Hello! Throwing this in the pins, but I am reading all the takes and want y'all to know that Im really loving the thoughtful and respectful energy. I didn't expect to see so many takes and don't want to respond to some and not others so I'll just be reading from the ~shadows~ moving forward 😅 that said, know Im reading and appreciating them all! mostly want you all to know your feelings and hopes are valid. it will ultimately come down to TNT to pick the difficult path forward and I don't envy their position at all. I don't believe there is an explicit "right" and "wrong" just competing priorities which makes it all the more complicated. Hope y'all are taking care of yourselves and remember to step away as you need ツ These things can be super emotionally draining (also i just finished nq2 on insane go me 🎉)
i SO agree with everything you said omg, you struck a great balance between the two sides. i’m happy that UCs will be more accessible & excited for the potential possibilities for more skins & stuff, and I’ll definitely be scoopin up lots of em but i think the people who aren’t involved in the pet trading community who are chalking all the strong negative feelings about everything up to “elitists throwing a fit that their status symbols don’t mean as much anymore” are making really unfair & misguided statements about what is largely just people mourning a huge portion of what they do on the game & how they enjoy neopets. and yeah, 100% agree about the situation w the paintbrushes/how they’re handling inflation in general. i’m holding out hope it’ll go over well & everyone will adjust but i’m nervy about the pay-to-play/gacha implications 😵💫😵💫😵💫
thank u 4 the support ;-; im just hoping TNT continues to take feedback and improve because we're definitely in a stronger position than we've ever been with the team and I want that to translate to decisions that support the longevity of the game
I agree, I think it’s a bit too easy that the pet doesn’t have to be painted for it to be UC now. I think a better route would have been to finalize all the colors first, then the UC token will UC-ify your pet to whatever you currently have i.e. a blue blumaroo would still be blue but it’d be the old art with him bouncing on his tail. Personally I support, the conversion of all the pets, logically it just makes sense and as long as the pets look the same I don’t see the issue. Of course there is backlash, but imagine the backlash there would have been back in 2007 if they had let us know what was coming! I am curious to see how pet trading is handled now that UCs will all be premium items essentially. More than anything, I see a lot of speculation happening, which is silly considering we’ll all have answers in a matter of days.
I would love for an NP style kit that is a huge neopoint sink that always restocks in the hidden tower. While NC kits being no trade outside of your main/sides.
making the ncuc wearable be able to change the pet into ANY paint color is for sure crazy… if they really do roll it out that way I hope their comes a time where tnt gives out neocash overtime to players who don’t want to spend have an option to grind and wait for that amount. as a new player this is all so exciting but also a bit scary haha…
My only issue with the UC is that they wouldn’t let us know the price, nor let us know if it would be straight forward or a gotcha mechanic. It was asked a lot in the discord and they would not confirm nor deny anything. I feel like these 2 aspects could have easily helped with the anxiety of many
Yea I agree. Though I feel like the secretive approach to pricing may imply it's still potentially not finalized? I don't see why else they wouldn't say anything about it..
Forreal! NC always takes multiple days to hit my account so I would have really liked to know how much to add ahead of time. I ended up adding $20 on Friday just in case and it still hasn't hit yet. Blah. Hope it's there before tomorrow
@@KevinoGaming my issue with it too is they refused to confirm or deny if it would function with a gotcha mechanic and I feel like that speculation could easily have been quelled.
I completely agree with so many of your thoughts! I know this may be an unpopular opinion but I do kinda wish that we had to paint our pet to the correct species/color and then apply the design styling tool. This way it still keeps the goal of trying to get a darigan paint brush or grey paint brush rather than just using NC to buy it outright. I do think that will take away some of the fun for me just because I enjoy the grind and working towards those neo-goals.
I completely agree with you and I'm not sure why that's a controversial opinion or why expressing that on Reddit makes people call you a neo elitist who doesn't support different play styles. The only reason UCs, avatars, prize shop items and more mean something is because people have to put in work to get them. If you're taking that effort away you're left with no valuable items, no goals to work towards and zero gameplay. I don't really care about UCs either way but I feel this should be a pretty obvious concept
Big agree with you on this one. I'm pretty fine with all the decisions TNT has made with this roll out BESIDES the "pet doesn't need to be painted that color for NC item to work" one. I'm probably gonna still self-impose painting the pet the color I want, just because I like having those goals to work towards in the game.
