Usually places with lots of English speaking tourists tend to teach English in their schools. I’m not sure if it’s like that in Korea, but in a lot of other places it’s a common curriculum. Unfortunately here in America, even though most schools require a high school foreign language class to graduate, I believe it’s only a few semesters worth that’s required and it’s very basic stuff so you end up not learning much and most people just end up forgetting whatever they’ve learned after they finish the minimum requirement to graduate /:
