Americans and Canadians are driving up the prices everywhere …it’s not their fault essentially it’s the market capitalizing off of them.

First, I love both of you guys’ personal channels. But I much prefer when you’re together in a video, like this. As for why some businesses in the DR quote prices in American dollars, it might be because 99 (dollars) is a lot more palatable than 5700 (pesos), even though they’re essentially the same amount.

Jay made a good point it's the youth who will be the future of the Dominican Republic and many of them embrace American culture especially in clothing. You can't help but see Nikes and Jordans not just on men's feet but women also. It's become more common to see some Dominican women with natural hair styles also. One point I believe was missed is the Dominican diaspora in the United States, the majority of the Dominicans I have met here have relatives in the United States and communicate with them frequently which adds to the American influence. Speaking of the Dominican diaspora I read that remittances are about 7 billion a year and direct foreign investment is about 4 billion a year. So, between culture and money foreign influence is inevitable how much only the future knows for sure. Good topic for discussion thanks!

The DR follows the Capitalist structure of the U.S. If the U.S. is the macro economy, comparatively the DR would be the micro economy. While the DR utilizes mom-and-pop stores, eventually mega-corporations won't want to compete with them and localy they will legislate against them. It's my understaning that this is already happening in Punta Cana, La Romana and some areas of Puerto Plata. When you see home price, utilities and market rise at a consistent basis, it's a tell that inflation is taking hold and changes are in the horizon.

Oh the US Dollar is liked because the Bancas and People can make money with the peso to dollar fluctuations. Hold the dollar until the peso to dollar is higher pesos. Trade for more pesos then when it is less you just made pesos. But the Dominican peso I do not think is going to be replaced. The airport exchanges make a killing with their bank rates. That is my thought. DR does not have a stock market the SRLs are not publicly offered. But you can invest in DR by buying commercial paper. Which is actually a loan to a business to expand. If the deal is if successful you will get a return if the development is profitable. Solid well established companies are actually less of a risk than US stocks. Like Carribe Tours, Listamilk, Sosua Products, Brugal, Claro etc if they are selling the paper. Foreign manufacturers do very well in the free trade zones with the cheaper labor costs. One thing that did worry me was I now see the celebration of Halloween. I like the idea because it is one of my favorite holidays. But DR strong Christian religion made it seem very sacrilege and voodoo like. Also the DR takes things to a higher level. So the mischief caused some bad events in the Capital in 2023 the only area I saw Halloween displayed in the old city. Consider playing with a Vampire Chica or a Zombie Chica, or whatever costume, can you hear me on that? Pretty hot if you ask me. 👻

Will the DR become the "New America," short answer, absolutely not! However, it's a very "REAL" trendy thing right now to move outside the "WEST". There's so many places around the world 🌎 that are more attractive, affordable, and desirable destinations, I.E. Latin America, SE ASIA, Europe. All of them are experiencing these similar things to a certain degree. Some have more than others. Moreover, 99.99% of people will never leave their home land and everything they know to be in a foreign country where they don't know anything about the history, language, laws, customs, culture, etc. It's a good idea to be aware and keep track because things are always changing rapidly. New rules/laws can be implemented at any time without notice. I enjoy watching y'all content. Keep up the good work!👏

Yes indeed! It requires a tremendous amount of time in addition to careful planning, researching, courage, and effort to even try to attempt such a feat of this magnitude. It's one thing to visit a foreign country for a couple of weeks or a month, but it's totally different when discussing living there permanently. I myself am looking to relocate in the near future out of the States. I'm working on transitioning into a new career in IT so that it can be possible for me to work remotely abroad. I'm evaluating things/places in the aforementioned previous post. DR is definitely on my list due to its close proximity to the US. No matter where you decide to go, everywhere has its pros and cons. Having said this, they all are much better options.🫡😎 Unfortunately, the "New American Dream" is to leave the US.😓