Yea I'll likely do the same though I think the self imposed goals will only take me so far in terms of satisfaction. I tried to be explicit that for me it isnt about thinking everyone needs to suffer to get their dream pets, but rather this is setting a really scary precedent in terms of how they approach gameplay mechanics
As someone who's very much on the "TNT ruined everything" train rn lol, I do honestly agree with most of your points!! For me the most egregious thing is, as you mentioned, a free-to-play feature is now exclusively pay-to-win. It's now possible to buy pet colors with real money, and that's against everything Neopets used to be about. Now a new player will be completely unable to achieve a UC dreamie without paying real money, when before they could achieve anything if they just put in the time. (I myself went from creating a VWN basic to a T8 in a matter of months -- UC trading has not been some "elitist, unobtainable goal" for years now.) I love how NC UCs are opening up accessibility to UCs. But it's not accessible for everyone. Those without disposable income are completely alienated from that aspect of the game. All I do on the site is trade pets, and half of the PC's activities will pretty much be dead now. They should've kept OG UCs as their own separate thing, and delegated NC UC tokens to be traded on the NCC. That way both markets (i.e. those who liked the old art/older pets/had the time on their hands, vs those who like the new art/wanted new UCs/had the money to buy them) would be satisfied.
after the maintenance, some items in the html5 pet pages now show up as invisible and other bugs instead of just like.. not being animated. we really really need to push for this next, my poor evil grarrl in the void instead of his mansion...
we are now post-update and I've been loving watching the fun & frivolity take over the NC board, as people gamble on their cheaper tokens and just trade styles amongst each other if they wanted something different... ^^ it's sweet, like watching nature overtake something after a fire ahaha. Watching the more intense players focus on trying to get 'em all or aim for a specific unreleased token for a gallery... clearly as much as a niche is being destroyed, a lot are also being created! For now those unreleased tokens are really causing a microclimate, so it's not all for nothing for the UC-havers. They still clearly have something a lot of people want (and who knows how or when something like a robot pet token will be conventionally released?). I've also been seeing people discuss using the discrepancy between what the pet is 'painted' and 'styled' to deepen their pet's lore (like having an on-site 'robot' pet 'disguised' as a 'faerie'), which is a fun new layer for goals. I hope despite the fuss that the outcome is satisfying ^^ I am finding it super cute ! lots of creativity flowing right now on the boards! Lots of helping hands gifting and exchanging tokens! ...like a lot of users, I'm only desperately waiting for the pound to open up so I can transfer some permies to my NC account and actually use more tokens xD LET ME REARRANGE MY MAAAAAIINNN!!!!!!! AAAAA
This video is definitely a breath of fresh air with a lot of the really nasty stuff going around the community right now. Not only have I been extremely sad about the decision, often when I've tried to express that the community has called me an inflator, an elitist, or tried to explain away the core issue I have with the implementation.
Thank you for being empathetic to those of us that are upset at another forced conversion. After stepping away from the socials for a couple of days, I am more calm and accepting of the upcoming change. I wish that TNT had given us an official warning or hints that softened the blow instead of dropping a bomb 2 days before trading options were paused. When I took that survey months ago, there was no hint that OG UC would be changed. Just added elements to make new pets look UC. Which I am still all in favor for. I don't pet trade or even NC trade. I am just a player with a 20y/o acct and 2 UC's that are my favorite things on the site. I still wish they weren't being converted. I liked that they were this neo time capsule. Yes, they will be skinned to look original but they won't be and that makes me sad. I am so tired of being attacked by other players for being upset. This has made me really want to step back from all socials interaction with the community as it wasn't the nice place I had thought it to be. Thanks for your thoughts and good job hosting the lives!
Hearing the first few seconds of this vid right after watching Salem's vid was a shock lmao! That being said, I agree with you more. I do understand that change is difficult, and that the the communication has been very sloppy by TNT, but I just think this is the right move in general.
I have been more recently getting back into neopets and finally got accesss to my old account from like middle school. I was never an involved player so I've been trying to figure out and learn the ins-and-outs of the game and your channel has been sooo so helpful!
Thank you for sharing your take -- especially as someone who has been in the pet trading community. You captured all the positive and negative feelings about the whole thing very nicely. And great job hosting. Your peace out at the end of the giveaway was amazing :D
I love and appreciate your voice of reason so much. You actually put this more into perspective for me; I haven’t gotten involved in any of the discourse but I was just kind of thinking like “what’s really the big deal with UC pets anyway” not taking into account that trading UC pets is an entire niche of how people like to play the game. I think it just feels like so many new things have happened/are happening all within a pretty short span of time, we’re all just kind of on edge worrying about what’s gonna happen with the future of the game. On a different note, I would LOVEEEE if they brought back old old old designs of the pets, that would be so fun and make my kid at heart so happy!
