 2005 156 JTS and I still have this car, 14 years later and 120,000km on board. I have owned about 10 Alfas since 1980 so I may also be an Alfa Nut…..
Cheers from Orstrailyuh….
@grahamklemke2622 Hi Graham, thanks for watching mate! So you are a confirmed Alfa Nut for sure - the 156 is a little gem which is heading back up the usual Alfa price curve! Hang onto yours for another couple of years and it will be worth more than you paid. 😉👍🏻
Hi Alfanut, I have just brought a used 2023 Giulia Veloce, red with the new style wheels. Also balance of 5 years warranty. It also has an iRoad x9 camera wired in front and back…..cheers from the land of Oz.
Love them both, but focus on the 75.
Hi mate, thanks for voting - the 75 appears to be winning at the moment!
Personally I will chose the 75
Ok thanks for voting! 😎👍🏻
156 chris😊
Hi Kirk - thanks for voting mate, the 156 was falling behind earlier but now it seems to be catching up again!
75 For sure!
Cheers for voting Alan! 😎👍🏻
75 to me
Thanks for watching and for your vote - another one for the 75!
156 definitely...... 😊
Thanks for voting mate, duly noted! 👍🏻
156 for sure. 🍀
Cheers for watching Morgan - do you have an Alfa?
@@TheAlfaNut I have owned 156 & recently sold 159. I will certainly be getting another one, just not sure what one next!
Good luck with finding something nice!
75😊
Thanks for voting Nikola! 👍🏻