Excellent video and very good information and insightful perspective. I personally believe the DR like all other nations in the US sphere of influence already has been becoming the US almost since its inception. The US has been heavily involved in the DR with its 2 prior occupations to ensure the country is only ruled by leaders favourable to its position and if they ever was to elect non US favoured leaders. Watch how quickly they would occupy again. Basically with the only exception being Cuba. The western Powers (England & US) control all of the Caribbean nations through soft Power (money) but will use hard Power (military) if needed. Look at the countries they US has invaded, or intervened in militarily : Panama, Grenada, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras etc. This all sends a message to all of its neighbours and all of these countries leaders always look to the US for money and assistance. Most of these countries are run and controlled by a small group of leaders who are almost universally US educated. Look at where the children of Abinader and his cabinet attend, all US schools. Whole they maintain some of their Dominican culture. They absorb just as much if not more of the American culture. Look at all the high end parts of the country and you will see these spaces adorned with high end US / European influences as thats the language of the wealthy and well heeled and they are the people who run things. So at the end of the day the rich and powerful wants the DR to become more like the US everyday because it makes them "richer" same as the rich in the US and they don't care about culture, only making money. I do think a lot of the DR culture is very outdated and backwards especially as it comes to the treatment of women. The US was the same way but we had to evolve to make things better and as we did it raised the level for the whole country. Yes I agree things are getting more expensive and it will take the voices of the native Dominicans to demand their government provide better pay, healthcare and education to meet a new norm if they expect to continue to grow as a country. Lastly yes they country has a ton of foreign investment and as your husband says. These companies invest their money not just for tax breaks but for "control". This means that yes large parts of the country will change to meet the demands of the countries biggest investors (foreign multi-national companies). Be thankful its mostly western European and US investors. If China takes and interest and sink billions in the country, all of yall ass will be leaning "Chinese" lol Overall great video , I really enjoyed it, keep up the great work

However, both Dominicans and Americans want to prosper but keep their identity and have the freedom of experiencing cultural exchanges just like one would do it with Italy, Spain, Greece, England, Germany, Belgium, Holland, and France. The bottom line is to have the ability to trade ideas and commerce. But the main idea is to be wanted and necessary.

Agriculture, appliances and living space are rising in cost, but the cost of living is much better than the US and will never become 'the new America' though there are plenty of influences. Most everyone in DR has relatives in the states .. Jersey, New York, Chicago, and they send clothes, food and money. DR has even copied 'Black Friday and Cyber Monday' sales gimmicks. I hope my island never becomes America. At this point there is nothing positive for the whole American system of life. The “good parts” you mention of business and capitalism is the thing that makes injustices where some people are on the bottom working for minimal salary and other becoming more and more rich. But wait a minute, Are we going to say most of the people “migrating” to DE are white privileged Northamericans or Europeans? That’s an important part. I am also remigrating next year after 22 years abroad and I feel am also privilege for being back so many Dominican people have to leave because they can’t make a month. We have to support and protect the island so it doesnt become ONLY for some privilege that can buy and invest in dollars. Dominicans should be able to choose if they want to stay or leave to The US And not because they can’t afford housing. Look at Puerto Rico!

You know what. A country can still develop and maintain its moral values, principles and maintain their cultural identity. This however depends on the leadership in the country who live by examples. I am not a fan of spending $ in the DR. I don’t spend pesos in the US so why should I spend $ in the DR. Don’t worry James y Norberis this trend can not sustain itself. If thing’s keep getting out of the average Dominican reach , the government will have a very very serious problem on their hands. My opinion is a lot of people moving to the DR from the States is base on ; I can make money by investing,, emotions; and what they see on RUclips. They come, they get delusional and move out. Base on these three things, it artificially move up the price of goods y services, everyone including Dominicans trying to capitalize on this demand. I believe it will level back out eventually. On the cultural side a lot also depends on the Dominican parents y family. The Dominican Republic is a very beautiful place, but it’s not for everyone. I really hope it don’t change.

No, I think some ideas and techniques may have been adopted, it is clear DR has its own rich culture and history. It will always be its own place. Example the DR is between Cuba which was once only a soviet satellite and PR which is now a US satellite. But the DR in-between has managed to remain its own sovereign nation besides the situation in Haiti. Yes there was the US intervention in the civil war in April of 1965. But I am certain the US left completely after stability was established and the DR proceeded to develop from then on autonomously. No Dominicans are stubborn, and will retain their identity. Another example, how they install door hinges and electric outlets. Disregarding the benefits of the US and other countries techniques. The reply it is the way WE, Dominicans do it, no debate. There you have it! No it will not be the new America.
Question? Do you think that US Intervention in 1965 Operation "Power Pack" was performed because of 1. The civil war going on destabilized the government and in order to establish free elections without communist hostile interference coupled with the loss of lives caused the US to intervein. Or 2. The operation was performed to cover up the discovery by Juan Bosh of a CIA led training operation in Barahona designed to overthrow Papa Doc Duvalier in Haiti? or 3. Other, your input here.

Change is good for everyone. You have to leave some people the same way you found them. The US Dollar is strong because of the strong US military (Nuclear Weapons, Aircraft Carriers, Fighter jets, Tanks, Submarines, US troops deployed around the globe). Some places are expensive in the DR. However, the DR will never be as expensive as the USA.

@@joantonio6331 I think they consider shower instead of bathtub to save some space. I live here in Florida, my two bathrooms had showers when I bought the house and I renovated them and I kept the showers too. My neighbors have showers as well. All the bathrooms that people are renovating here in South Florida I see they all use showers and are getting rid of the bathtub.