The problem I have with the new UC being NC is the longevity of the site. Not about TNT getting money and mantaining it but for player gameplay loop. I have seen many people in other games that throw a bunch of money at a game and then disappear because they are bored, sometimes they stick around only because of the "investment" made. They might see a spike in player count and money but how long will it last?
i agree with a lot of this! my only concern with this whole process has been the paywall & the possibility of ncucs being released on a gacha system/in capsules, then some species skins will end up being more "valuable" and inflated by nc traders. D; i don't have any ucs and plan on indulging in ncuc skins for my pets, but i also don't want to have to trade up for nc skins like they're 20cap nc items D;
i love immensely that the paintbrushes arent required. if it were required at the start, that wouldve been great. but now? just gold rush inflation of brush prices a small few are capable of taking advantage of, and tnt deflating them will just piss them off in a different way. i dont want to hear anything about the cost being neocash being a problem, while the site gets away with nasty neocash item lootbox gambling. given theyre so comfortable doing that, this couldve been so much worse
they also either need to make neocash item trading onsite and as clear as the trading post or i SHOULD be able to see an nc item i want, and just! buy it! want my money? let me give it to you!
Wow…. I didn’t realize u don’t need to have the Neopet painted that color to have it uc! I pained all my pets and had them all ready for when UC was implemented. Is so weird! Now I basically waisted all my neopoints, it’s super weird it’s not just one item for all and uc need the pet painted, they have to be named for each Color? Tbh that’s kinda stupid. I also don’t like art changes. I wish they just did old exact art with changed line work. Most of these are redesigns just about. Not for me.
You described exactly how I feel about NCUCs in every aspect - the mass-conversion, the pay-to-win aspect of not needing the pet to be painted, need for more Neopoint sinks, etc. This was a very fair video. I want to support Neopets monetarily but not in a way that sacrifices their integrity. P.S. Neoquest III. TNT please.
Everything you said are my exact thoughts especially the part about being able to use the items on pets regardless of their current colour. Like I spent SO MUCH of my neopoints to paint pets with the hopes of making them a NCUC, but it was all a waste of in game currency 😢
I genuinely hope after the change takes place and the dust settles EVERYONE will find new ways to enjoy the site and have fun. Change is SO hard, especially when you've grown attached to a site that hasn't changed in 15 years (calling myself out here.)
I highly, highly doubt that the decision of making so the NC UC don't need to be painted the exact color you are convering, is related to inflation...like, it doesn't make sense. It doesn't tackle albums, battledome items, avatar items, petpetpets, etc. It would be much better if they added it to the weekly reward! that would make them drop in price and still make you work for it (the Lost Desert Paint Brush is 600k, for example, when it used to be 12.000.000 before the release of the daily task feature).
This is my first video of yours I've seen, after seeing you in the live. Everything you said has been fair points!! Totally agree about the auto conversion being a necessary evil for the sake of structure. I am a little worried of the buying-the-colors-I-want mechanic and how that changes the structure of Neopets (and my wallet) too, but am curious to explore other parts of the site now also that I'm not used to (Battledome, Foodclub, Gallery Collecting, HTML etc). Luckily there's so many different aspects to the site, so I'm hoping I / we can still channel our energy into other fun areas of the site. And I'm super excited to have some of my dream pets too! I think TNT is doing the best they can and making really great changes overall. We can't please everyone about every detail, but I think the last few months have had so many nice additions. So many of my friends have come back to the site the last few months which has been so fun for me. Curious to see where we go from here :)
I think the UC thing has been a source of stress and hurt more than anything else for a very, very long time. I'm glad it's being democratized. This will hurt and people have a right to be mad but I think the greater hurt is being addressed in this case. I fought so long to get a grey ixi, then my dream died. I was NOT going to engage with the pet trading thing. Too many risks and stress. The dream was just gone. I'm only one story like that
Hard agree w/ you and everyone on the "pet doesn't need to be painted that specific color for it to work" stance. Having goals isn't a bad thing, and as many have pointed out, putting the non-static PBs in prize pools or as HT items would combat inflation and give a clear finish line for people who like to set goals on the site. Aside from that (and a heavy grain of salt for what I say next, research into news/editorials dating back 10+ years ago is slippery) UCs weren't meant to be a permanent fixture on the site. At least what I recall having been around during conversion and the chaos that happened afterwards, then-current TNT effectively had them as mementos to people who would miss the old look. They weren't going to be supported and (though we know different now) could not be re-unconverted if an incident occurred. Overall, people are mourning a big change, the grief response is very real and valid! The name-calling, down-putting, and cattiness I've seen from some is unhelpful and it often overtakes civil discussion of the updates happening on the boards. Which means I've only had my bestie to talk to and instead been a quiet observer on the site. :P
