Acrylic Pour Through a Colander

- Someone suggested I try an acrylic pour through a colander, so I did! It was a fun and informative experiment, though there are a lot of things I would change next time (such as thinning the paint a bit, less blue, and putting a canvas underneath). For those of you worried that I'm "wasting paint," don't worry, I make jewelry and other products out of my paint skins from the bottom of my bin!
Materials used:
Artist's Loft flow acrylics (30%)
Floetrol (50%)
water (20%)

Beautiful very different and I love the end result. What I don`t understand is the 131 thumbs down? Why? You share your art so freely and no one is forced to look at it....200 thumbs up from me....♥
+annemarie ridderhof thank you so much! I know, I don't get it either, I know you get it on your videos as well, though like you said we're simply creating and sharing. Though I don't understand it, some people are really just jerks and the only thing that makes them happy is trying to put others down. Your videos are awesome and I really appreciate you :)
It’s so easy for people to be hateful and obnoxious on RUclips comments 😢 i have a lifestyle channel where i share my family and some of the comments i get there are downright hateful!
+Amber Canaan yeah, my policy with nasty comments is delete and block :)
Mixed Media Girl yep mine too!
Amber Canaan I just subscribed to your channel :)
It reminds me of something I’d find in the ocean. It’s really pretty

Your pours are so trippy, I love it!! It's like a comet shooting through space, but drawn in the 70's, y'know?
Scotty Fang It also reminded me a comet flying through space at extra-accelerated speeds, burning the atmosphere around it!
I was a teenager in the ‘70’s. Amen on the trippy!
Beautiful work, very creative! Thank you for sharing your technique it has been an eye opening experience!!
Very Epic what Beautiful experience you created thanks for your time and sharing your mind

This colander pour turned out Perfect! I love this piece.
Thank you! It's hanging on my wall at home :)
First time I’ve seen this one! Helping it get to 7M!
Woah, what a cool result! I see everything from a flower, a “sad man in the moon”, a strange other planet, that dolphin is amazing... Just wow!
I love the central face effect when the colonder was lifted. The end effect is very Sci- fi!
Dawn Mason that's what I was thinking

I gasped when you took the strainer off! It's beautiful!!
There is nothing I don't love about this! Absolutely fantastic 👏
A screaming flower....VERY cool!!! Love your willingness to experiment!!
+Shelly Linn thank you!
Watching this, I admit I was skeptical at first. Didnt think it would work the way it did. But as you got closer to being out of paint I was getting excited to see the results. I was really amazed and now I want/need to try this.
Oh wow, amazing! That center section when stretched out was exceptional!
+Deby at Acrylic Pouring thanks Deby! I love your channel too :)
First visit to your channel and - WOW! Why am I thinking:
"fantasy lionfish"?
Maybe some shimmery highlights? Just gorgeous!

This is the first one of these I've actually liked 😍
Omg it looks like a flower with a paw print coming through the middle. I love it I loveee it!!!
A surprise in every painting. I love it
This seems like a good way to use up odds and ends of paints
+Ginger Kubicz yes definitely
This is the video I watched that turned me on to you and this pour painting thing. I'll gladly watch it again and share it again!
What would be neat: 5 canvases. 2 next to each other, 2 under those to make 4 on base. Then center the 5th one in center. Pour on the center....the overflow will hit the other 4. Then you could frame them that way....the white space in the corner could be part of the "series". That just popped in my head.... don't know if it will actually work. Would be neat tho!
+peepla7 interesting idea! I'll see if I can make it happen :)
Your on the right track art can be anything, put (5) canvasses on top of (1)board that keeps all 5()canvasses together, all put the colander above the (5) canvasses pour the acrylic paint through, let it dry then separate all (5) canvasses (2) canvasses up top (2) canvasses below the other (2) and (1) canvass in the middle
peepla7 that sounds like a really awesome idea to try!
peepla7 Good idea peepla!

Stunning! I work in watercolors, but I've been thinking about starting with some acrylic. And this I think just hit me over the edge and I'm going to the art supply store! What a great idea! ♥️
I know this is an older video but I watched it anyway because it came up on my watch list. This turned out really awesome, it's a beautiful abstract daisy 🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼
Loved this technique; thanks for sharing
I love this. It's giving me an ocean vibe.
+D. Thompson thanks!

I am definitely going to try it out.
Yes! First thought after stretch, it's a gorgeous fish!!
It looks like a comet bursting through the atmosphere of some far away planet! Amazing!

