Speaking from experience with this particular stylist, she is definitely in it for the money. I went to her in July of last year after combing out my locs. After paying this lady $300 for a wash and go I left the salon with a shaped up fro. I ended up having to do my hair myself at home after being in her salon for 5 plus hours. Then when she saw that my hair wasn’t curling like she wanted she tried to upsale me with another service which was an additional $150. Literally the worst salon experience of my life!

I'm just literally floored on why anybody, would pay almost $300 for an ONLINE COURSE when she did not even touch your hair?? That is just crazy! Then if you are crazy enough to go to her that will be another $300 nope NOT!!!! Yes I agree this is for those that may be and I hate to use the term, but desperate enough to buy her BS and think something is wrong with their hair when all you have to do is wash condition and set & style. Just WOW!!!

She is a great example of the predatory targeting that is happening to the natural hair community. That deep sigh was her mask coming off.
She did the math to get every dime out of everyone searching and desiring to learn how to do their hair.

The sigh at the end of the stream tells it all , and , callously calculating her potential revenue as if to say that her clients aren't "clients" at all........... as if to say that they represent nothing but dollas$$ and cents to her. For me, it's not what she said at the end, but it's what she "didn't " say that exposes her true intentions. Not once did she fix her lips to say how much that she "values" her clients. ✌🏾

Hairstylists should protect their business and always aim to be sustainable with their prices and unapologetically know their worth with how they charge, esp when they have put in the work and been integral throughout the process.
Unfortunately these BGC stylists and their affiliates have and are creating a mess in this space. They are charging excessive amounts for prototypes and trying to be on an equal playing field with stylists who have integrity. They've witnessed all the damage this mode of teaching has done and turned a blind-eye to it, encouraged stone-walling and even tried to go down the route of 'black women are difficult' whilst still demanding our money. Smh.

Wash n Go is the simplest of all hairstyles to do if one take time to understand one's hair and it's characteristics in conjunction with the products, environmental factors, texture and density.

Money makes the world go around & I do believe people should be fairly compensated, especially if they offer more value/quality comparable to what others are offering. HOWEVER, just like there are genuine people, there are disingenuous as well. There are people that pander to certain audiences that are vulnerable & take advantage of that vulnerability by offering products & services meant to not improve them as much as it is to line their pockets. People want to make money in the laziest way possible & this seems to be the lay of the land stretching across multiple industries now.

Whew. If people could only be authentic these days and have integrity. There’s nothing wrong with making money but all money isn’t good money. When your intentions are to exploit, overly capitalize, manipulate, deceive or any other low vibrational frequency/energy, you truly wont find peace/contentment/success. I actually watched a large portion of the live with this particular stylist and she doesn’t seem knowledgeable enough to be performing or charging these amounts for “curl experiences”. Now, I did hear her say on the live that she invests in continuing education but as a consumer, the math ain’t mathing. Her content doesn’t reflect that of a person who is knowledgeable of tight curl maintenance, styling and care. Too many people want to be “curl experts/specialist” but only cut and style hair one way. To me, you can’t just do wash and gos on specific textures and label yourself a curl expert/specialist. That’s like me saying that I’m a pants seamstress specialist but only have mastered one style of pants.

I went to her a many years ago and got crochet box braids. She did a fantastic job on the style. Everyone complimented me on the style and thought they were actual box braids because they were done so well. So I won't discredit her braiding abilities.
However, at the time I had been out of the hair game for a while (I was around during the days of nappturality) and was not a product junky. She tried to sell me some products and set me up with a hair regimen. She tried to convince me to buy some products from her because she "gets them shipped from Europe and they are costly." I declined because it felt to gimmicky. Months later I saw the products in the store and knew she was a scammer.. the products were Design Essentials. I never went back to her again and told my friend that she should stop going to too since she referred me to her. It's discouraging to have a stylist try to rip you off.
On a side note, I think we should always put our best foot forward. Stylist don't need to be overdressed, but the lowest of efforts from all humans would be nice, especially if they are providing a beauty-related service. She had green hair at the time (nothing wrong with that) and it was completely undone and all over the place. She looked a complete hot mess. Never trust a stylist whose hair looks dry and damaged and that doesn't carry themselves with some level of respect. Can't imagine getting a service form someone link that long-term.
She completed turned me off of natural stylist for a while. Shame. I didn't know she was "internet famous" until recently.