Some of my thoughts about NCUCs: I'm sure they put a lot of thought into the decision to convert pets as best outcome. I know there were a couple UCs (such as the Faerie Tusk) that had been broken for around a year now and never got fixed, so I wouldn't be surprised if they made this decision because of neo's coding. A problem I have is you'd need a gift box to move the token around. There's a lot of people who have UCs on their sides who will be stuck with those tokens there without buying GBCs for giftboxes (and Trudys isn't an option). They should make it so the token don't require a gift box to send to other accounts. You also bring up a really good point about colour still being something to work towards rather than just needing the correct species for the token, and YESSS PUT PAINT BRUSHES IN THE HIDDEN TOWER! I'm not sure why they don't use the HT more often. As someone who has been in the pet trading scene for over 10 years, overall I'm really excited! A RUclipsLive would be cool to do for the release day, but I don't think the site is going to be functional once the release happens 🤣
I really appreciate you sharing your opinions! I feel like some people have been so disrespectful to the PCers and really just in general to parts of the site they don't understand. You can have your opinion and still have empathy for others. And I am also so against the idea of paint brushes not being needed. And it makes me wonder what was even the point of all the FFQ's we got during the Faerie Festival! It doesn't feel like they're really thinking through some things and I wish they would take more community feedback, especially from veteran players.
Thank u for another slayful video...totally with you in that i just wanna log on and play my silly little pet game without stressing about it but agree on all points!! I will probably still paint my future NC UCs the matching color because I NEED the pet lookup header to match haha
As a long time player of neopets for years I really love this video and it was refreshing to hear your perspective. My biggest issue is just locking them behind paywalls I also feel the pet not having to be painted a particular color is just a horrible idea :( As someone who runs a 8k gaming community, I know how hard it is to make everyone happy....and i understand the importance of needing the game to make money but you said it best. Lock them in the hidden tower to control their price. Even temporarily. I know they had surveys but maybe advertise that on site ~ i know i never saw anything and i try to make my opinion known.
There was definitely some shocks within the live AMA. I think UCs were never meant to be permanent, that was the message we were told originally but many got so used to them being around! With such a long time in between I guess people thought they'd never get rid of them or change them as they are a huge draw. I am a longtime player and had painted my UCs. I didn't trade for them, I'm just so use to them looking the way they do and to hear they are finally changing them to a skin is bitter sweet. Many people have been talking about how people are upset because of the value of UCs, but there are also those of us who had painted and held onto our pets as is.I guess it's a delayed feeling of grief that everyone must have felt back in 2007 when their pets were auto converted? Also those users in 2007 didn't get any warning at all, just a vague line in the news the day before lol Now I've had some time, I'm slowly getting used it and I'm excited to have choice for my other pets instead of trading. I am really excited that we will be able to get a UC now but it was a shock to hear ALL current would be converted. I guess that I thought there would be a "toggle on" rather than toggling everything off then apply on, but now that I read about how much they have been hard to keep coding in, I understand! As a UC Faerie Ixi owner, the art they showed as before is the art that shows in the NC mall with soft pastel linings and not the art that's on their look-ups, if you look at them closely the line work is currently a dark purplish? I think with a few tweaks it will be nice. Also, not sure if you're in Neopets Nation but someone did some really cute art of you sipping tea!
i hate the status mentality people have on the site. them having RWs/RNs/Item Petpets/UC Petpets/ etc.(i do hope TNT does something about these as well but i doubt it). Well Known PCer: "Bye my lovelies :( the changes made me want to quit and i do not agree what is happening" Me: Bye random person on the internet!! i doubt you'll fully quit :) i have a BD pet, if they reset the stats on every pet, i wouldn't give a shit or if names somehow can be duped and IDs are a thing.
Kevin, as an avid PCer and someone who does NOT agree with the auto conversion decision, I VERY MUCH appreciate this video and your honest but balanced takes! I can totally see why you feel the way you do and completely respect your opinions- esp regarding the NC UC color tokens! I will push back a little bit however, and say that I do think the auto conversion and wiping UC trading (without NC being involved) from the site is a huge mistake, and will cost TNT money. I’m truly sad for all of the BN-DN UC pets that have been lovingly traded around for years and are going to be stripped of their UC tokens and dumped in the pound to rot indefinitely. I am sad I’ll never see a UC in the pound again, and that I’ll have to see my long term UC pets as default converteds at any point. Update the UC artwork, sure. But I do think that auto converting all of the UCs at this point is a huge mistake. Maybe TNT should have converted everything in 2007, but they didn’t, and to kill off a huge part of the site now is hugely counterproductive imo.
