Cyclone Ialy arriving in Tanzania and Kenya

After defying forecasts for its whole life, Cyclone Ialy continues to drift northwestwards towards Kenya and has strengthened, peaking near hurricane strength a little earlier today. The storm will produce strong winds and heavy rain for the coast of northern Tanzania, Kenya, and southern Somalia in the next couple of days, with a landfall expected near Mombasa tomorrow. Ialy is by far the strongest storm seen in the area and the first since Cyclone Agathe in October 1976.
Elsewhere, an area of interest is getting better organised in the Bay of Bengal, and it's looking increasingly as though we are about to see the Northern Hemisphere finally rise. Assuming no storms form today, this will secure the northern hemisphere's latest first cyclone formation since 1927.
If the area of interest forms, the coast of Myanmar and Bangaldesh are likely to be hardest hit with strong winds and very high rainfall approaching 1000mm in some areas.
In the Western Pacific, chances are steadily increasing for another area of interest near Palau that we've been watching for over a week. The disturbance could affect the eastern islands of the Philippines before turning northeastwards, with projections that it could become a major typhoon later in the week.
