    Maura was stopped for speeding in Hooksett New Hampshire. Maura had to appear in Hooksett District Court. Maura had to pay a a fine. Maura was told at that time that her privilege to operate in the state of New Hampshire was under suspension for a certain amount of time. If indeed Maura had not taken care of said suspension up until the time that she had the accident with her father's Corolla she would definitely still be aware of that fact and would not need to be told that by the Hadley police officer.
    Maura was well aware that she was still under suspension in the state of New Hampshire and that issue needed to be taken care of before she could operate in that state again.
    I would bet that somewhere and Maura belongings or at her parents house there should be a set of documents related to this incident which would further clear this up.
    Who was the person that Maura was supposed to be tutoring that week in athletics..? Was that a male or a female..?
    I think another important question here is did Maura have any clinicals scheduled for the week of February 9th 2004 that she would be missing because of her absence..?
    Let's get back to reality here folks.

    It would seem that she would tell her boyfriend, “ hey, I’m running up to NH to pay a reinstatement fee for my license. I’ll check in when I get back.” Especially if she knows her car is crap… I’ll listen to part two.

    I don’t know. I think it speaks to recklessness. Let’s see..Fort Knox shop lifting. She didn’t forget. She knew the honor code. Then stealing someone else’s credit card and charging it many many times. Impulse control problems.
    This is very important because it may indicate whether or not she jumped into some strangers car. Poor judgement?

      It’s been pretty thoroughly established the cases are in no way connected.

    If this Julie chick is from Massachusetts, than I am the king of Zimbabwe. She sounds like she is Canadian, not someone who was born and raised in Massachusetts. She has absolutely 0 accent. I wish you had asked her to say "park the car in the Harvard yard". This whole story was hinky to begin with. Hearing the "sisters" voice, makes me question the legitimacy of the entire story.

    More than likely she took the lip gloss so that she would have an infraction and be able to separate herself from West Point. West Point definitely has some issues and all you have to do is read the article with Donald Rumsfeld in it.

    great interview and nice and refreshing to listen to a show that strips this case down and talks about things rationally. Thoughts a prayers to the Murray family.
    I can understand her putting lip gloss in pocket a forgetting about it, especially if she was with friends and got distracted by giving an opinion on what they were purchasing for example.
    Regarding the credit card, has it been confirmed only Maura used it? could it be that a number of people were using it and Maura was told whenever she was ordering food to use the card as it belonged to someone in the dorm and their parents picked up the tab and just give them the cash at the end of the week so they had the cash and when caught realized what was going on and didn't want to rat them out and also appear foolish?
    Death in family - used as an excuse to getaway for a number of reasons and wouldn't be punished for missing a clinical trial:
    1) Pay outstanding fine
    2) fatigue & frustration (mental exhaustion) - Maura had taken a lot on, nursing studies, athletics, 2 jobs - under normal circumstances wouldn't be an issue for her but in a short space of time there was the credit card situation, accident in her dads car and call from her sister, all of this at a time as I understand things she was injured and unable to do her running, could her running be the thing that best helped her clear her mind?
    I would guess she was taking a week off, couple of days in NH at a motel to pay fine and just blowing off steam - thats what the alcohol was for then going for a few days to her moms house for a couple of reasons:
    1) taking the saturn to her moms house to sell from there as would have to pay for additional parking once she got new car.
    2) from what I've seen wasn't her mom unable to join search as she'd broken her ankle? Was Maura going to surprise her mom by turning up to help her out for a few days but also needing some mom time with everything she had going on?
    Regarding the accident scene, could it just be an accident? no conspiracy just an accident, maybe there was a car on the wrong side of the road, Maura had to swerve to avoid crashing and thats how she ended up on the wrong side of the road? After this, then something happens to Maura when she was walking to try and get a signal or was picked up by someone? The biggest issue isnt what was happening with Maura at Umass or what happened at West Point. It's that law enforcement did a piss poor job that night, from getting lost on way to scene to only checking in 1 direction. To thinking it was just a DUI runaway. Thats why they dont want the FBI involved and why they won't let Mr Murray and family have access to the case files. LE should do the decent thing and admit their failings, 10 years ago they denied access to the files as they said it would jeopardize the case and at the time said there was around 70% chance of criminal charges being issued soon? 10 years on and nothing so either release files to family or admit you lied/over exaggerated the progress being made.

  • @standishism
    @standishism 4 года назад +5

    Per the discussion of stolen lip gloss from military commissary @ 32:00 in, I do NOT believe for a single moment that people of average intelligence, never mind those as brilliant as Maura, ''put merchandise in their pocket while shopping and simply FORGET to pay for them upon leaving''. I do NOT wish to say anything derogatory about Maura, but hypothetically speaking, the ''forgot to pay notion'' is just STUPID!!! If a person is at a market and puts an item in their pocket, it shows intent which constitutes theft. I couldn't believe that you guys admitted to having done that. IT JUST ISN'T NORMAL!!!

    • @ryebreadreturn1
      @ryebreadreturn1 4 года назад +1

      I'm considered to be a pretty smart guy (majored in Physics in college and graduated magna cum laude), and I've definitely put merchandise in my pocket and forgotten to pay for it (when I found it I went back and paid). It's typically called being "scattered" or "absent-minded" and it's a trait people frequently associate with intelligence, so it's odd to me you can't believe someone as smart as Maura could have done this.
      Conversely, I would never in a million years intentionally steal something very cheap that I had the means to pay for, nor can I understand why someone would. It's a completely alien mindset to me. But just because I can't put myself in that mindset doesnt mean I can't believe someone else would do that. So yes of course Maura may also have deliberately stolen it. Clearly either is possible.

    New information, for sure. I definitely am not one to think her Dad was any kind of person that was terrible to his daughter at all. I also know that some of the things Maura did, that are looked down on, are not near as bad as what many get themselves into at the age of 21. I do wonder why it seems that no one wants to touch on the idea that she had a recent history of getting into some situations, that might be the cause of her wanting to get away. She had issues with the boyfriend. She had that wreck. Even if her Dad blew up (at first) some make it sound like shame on him for doing that. He’s human for goodness sake. Yelling at a kid that just totaled your car is not a bad thing. So what I’m saying, is that all of those things probably piled up on her, and made her want to get away for that week.

      Not true. She could’ve started walking in the cold, realized police were showing up, she was drunk and cold, and then just jumped into the first car that offered a ride after Butch. Whoever that person was could’ve done her harm.
      Another reason why finding out why she was up there is important is that it could perhaps help us understand who did this? If she was alone, probably a stranger and if she wasn’t then the tandem driver.

      Just for the record, I know people who’ve had suspended licenses in certain states and never went back to drive in that state and still got along fine. My father did a cross country trip and got his license revoked in PA. He lives no where near there, and was never going to be driving in PA again. So he never took care of it and he has a license and car registered to him without an issue. So you don’t NEED to take care of that to get a new car.
      It’s certainly possible Maura went to NH to do that though. Nobody really knows. What always bothered me was the large amount of alcohol she had purchased.

    Total mess of an interview, both parts. Sloppy use of a good PR opportunity - if that's what Julie and her family really wanted. Unless she's being strategically deceptive, Julie sounds very naive, misguided, and undisciplined. Also, the Captain was not exactly sensitive to one or two of Julie's siblings, essentially furthering the scapegoat/golden-child family dynamic (see Salvador Minuchin and Judith Lewis Herman) constantly on public display and which may in fact be central to a solution. Captain's voice is especially handy for editing. Did police review this interview before it was made public? Is that why so much of it sounds useless?
