As a trans person, naming myself has been so difficult. I've had quite a few different names now but I finally thought of the name Toby, and I love it. I'm very happy with it and it took long to get to this point with a name :D
I'm non binary. I chose the name Elliot when I was 25 and gave myself the middle name of George (my dad's name). I chose Elliot just because I liked it when I was looking at a list of names and I wanted the more feminine spelling Elliot rather than the masculine Elliott.
I picked my name relatively easily (Tate), i just heard it somewhere, and it's not very popular, it sounds kinda sophisticated to my ear and reminds me of Tate gallery of Modern art😂 The problem is to pick my new last name that goes well with Tate because my current one is horrible.
tyty for sharing just venting about names: people my age just call me rat right now because my best friend gave it to me as a nickname a couple years ago and it caught on. adults call me my birthname. i've wanted to be called rowan for a long time now because i feel a connection to it and feel like it suits me and all but also because i'm really heavily interested in celtic paganism and the foraging practices for the sabbaths, and rowan is a celtic name! it's also the name of the tree obviously, and i love trees a lot. :)
another thing on names: i have a really close friend who's trans as well. his birthname was given to him by their dad who died of cancer 7 months ago, before he ever came out. they say their mom would be so angry and devastated to hear that he wants to pick a new name because she loved my friend's dad so much. he doesn't know what to do.
Maybe they should ask their mom if their dad had a name that he would have picked if your friend were amab? Or your friend could also honor their father by picking his middle as their middle name? Sounds like a tough situation though -- they're lucky to have you as a friend!
Really loved this video... I'm quite new to this world ─ I'm openly transgender to my friend by about a year or so ─ and I've struggled a bit with my "new" name. I'm Italian, and I don't like much Italian male names and I didn't want a name that would be difficult to pronounce for my country. My friends call me "Seth", by the way: it'is my nickname, picked when I was really young, and I like it a lot... But for an average Italian person, "Seth" is difficult to spell ─ most of them, if I don't correct them, will spell it "Set". And to be honest, "Seth" with my surname sounds ridiculous. TL;DT, my choice was between "Andrea" and "Samuel". One of my friends, by the way, started to call me "Sam"/"Samu" and she is so sweet and cute that has broke my heart the first time I heard her saying this name. I still remember what I felt, but not even that time I chose this. I chose it when I talked for the first time with my advocate (to start transition). She asked my name. I answered with "Samuel". She said: "How a beautiful name. Simple, not so complex like others I've heard from transgender guys (in Italy, a lot of guys chose foreign names). Great choice".
Your name is good, gives very sophisticated yet approachable vibes without sounding too juvenile. I can see why you picked it. Another artist, one of my favorites, was named Norman Rockwell.
i honestly wish my mom was a part of my life when i was choosing my name (she is now, and wasnt through no fault of me or her, it's complicated) because i would have loved for her to maybe choose my middle name. however she is very happy with the first and middle names i chose :) she actually wanted me to have a gender neutral name (my given name is gender neutral and all the other options she had chosen for me were gender neutral), and my given middle name is i was named after one of her friends who she is no longer friends with so she didn't really care that i wanted to change it. i like how my first name is gender neutral but my middle name (jeremy) is still masculine, i feel like it is very reflective and affirming of my gender identity :) also cameronn jeremy has a nice ring to it imo. i considered probably more middle names than first names. originally i was going to go with jae, then i thought of jeremy, jason, stone, dagger, and probably some more,, but ended up settling on jeremy! i like my name because it's not overly formal and has a lot of opportunity for nicknames. i feel like jeremy as a middle name gives my name a bit of edge that i really like, but it's not super apparent. it gives edge to me because i plucked it right from pearl jam's catalogue; their song jeremy about jeremy wade delle (which touches on subjects of mental illness and gun violence). i get called cam a lot which i adore, and my friends will also "cameronn" me when i do something cursed or cringy, but when people GENUINELY call me cameronn, even after almost three years, i still get butterflies! it makes me happy!
I'm still trying to figure out my name. I like to pull from characters I relate to. So far it's between Kenai( brother bear) Sokka(Atla) or Bruno( encanto) I also really like Aladdin.
I finally got my name changed on the school name to Cecil and this one teacher that is really bad at pronouncing names called me Cecilia lmao. but sometimes i don't like the name Cecil and i'm confused whether I should change it but its honestly the only name i liked i think the reason i dont like it is because of how some people pronounce it idk. btw your videos are really interesting :)
So giving yourself the name of a former president is big dick energy, giving yourself the name of one of the most famous kings is not? XD Your methodical process is really cool, also lovely thought of including your parents!
i could see it as a gender neutral name, so no i dont think it gives the same "feminine vibe" like Ashley. if you realy like the name then go for it! theres cis men with the name "Megan" for example, so i think ur fine =)

Toby is a great name!!
Aw as a mom (of a 1,5 year old) I find it so wholesome and thoughtful of you to include your parents in choosing your middle name!

Rowan and Rat are both great names 😃

I think Arthur’s a great name, it’s my awesome, nerdy, wholesome dad’s name, so you’re in good company with him and of course Arthur the Aardvark

now I am insecure about choosing a name that has average age of 7 :/
Is Adhya (prounciation: aadhya) a mascular name? If not, would it atleast pass.. And does it have the same feminine vibe as the name Ashley
Generally names ending with "a" sound feminine, you may want to avoid them
