However, in this case it’s an automatic call. Once cps comes into picture depending on seriousness of abuse they have to contact law enforcement. They will sometimes place child on protective custody until they find a suitable family member. The perp will be arrested on spot or warrant placed for arrest.

I’m a former cps social worker and school social worker. By law we have to report abuse or neglect. There is a code on what constitutes abuse and neglect. Failure to do so can result in loss of employment and charges filed. It is serious. Many school staff are fearful and will call cps/police over the slightest things. However, in this case it’s an automatic call.
Once cps comes into picture depending on seriousness of abuse they have to contact law enforcement. They will sometimes place child on protective custody until they find a suitable family member. The perp will be arrested on spot or warrant placed for arrest.
