Acrylic Pour Through a Colander

  • Someone suggested I try an acrylic pour through a colander, so I did! It was a fun and informative experiment, though there are a lot of things I would change next time (such as thinning the paint a bit, less blue, and putting a canvas underneath). For those of you worried that I'm "wasting paint," don't worry, I make jewelry and other products out of my paint skins from the bottom of my bin!
    Materials used:
    Artist's Loft flow acrylics (30%)
    Floetrol (50%)
    water (20%)

What would be neat: 5 canvases. 2 next to each other, 2 under those to make 4 on base. Then center the 5th one in center. Pour on the center....the overflow will hit the other 4. Then you could frame them that way....the white space in the corner could be part of the "series". That just popped in my head.... don't know if it will actually work. Would be neat tho!

Lovely. Thank you for mentioning that you can put another canvas underneath to use up the poured off paint. Some you tubers are saying the waste doesn't matter... it's only paint... but it really does. So much is ruined and exhausted because we want to be pleased by beauty as a human race. It really shouldn't be like this so thanks for taking responsibility for that and giving a solution :)

A tip for you when you're running low on paints (if you didn't already know!)
*If you plan on using a color but nothing comes out of the bottle, cut the top off and use a rubber spoon/spatula to scrape the rest out! Or pour it into condiment cups and use when you need a bit of color! 😊💖

heavensacrifice , no need to be rude. Maybe for you "Art" is not the same as for me. Art is (in my Oppinion) something you can do in different ways to show different results. Here the result is a colored canvas called "picture or painting" and I personally like it. Pictures or Paintings are "Art". And the way to reach that result was "pouring color through a colander". So... you don't like it, ok. But please don't tell me, what "Art" has to be or not to be. Thank you.
      Greetings
      Chris

I seriously can't take it either. I can only watch these once in a while. Just too much waste. I wish I was cooler about it

@Patti Billerbeck DITTO! The only way I would be okay with it was if I needed to use up old paint.

Gross waste would not be acceptable but that is not what is going on here.

@@charlottelovell8184 absolutely great idea... We have a building at our local dump where you can pick up paints and different kinds of various home chemical items for free. Great for people just beginning. 👍👍

What happens if you incorporate clear or a shine coat along with the colors?

I thought it was a great looking piece of art! I love stuff like this! I saw a lady bug & it was blue. She was hovering over the Galaxy. The yellow was perfect amount on the lady bug. The way the colors swirled down the sides of the canvas looked like 3D dimension of the Galaxy going on & on. This was actually a Brilliant idea! I can see something like this but on a much larger canvas, on a solid light color painted wall. Thanks for sharing.

I really like that, it reminds me of a "Lion Fish" in the sea.

I want to subscribe! I was an illustrator and now I am losing my vision so I can no longer do the fine pen and ink work I used to. This is amazing and Suits my craving for color perfectly! Thank you for sharing. Keep doing what you're doing and don't stop. You will be discovered!

I agree thinner paint might move better next time. That flower you got this time is pretty awesome. It makes me wonder about different colander hole patterns and the designs they might make.
    Great video as always :)

Mixed Media Girl your local thrift store will be a great place to find different & interesting things to pour through. Where I work, plastic items like colanders are about $.89 up to $2.89 for metal ones. This was a neat experiment.

Before you started running it off the canvas, I saw the image of a tiger fish in the middle. Very cool!
