In this 254th episode of Dave Tate's Table Talk, Jesse Ackerman joins us. Welcome, Jesse!
As the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the DC Defenders and the St. Louis Battlehawks during the XFL's 2022-2023 relaunch, Jesse Ackerman orchestrated simultaneous strength programs leading to triumphant seasons. Notably, the Defenders clinched a championship game appearance, with several players seamlessly transitioning to NFL rosters under his direct guidance.
From 2016 to 2020, Jesse served as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL. His integrative approach, blending activation methods, biomechanical analysis, diverse strength modalities, speed development, and sport-specific movement refinement, significantly contributed to the optimal performance of numerous NFL players.
Jesse's commitment to excellence extends beyond the NFL. His tenure as a Performance Coach with the 75th Ranger Regiment 1st Battalion showcased his prowess in preparing soldiers for deployment and bridging physical therapy to performance for those recovering from injury. He also crafted a regeneration manual for rangers deployed in challenging environments.
A Willowick, Ohio native, Jesse's collegiate years at John Carroll University saw him excel as an All-America Defensive Lineman and Team Captain. His commitment to education includes a Master's in Exercise Science from California University of Pennsylvania, a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and a Bachelor's in Education from John Carroll University.
Beyond accolades, Jesse embraces a holistic training philosophy, advocating for methods beyond traditional strength and conditioning. His dynamic career includes clinic presentations nationwide, reflecting his passion for sharing knowledge.
In Winter Garden, FL, Jesse resides with his devoted wife Christine and their son, DC.

This is just a observation, this podcast went up in January on Spotify. Is there a method behind the uploading schedule difference between Spotify and RUclips? I will say this however, the audio quality has gotten a lot better between this podcast and the most recent one on Spotify

ok but here's something i really don't understand:
boxers and mma fighters and tennis players want speed and power, but they generally don't lift heavy weights...
powerlifters and weightlifters as well as runners and football players also want speed and power, and they usually lift heavy weights in their training.....Janik Sinner seems like he's never touched an object heavier than a bag of rackets, but he tested positive for PEDs.........meanwhile on the women's side, Serena Williams looked like she was lifting a lot more than her competitors and she was using that power to dominate the sport for a whole era and it seemed like none of the other women's player's had the idea to start lifting and close the power gap.
it seems like the boxers, mma fighters and tennis players are just wrong and dumb in this case, but at the same time, it's hard to imagine Ed Coan beating Jannik Sinner in tennis, so what is really going on here?

It's true fighters are just retarded typically but it's already changing, the info about importance of weights is spreading

Skill demands are far higher in something like MMA or Tennis. So a majority of training economy (and therefor fatigue management) goes into the primary skill being developed. In sports with less direct technicality (football) or even movement specificty being strength oriented (Strongman and Powerlifting) you see a lot more priority on the actual development of resistance training with free weights being the majority. You still see people like you mentioned (Serena) or even guys like Tiger Woods still developing fantastic power and strength through traditional means, and then transferring that to their skill. But it takes lots of time and commitment beyond simply developing the skill itself.

Why would a tennis player lift weights - he moves racket and hits a tennis ball, just think about it
MMA guys do train with weights - full contact - you need your body protected, muscles are a natural armor
NFL even more so - they just hit each other with extreme disregard (from moderate point of view) because it is only secondary, instrumental to the main objective, which is scoring, so they go crazy
In mma you at least purposefully defend as well
Serena is a freak btw, an outlier, by no means a rule
You kind of mixed it all up, and confuse the point even further
What does Ed Coan not beating Sinner in tennis even entails?

@@Beastking1107 the discussion is about speed being the greatest expression of strength. tennis players benefit from being fast, so i would think they would lift more. i lift and play tennis and i never felt like the lifting was holding my tennis back. obviously there is limited time and energy in the day so i obviously wouldn't expect tennis players to put the same time and intensity into lifting as someone who is competing in powerlifting, but if sprinters benefit from lifting, i don't understand how tennis players wouldn't also benefit. the fact that Sinner took peds means he must think that being stronger will help him.
as far as ed coan vs sinner, i only used him as an example because it was a funny mental image to me because his perfect limb lengths for powerlifting are the total opposite of what you want in tennis.