That is one of the coolest things I've seen in a long time and so simple
Turned out so dreamy
Makes me want to try it. It would be something new of what I normally paint. Thank you for the video
I am amazed by your creativity. I absolutely love it. You leave me speechless. Thank you for sharing it.
My mouth literally fell open at the result! I can't wait to do this.
Fun project with a great result! It would look great in a black frame or reproduced for a t-shirt transfer or album cover! Good job!
If you look on the bottom right corner you can see a dolphin 😉🐬
Allie Kozlowski I see it!
holy shit clear as day. thats incredible
Woahhhhhhhh
Me: Oh, come on don't talk stupi-.....Holy shit.
Allie Kozlowski where????
This technique certainly gives the illusion of depth in the initial circle area. Interesting...
Ohhh I love that process...the overall effect is really interesting..I could look at it for ages. Definitely having a go at this. Thankyou for sharing.
I normally hate abstract art because a lot of people try to make some meaning up behind it but this was dope!
I'm getting a real 90's album cover vibe from this. I like it!
+nkotb 82 thanks!
nkotb 82 more 70’s
Whoa, It looks kind of like the inside of a gem or something! So cool! It’s interesting that you would use more paint next time. I probably would not have used that much paint at all. I bet you could get some wild results with this technique. Thank you for sharing!
Very pretty. Looks like a fish under water to me..an exotic looking fish! i love it!
Lovely. Thank you for mentioning that you can put another canvas underneath to use up the poured off paint. Some you tubers are saying the waste doesn't matter... it's only paint... but it really does. So much is ruined and exhausted because we want to be pleased by beauty as a human race. It really shouldn't be like this so thanks for taking responsibility for that and giving a solution :)
You're a star .
I loved this! It looks like an underwater sea scene.
I’ve been looking for inspiration as I’m feeling my muse has left me .
Thank you for helping me find it again!
Beautifully done! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😍
Why not spin it rather than tilt it ?
Ok before she tilted it who saw the skull in the middle
I did
Oh my word, yes, and quite creepy at first! Calmed down with the tilt . Very cool
Yep! I saw it too.
How many went back to see it? Lol
It looked like an old Native American skull with a warrior head dress
I really like this and I really like fun projects like this where it's simple and no drawing involved just fun and new
This turned out way better than I expected, tbh lol.
Its cool, though. Thanks for sharing.
WOW!!! It is really amazing. I love it. Thanks for explain how to make it.
This looks like some sort of fantasy alien space galixy. It's wonderful
+Felicity Webb thank you!
So cool, I’m going to try it!
Wow it looks like the palm jumaira from the sky 😍
It looks like an under-the-sea scene with an interesting marine life!!! I like it alot!!!
Is your work for sale? This one in particular? I have a nautical-themed guest room it would go great in!! The room is mostly blue & White!!! TY.
My work us for sale but unfortunately not this piece. Check out my store here www.etsy.com/shop/MixedMediaGirlEtsy

It's awesome it's like a box of chocolates, you never know what you'll get. Beautiful.
I love the colander pour. It turned out beautifully!!
Colander pour is really cool
This is GORGEOUS!
Just watched for the first time. Just about to 10k then and now over 200k!!! Nicely done!!
This is seriously amasing. And the painting looks great.
Wow that’s so beautiful and very inspiring!!!! I’d buy that!!
Thank you!
A tip for you when you're running low on paints (if you didn't already know!)
*If you plan on using a color but nothing comes out of the bottle, cut the top off and use a rubber spoon/spatula to scrape the rest out! Or pour it into condiment cups and use when you need a bit of color! 😊💖
When I saw the result.. It was like Wow.
art is art no right way no wrong way i love it!!!
The center reminds me of a daisy with a sad face.
Victoria R you have depression I can tell
MR. MooseTache may I ask how you determined that?
There was a daisy with a sad face, I had my sister look too! It reminds me of an Alice in Wonderland or Nightmare before Christmas.
I think it looks like a paw print
You remind me of a daisy with a sad face.
There's a dolphin in the bottom right corner
jisenya johnson I saw it also
jisenya johnson wow that's awesome!
Oh my gosh there is
Wow now that I see it it looks AMAZING
That’s so cool
I think that's beautiful!! Thank you for taking the time to show this. There are some people that I am convinced simply have coffe, tea or a shot and simply v oast theough hitting the dislike button. Good grief. I think it's like a constellation.
Kim Quinn I agree!
You always know what you're doing baby girl no matter what it is it turned out awesome every time
Loving the face in the center...Guess who's buying a couple of used colanders tomorrow? Heck, I'm going to the $ tree and get them NEW! And a few cooling racks.
Thank you for this!
looks like a fractal flower very beautiful ty for sharing
I love her voice omg
Very pretty!! Love the pattern
Wow - that is soo cool I have a colander that is from a microwave dinner with the colander with sauce on the bottom - tiny little holes - going to try that.
Good morning :-) This is what I love about Art. Just use your tools, be creative and don't have fear to use crazy stuff :-) Sometimes it turns out pretty amazing, sometimes not, but it is always a good thing to be happy and creative. :-) And I like this flowery pattern.
Happy greetings
Chris
+Christian Kübler yeah I'm definitely going to have to experiment more with this!

