This is one of the saddest scenes in this film. There's Winslow, playing his music and baring his soul out on the stage, but is completely ignored and the audience that had been there for the Juicy Fruits just leave. And worse, his music serves as the siren song that will lead to his end. :(

@EBC-ENT What's my age got to do with my view on this being one of the saddest scenes in this film?

@EBC-ENTAh, okay. I'm 41 years old. I came across this film because I like Brian De Palma's work, and recently have been trying to check out his films that I either haven't seen or haven't seen in a while, and this one was one that people recommended the most. In addition to that, I'm a Daft Punk fan and had heard how this film influenced them, so it appealed to me even more. (In case you're wondering about my username, the 2001 is the year I graduated from high school, not my birth year).

@EBC-ENTCarlito's Way is one I haven't gotten to yet. I do believe I already have it on DVD. RL has kept me busy with a lot of things (work, family issues, a hurricane blowing through recently). But I'll get to it. I've also got plans to rewatch Raising Cain.

@EBC-ENTI agree, this film is epic. Honestly, I wish a lot more filmmakers would watch it. No one directs a film like how De Palma does. He's probably one of the rare few who took Hitchcock's cinematic language and has continued it, not using it in parody as most would.

I love how Winslow’s character is introduced - sadly his talent is overlooked by everyone, but he finds joy in his music, he is totally immersed in playing his piano and sings with his soul

I love this comment so much! Lol
I also headcanon Winslow as autistic but I figured that’s just from my natural inclination to find that every character I relate to is autism-coded.
Are there any reasons in particular you think he is?

@@randompersonwhoneedsalifeAmazing. My son has Asperger's ( high functioning autism). He has some mannerisms that remind me of Winslow Leach. The fact that what is going on inside his head is what's relevant. Astute observation, great comment.

And this was 1974, when Autism was still unheard of in the mainstream! This movie then could be seen as an allegory on how Autistics with talent are and can be exploited by Business! I should know- I’m an Autistic myself! Kodi Lee would be great singing this song!

Forget “Love Never Dies”. This is the sequel to “Le Fantôme de l’Opéra”! Or better yet, this is part of a musical trilogy. First being ALW’s “The Phantom of the Opera”, followed by 夜半歌声 (Song At Midnight), then finally, this!
