This has really opened my eyes to having a home salon. I just finished cosmetology school, this week (YAY!!) and now prepping for my state board exam!! But, im definitely subscribing, right now!!
Thank you Tevin and congratulations on finishing Cosmetology school!! Blessings to you on your exam!! Just breathe and do what you already know to do! This is the best industry! You will love it!
This video is amazing and true. Also sometimes working at home allows people to have access to how you live and this makes some people jealous and they start acting crazy.
Your video is & inspiration. I've been braiding hair since my teen years I decided to go to cosmetology school at 37 to fulfill a longtime passion.. I recently been researching having a home based salon.. thanks for sharing
That's awesome!!! You are inspiring me just by what you wrote! I wish you nothing but blessings as you step into this journey. When it's a passion, you excel every time. Please keep me posted and I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
This is a VERY HELPFUL VIDEO! Thank you , I have been a stylist for 38 yrs and hope too retire in about 6-10 yrs if It’s God will ! My husband wants me too she shed a salon in back for my later work days . I never wanted too come home until the Corona pandemic hit us , I’m so through with booth rental ... just wanted too say great video and many, many, blessings
Thank you Sharon! You should totally do it. I completely understand especially now, I’m grateful for my home space for sure. Good luck to you and stay healthy!
I also work at home braiding hair but i often think of venturing out because of the way people view at home beauticians. This has calmed some of my fears
Yasss!! All praises to U! I too stepped out on Faith & have done the same thing! it is truly amazing to have. Everything u spoke about I've too to experience lol, but I wouldn't change a thing...those boundaries MUST Be On Point! Stay safe, focused, & Blessed!
This was amazing. You gave amazing tips and reality. I would really like to stay at home full time doing hair because I love the piece of mind especially with young kids. Thank you so much.
I missed the comradery as well as a mobile hair stylist but I looove keeping all of my money instead of overhead expenses. The other only thing I missed about working in the salon is the stylists doing each other's hair for free whenever we had the time or on a slow day to keep ourselves looking well groomed.
I'm jumping soon! Thank you for making it a little bit more plain and clearer. I have a hectic schedule between my kids and working in a chain salon. After talking with a friend who has a makeup/hair studio in her home, I caught the bug! Watching this made me feel even more affirmed!
The way you are set up, it’s good to work at home! As of today I have issues bringing clients home. A discussion a client was leading as my husband walked past her.
I stop the video to tell you that I absolutely love your videos I love the professionalism and I feel so inspired and motivated and your home is beautiful and your beauty salon... it's just really wonderful and I just want to say thank you for sharing so much because it makes me feel that if God can do it for you he can do it for me I also wanted to ask you a question I want to dye my hair black and I bought Bigen it's permanent but last year I put rinses in my hair and the back of my hair still has some of the color from last year, I thought by now it would be gone, someone just told me I would have to bleach that part. Is this true and thank you so much!!!😊
Yes ma’am! Hopefully! I’ve been a stay at home mom for a while now because my son needs extra care as well and I’m still having quite a few ppl come to me to do their hair, so I’m hoping to transform my dining room into a one chair space to do my work as it has a separate entrance and we don’t really use it anyway! Then I can provide a more professional experience and bring in new clientele as well! I’m still trying to figure out all of the rules and regulations for my state and I’m watching as many videos as I can for ideas and inspiration! I miss being in a salon setting so much!
I'm glad you found this helpful. It's hard when you have to adjust but our families are first always so kudos to you. I totally understand missing being in the salon space, but I think you'll find the intimacy of your new space rewarding too. Be sure to check local regs to protect yourself. What state are you in?
thanks for sharing! I am a licensed cosmetologist in California. I just found out you can have a home based salon in California, but need all city permits and state board will inspect, I just need to add a sink with hot/cold water to the working area, saving money because im sure its going to be expensive. But I'm really looking forward to those plans😁
I'm glad they allow it! Hopefully, it's not too bad! Please keep me posted! I would love to see it when it's finished. I'm low-key obsessed with home salons. Good luck to you.
This is inspiring, My son has medical issues as well and it forced me to me to leave the salon. I have been considering a home base salon for the past few years:)
I completely understand! The salon allows me to keep doing what I love and care for my son who is doing so much better now. I'm so glad I did it. Good luck to you and your son and please keep me posted.
Not, yet but that is my goal while I am still in nail school. I am a homeschooling mama of three teens and after my divorce I decided to seek out something I could do from home and would enjoy. I already enjoy painting and serving others so it seemed a perfect fit. My daughter is super ecited and we are looking forward to it :) I am super ecited about the money/time saving aspects and I really appreciated you making this video and all the helpfull info you included.
Oh fun! This will be perfect for you then. Definitely consider a good ventilation system when you get started. Good luck to you and please keep me posted!
Hey Shanae. Plumbing was apart of the total cost of the remodel, so I don't really know. I recently updated my area and that installation was under a couple hundred dollars. However, there was some preexisting plumbing from before. A few factors considered in the cost was the location of the shampoo bowl, proximity to water source, type of flooring if plumbing comes from under the home, and extra construction related to installation, etc. I would get multiple quotes, inquire how long the installation will take, and make sure they are licensed and bonded.
Would you recommend being in a salon first with and then starting a residential salon for the “experience” ??? Also if there are no chemicals being used is a cosmetology license necessary ?
Thank you for your questions. I definitely would recommend being in a salon first. It's not required or mandatory, but you can learn so much from being in a salon environment. I don't think I would have been as successful without prior salon experience. A cosmetology license is required in most states. You definitely want to check your state and local laws so you know what's required and to keep yourself protected. I wish you the best!
It may be strange for some, but having photos/video of your salon showing them it's a still a professional space is helpful. I've never had anyone reference it as a negative after they've seen it. It's not for everyone, but if your work is quality and your space is professional, people usually are very supportive and even brag on it!
This video was very helpful, I’ve been afraid to do hair for years and I took cosmetology in high school (12 years ago). Everything has changed but my hours remain, but I was told I need to retake the entire cosmetology class over to get familiar with the new laws of my state. I would love a home salon, I’m currently looking for a shed that can be converted into a beauty salon
I'm glad you're going to go for it. Don't be afraid, just rely on your training and build your confidence through experience. Compare yourself only to you! A shed conversion sound great, and that was actually my first choice. I've seen some beautiful spaces created in sheds. Please share when you do.
Blessings and patience to you Erica. It can be intense with one, so I can't imagine too. I do believe we are given just what we need. I'm sure you are a phenomenal mother. Keep pushing!
Thank you so much for this video girl you know I got to subscribe I have a salon but I have learned so much and ears are open to learn more from you by the way check out my channel much love to you

Hey Tarra! I know just what you mean, but as long as you give your clients a nice, clean space to come, they won't care. Good luck to you!

I love it. You just have to plan it out as thoroughly as possible. Where are you located?

Hello I loved you video, very encouraging. How much did your plumbing cost to get your shampoo bowl installed?

Do it!!! It's so freeing!
You go girl!!! 😻
Thank you! I love it!
I just moved from studio to home salon. Do clients that you do not know not want to book sometimes because it’s out your home

I need to do this, my mortgage is so high it's sad
You definitely should. I don't regret it and the money I saved put a smile on my face!
This is Nikki anderson. My mother does my hair
Hi Nikki! Kudos to your mom. I wish my mom still did mine. Her braiding skills remain unmatched!