I see a lot of hairstylists operating in "traditional" online marketing space with things like courses and such. I have worked in this space since 1997... have seen a lot... lot of new things, lot of things coming and going. I honestly think the big sigh was probably just because doing this type of live "webinar" can be a LOT... nerve wracking, managing the behind the scenes, creating content for a course, etc. It's a LOT. And she may have just been happy it was done and went well (I'm assuming it did bc I didn't see it). That's totally normal. Also in online marketing, the way she talked about the money is also normal. People set goals for how many seats they want to fill. She could very well just be excited about reaching her goal *and* still cares about her clients. Both can be true. Now... don't come for me internet folks (well it don't matter Lol). I usually don't comment on ANYthing bc the internet is wild. But in this case, I just have a different perspective based on online business experience, knowing who her coach is/was (a very good one)... it's just how it's done. Now all that being said... I don't like many aspects of traditional online marketing so I can see why hearing her may make some ppl feel some type of way. But this is such a small excerpt from what is sure to have been a way bigger, exciting, and exhausting "production" for her. Launching courses is WORK. A LOT of work. And we all know making money isn't bad... or else none of us would put up with what we do to work for it. Lol.

I'm not surprised. I love my daughter's hair braider. She charges reasonable fees for her work and she talks me through any and everything I have a question about without the additional fees. I talked to her about natural stylist charging $300+ to give curl definition to natural hair. My fro is about .25 inches long and I explained to her how I wanted to have curl definition but I could not bring myself to pay the fee because I did not understand what I would be paying for. I did not pay that much when I was getting my hair chemically treated!!! She told me to grab a couple of products from her table and try them on my hair. She talked me through how much to use and how to apply the products to my hair, I found the product needed and know the technique to use for my hair. It took less than 10mins of her time and she did not charge me. I do not mind paying for services rendered but...Can someone tell me why are stylists are charging so much for natural hair?

I think people don't factor in the other costs of running a business and the specific costs of running a salon. Rental spaces, supplies, web hosting, utilities, assistant, any other services like calendar/scheduling apps, then there's also living expenses for the stylist (rent, food, utilities, medical bills, insurance, car payment, gas for car, car maintenance, retirement, savings, etc). You aren't just paying for the stylist's time and service. You have to make sure you're charging enough to cover your living expenses. Sometimes you are only able to charge what your clients can afford, but it can be at the cost of your quality of life. Everything else (rent, food, bills) is going up except some people salaries.

Maybe to help people...maybe because it's something they are passionate about... Maybe because they want to contribute to the hair industry in a positive way? Then you wonder why y'all get overcharged for less service...

I feel like most hairstylists are like this, this is why I just do my own hair! I remember I wanted to get my hair dyed and because I went for a consultation in my work uniform, they thought that they could up charge me a ridiculous amount of money! It’s annoying though cause I would like someone to do my hair every now and then, and make sure my trims are even, but such as life!
Also, can you not add the captions to the videos? Just add the option to turn them on & off please? Your videos are interactive (which I like) and I can not process everything in the videos with the captions permanently on the screen. Giving the option, allows people to turn it on & off at will! Thank you!

But… $297 multiplied by 30 ain’t $10,000. Is there additional money she gets for selling the products? Is it commission that then totals her $10,000?

$300 is a lot of money, but if the service is worth it, who am i to judge. It's just that I have been looking at natural hair videos on RUclips since the beginning of the natural hair movement. I've also followed aĺl of the black hair care forums. What is this woman teaching , for $300 a pop , that you can't research on your own for free?

Lol maybe y'all should read some of her reviews on yelp and refer to some of the experience of people that have gone to her. There's definitely a switch up on the personality. Maybe you just aren't really good at reading people. I had to learn as well.
