It always gets me how this humorous comedy band actually have genuinely really good songs that are also funny but the song s are actually good. Really helps the suspension of disbelief and the realism of the setting, you can believe this really is a successful well known band, the songs are good enough, but it's only when you listen closer you realise that it's a little too over the top, exaggerated just enough to be funny, but at the same time it isn't *that* exaggerated.
I don't know what's funnier the fact that they made a movie off of a joke or the possibility that they all learned how to play guitars for a joke. +RESPECT
Could we turn up the house lights please? That was the queue to turn up the house lights, so we can tell the audience they're the sixth member of the freakin' group.
LOL! I saw Spinal Tap live in Seattle on their Break Like The Wind tour. I wish there was more footage on RUclips. As I recall the giant skull above the stage had smoke rising out of it...and during intermission, behind the curtains, they turned the skull around. The back of the skull now faced the audience and looked like butt cheeks...with the smoke still coming out! And there was also the bit where the band was being lowered to the stage on wires as they played, and bass player Derek Smalls (played by Harry Shearer) got "stuck" hanging up in the air. The band kept right on playing as the stage hands came out to fix the problem and got him lowered to the stage. Seeing these antics live was a real treat! For some reason I can't seem to find anything on the net that mentions their having played at the Moore Theater in Seattle, but I'm sure that's where I saw them.
I´m actually enjoying the song, not just for the memories but because it is a really solid, well written rock song, much better than 99% of today´s music
I think I finally "get" the 'disappearing drummer' thing. These amateur actor-musicians do a great job - but the drummer is always a professional session player, absolutely awesome. So you ALWAYS have a great beat behind the hilarity ... it works. And when you change to a different session drummer depending on what town you're playing in ... "the last one unfortunately died - it was a heroine overdose .. he binge-watched all of the Hunger Games, Wonderwoman and Force Awakens and had a heart attack".
mN: You need to tone down your snootiness level. Guest and McKean have both been professionals musicians. Guest is classically trained and studied at Interlaken School.
The general rule of rock bands is that the one who dies young is either the frontman or the drummer. Drummers maybe seem more anonymous and expendable cos they sit at the back of the stage in the dark, so you can make that into a running gag. Plus a frontman vs. lead guitarist clash of egos works better for the story in the original movie.
Now, we just use those fans to stop 'the sweats' instead of making our long hair look magnificent. the only hair that gets blown around by big fans now is my nose and ear hair...
@@presidentwoodrow I'm a jazz musician, so I actually liked Derek's "Jazz Odyssey - part 1 - 'Beginnings'" - - a timeless fusion of rock and jazz, maybe the other way around actually.

I just found out that Harry Shearer (one of the members of the group) has made voices for several characters of the Simpsons, what a coincidence. Well, so, Did Spinal tap emerged as a fictional band in a movie and then those actors, seeing the success, made concerts for their fans?
Your question will be answered more than fully by watching Marti DiBergi's documentary "This is Spinal Tap". On a scale of 1 to 10, you'll get an "11" answer if you do that.
These guys were actually better and more creative than 90% of the metal groups in the day. Rodney James Dio hated them.. they definitely tempered some Egos and pretense.

All jokes aside. That F*cking ROCKS! These guys are legit musicians.

We thought they knew how to rock in Shelbyville, but nobody rocks like (checks back of guitar) Springfield!

I've reached that amazing point in my life where I'm listening to them unironically
They so perfectly nail the look and sound of so many late 70’s/ early 80’s British heavy metal bands. Reminds me of early MTV
Not only that, they're better than most late 70’s/ early 80’s British heavy metal bands.
I don't know what's funnier the fact that they made a movie off of a joke or the possibility that they all learned how to play guitars for a joke.