heavensacrifice , no need to be rude. Maybe for you "Art" is not the same as for me. Art is (in my Oppinion) something you can do in different ways to show different results. Here the result is a colored canvas called "picture or painting" and I personally like it. Pictures or Paintings are "Art". And the way to reach that result was "pouring color through a colander". So... you don't like it, ok. But please don't tell me, what "Art" has to be or not to be. Thank you.
Greetings
Chris
you lost a lot of really cool original design here
I ❤️it the painting reminds me of being under the sea ❤️❤️👍😘
Wow! That was spectacular! I totally love itttttttt! 😍
Very, very interesting. I was able to de-stress watching this develop🙃TFS!
Omggggg I love how this looks. Absolutely beautiful
Thanks!

Wow! What a very creative way to make paintings. I love the way it came out. Great job.
this turned out so cool! it kinda reminds me of an awesomely weird looking jellyfish hehe💙 i’d love to try this out one day :)
This was super cool!! beautiful result! Thank you for sharing!! :) love your channel!!
Looks fabulous. Looks like an underwater reef.
That pattern in the middle looks like an eldritch version of Flowey the Flower. So cool **
Really cool video and painting! I wonder what would happen if you use a sieve instead, because the holes will be smaller and may take longer for paint to drop through but it would spread more as you add paint on top it. Might look cool 🤔
What would have happened if she vibrated the metal grid sporadically?
A grater (one of those flat ones you tilt to grate cheese or carrots; some have lots of different size holes)...wonder what effects that would give?
I know..lot of paint. As you continued to pour more and more paint, I was thinking geez that's a lot of paint🤔lol
But, I really like the final😎😎😎
I love how the painting turned out with you tilting it I thought it looks better lol awesome video
The ammount of paint that gets wasted in acrylic pours legit gives me anxiety
the result is pretty good though xD
I seriously can't take it either. I can only watch these once in a while. Just too much waste. I wish I was cooler about it
@Patti Billerbeck DITTO! The only way I would be okay with it was if I needed to use up old paint.
Yeah lol
Gross waste would not be acceptable but that is not what is going on here.
@@charlottelovell8184 absolutely great idea... We have a building at our local dump where you can pick up paints and different kinds of various home chemical items for free. Great for people just beginning. 👍👍
What happens if you incorporate clear or a shine coat along with the colors?
Oh this is super wild
I thought it was a great looking piece of art! I love stuff like this! I saw a lady bug & it was blue. She was hovering over the Galaxy. The yellow was perfect amount on the lady bug. The way the colors swirled down the sides of the canvas looked like 3D dimension of the Galaxy going on & on. This was actually a Brilliant idea! I can see something like this but on a much larger canvas, on a solid light color painted wall. Thanks for sharing.
I really like that, it reminds me of a "Lion Fish" in the sea.
I want to subscribe! I was an illustrator and now I am losing my vision so I can no longer do the fine pen and ink work I used to. This is amazing and Suits my craving for color perfectly! Thank you for sharing. Keep doing what you're doing and don't stop. You will be discovered!
+Adrian McKee awww thanks!
Oh Wow, thank you for this I have been wondering what a pour through a colander would end up looking like for ages.Well done it turned of fab
+indiandy03 thanks!
+jade silva i agree!
Whoa this result is AMAZING! So interesting. I love it 🥰
I enjoy how it looks tilted! makes it look cartoon/graffiti esque. like an awesome cartoon character world
It looks like a flower with a paw print in the middle

Really nice!

I agree thinner paint might move better next time. That flower you got this time is pretty awesome. It makes me wonder about different colander hole patterns and the designs they might make.
Great video as always :)
+Jessica Cruz Rivera yrah, that's one of the reasons I bought this one, it has a really cool pattern :)

Mixed Media Girl your local thrift store will be a great place to find different & interesting things to pour through. Where I work, plastic items like colanders are about $.89 up to $2.89 for metal ones. This was a neat experiment.
Before you started running it off the canvas, I saw the image of a tiger fish in the middle. Very cool!
Sooooo psychedelic 😍 I must try this
I'm watching this all the way from new zealand, i think its pretty cool 👍
I like it.
Same...I want to run out and buy paint now
Hay me too. Top of south. 😉
