Hi Phil and thanks for the video. Opposite were the thrupeny bit chip shop used to be was a Texaco petrol station owned by a franchise called Stations Supreme. I worked there as a cashier in 1979. It was of course demolished. I don't know when and houses were built there. I was surprised you didn't mention it. You are right about the chippy. It was fantastic. I love your. Videos Phil. Look forward to the next one. Best wishes......... Garry.
Yes that fish & shop was iconic should of been classed as a listed building and never knocked down, and yes the pharmacy was a hair dresser for years, and the factory where the bungalows are used to church field spring's 👍
Sorry my mistake the spring company was called church vale springs not church field springs because church field springs are still in business I think 🤔👍
Wish you'd walk into the churchyard of All Saints church. My great grandmother is buried there and my great great grandfather was the the vicar there. Thanks Phil.
Thanks Susan, I did walk in there and entered the church in rehearsal for a video I will do on the church very soon If you could direct me to where your relative lies then I can visit the plot also simply let me know if you wish me to do this
@@awalkwithphil Hi Phil. Not sure where my Great-Grandmother is actually buried. The photo I have of the gravestone was standing propped up against the wall of the church. It must have been broken sometime. Her name is Pollie Louisa Salter died 1894. Thanks Sue.
And if you have a walk around the new housing estate where the Church field's school used to be they have spelt Kingston differently to the name at school, because it was spelt Kinston 🤔👍
Hi Phil enjoyed the walk by Church Vale area as you was on the corner of parsonage Street and you looked up towards church Vale and Hallam street on the right there was a petrol station were my mom worked and that sweet shop on the corner your right that was our favourite shop the street that run down by the side of the shop was were the school bus picked us up on the left was an access to church Fields school were the Technical Drawing and pottery and Art department was the bus turned right and ended up on Dagger Lane turned right and headed towards Stone Cross and the Yewtree and Phil I remember the Stables round the back of the Police Station and I've found the History of all saints way interesting all the best Paul
Thanks for this nostalgic video Phil, I loved the threpenny bit chip shop, when I was at churches, the food was to die for. I was a pupil at St Mary Magdalene too.
I went to churches school the threepenny chip shop was a dinner time life saver Later in life from the four in hand to same chippy was an habit we called the shop the tuck shop I played football with steve for churchfields and club called Cenlies
And along side the old church on all saints way used to be terraced houses, not much i don't know about West Bromwich, and my mother who is fortunately still alive at 84 and still going strong and lived in West Bromwich all her life so the isn't a lot she doesn't know, but just for her remembering can sometimes be a problem at times, bless her 🙏❤👍
I remember that the was a massive pile up on the Newton road once just near forge lane with many cars involved, but only got visual memories of it because I must of been to young to know what had happened just remember loads of cars all smashed up 👍
And that little boy's Mom and Dad used to always go away abroad over the bonfire night period every year, not sure about now because lost contact with them 👍
The Ringer Bells was virtually opposite the Red Lion once owned by Ray Hadley, and his brother Aubrey was the one who started off Hadley travel, but think his son's run it now,and not sure if Aubrey is still alive 👍
You don't see anybody about these days, no local high streets, everyone has cars, no one walks dogs, it's just go to work to pay high bills, eat sleep repeat😢
And no the Ringer Bells wasn't where you say it was, because it was to the left side of you virtually opposite the red lion and for some reason the pounds where people kept the horses was removed for some reason some years back now 👍
By churchfields high school used be a underpass it was filled in .used mow grass in there school for many years / council .was a swimming baths in school to.threpny chippy used go in there was a cracking chippy 😋 church vale road along there is entrance to Dartmouth golf course .me remembers police station opposite old church .all saints way one busy road gets gridlocked around tea time people going home from work etc takes forever along there due to traffic.opposite church when traffic stops traffic 🚦 lights to go down newton rd .traffic left hand side to go heath lane / Walsall road gets held back due to cars stopping go down newton rd .not enough space get passed left hand side causes tailbacks its murder there trying get home driving .

@awalkwithphil No problem Phil. Thanks for your reply. Best wishes to you.
4:11 that was an interesting looking building, quite cool actually. Looks like it was taken 1980s. 🙂

Thanks Paul for confirming the hairdressers and the factories name, brilliant info

And yes I remember the shop on the corner 👍
I was in Acton. The fish & chip shop was called the threpenny bit. Those were the days. Cuurry sauce & chips.
me and husband used to go in that chip shop around the late 80s to 90s when coming from Sandwell hospital always liked the food

I went to churchfields school phil. I was in Kingston block. Got some photos of the ring o bells what my dad gave me. Lovely memories phil. .
I was in marnham happy days 😊👍
And if you have a walk around the new housing estate where the Church field's school used to be they have spelt Kingston differently to the name at school, because it was spelt Kinston 🤔👍
And where the funeral directors are just opposite the Old church, just by the side is a gateway which used to lead down to some public toilets 👍

Thanks for this nostalgic video Phil, I loved the threpenny bit chip shop, when I was at churches, the food was to die for. I was a pupil at St Mary Magdalene too.
Also, Ebrington and Arlington road lead to Vicarage road not church lane. 👍🏻

Many a thing I could talk about you mentioned or walked by Phil, but unable to mention them all in a comment. I suppose we all have them. Good stuff.
Cheers MK
Great chip shop that was now gone sad😢
Some of my relatives from looking through my family tree recently lived on all saints street. Apart from the church itself I doubt they'd recognise it

Was churchwell gardens the site of the old people's home or was it churchill court?
The court I think, the OPH was next to that