I'm not surprised that people are getting mad about minute changes to art, but it is a bit ridiculous. I played neopets as a kid and recently came back. The site and art desperately need to be overhauled. Half of it is broken. Tons of the images do not look good at all. They're not even nostalgically low res, they're so muddy it's difficult to make out details. A cohesive art style and experience is a net good. I get people not wanting Their Thing to change when they like it perfectly fine the way it is. But she is not thriving... The average person today (and more importantly, child!!) is not going to stick around if it all looks and feels janky and dated. Which it does. I imagine it's the kind of thing you can get used to and stop noticing, but having just come back... it's very obvious. I'd love a neopets comeback, but if they're going to do that they'll have to make it more appealing and user friendly to current kids. The nostalgic adult playerbase literally has not been keeping them afloat... (I can only speak about the art, everything else is above my paygrade rn)
I get why they want consistency with the pets per paintbrush/appearance while still trying to keep the peace by allowing the UC looks to be available to others. Even if only aesthetically, I think it neat they thought that through. Although they may not be perfect, I think it's interesting they're working on stuff like this. Now...lets work on the games/flash stuff Neopets :I
I was also for mass conversion, as it never really felt fair that not every unique style was allowed to be a UC, or my faerie usul would have been a UC this whole time. I understand for some people UC trading WAS how they played the game but honestly I saw this more like speedrunners for games. You CAN play that way but it isn't how the game was intended to be played, and at any point a patch or whatever could totally change it. UCs coming back as been rumored for years. I totally get the needed changes to some of the art but man I am not used to my Faerie Usul yet. I would love them to change the line art on her eyes but I'm feeling doubtful it will happen as she wasn't a super popular pet to begin with and everyone is just saying it looks better. It does look better objectively...except the eyes. But yeah I think I really expected this to make me feel like I got my childhood pet back, but some of the more dramatic changes on the pets made me lose most of the nostalgic feeling I was expecting to have. I am still upset about the choice for paint brushes to not matter for this. I know people will always want PBs for customs, but it was such a core part of the game. You can't use "royal boy clothes" on a non royal boy pet, so this just feels not right to me but I get that this was a more financially savy choice. Even if you did your pet in 100% Neocash only, you STILL had to play the game normally to paint the pet to make the rest of it. This takes that way. They could just be rotating the weekly prizes or literally just bump the odds up a bit at places like fruit machine.
8:58 I think this means the item would work on all color pets regardless of color. Like there's no specific "fairy scorchio converter" item or something.
Like put it on a blue lupe and it'll stay a blue lupe just unconverted. Put it on a gray lupe and it'll stay a gray lupe unconverted. Kinda like a clothing item or something.
Here's my perspective as someone who played Neopets "back in the day", stopped playing for a long time, recently came back, and only knew what "UCs" were due to Izzzyzzzy's (sp?) videos: the UC trading is MUCH more inaccessible to the average joe than just paying $$ for a UC skin. I don't play a pet sim game to interact with people, ha ha. If trading was the only way to obtain a UC . . . I simply wouldn't. It doesn't matter that they were "technically" free. They might as well cost a million dollars. Also, the whole UC thing is very confusing to anyone who wasn't already in the know and, I imagine, especially confusing to brand new players. And very discouraging for any incoming kids, who could be a huge, new audience for Neopets. I'm sorry for the people who are losing an aspect of the game they enjoyed, but IMO Neopets made the right call in ripping the bandaid off. And finally, I do think there was a degree of that "collector fever" that makes people desire whatever is hard to obtain. I'm not demonizing that, I collect toys and I definitely have gotten excited over finding something rare, that maybe I would only think "oh, cute" about if it was common. But also as a toy collector I'm always aware that companies can and sometimes will rerelease something rare, tanking its value. Therefore, I do think it's good to consider what you actually like about a toy (or Neopet): the actual toy? or only its rarity?
I'm super surprised we don't have to pet them the color of the token but I'm doing it anyway when I can afford to because without goals I will definitely get bored. But overall I think these are wonderful changes. Especially bringing back the UCs that were auto converted like the uc faerie Bruces ❤❤
My main take on the forced conversion is that I welcome it - many of us didn't get the choice back in the day and keeping some pets UC while many were forced converted was a bad move. There really should be a way to get the NCUC stuff with PC though. It's wild that they'll be NC only... even if I'll be getting a few.
1000% agree with you! on the one hand i understand the criticisms wrt making paint colors pay to play essentially but on the other hand neopets is just a silly little animal game and i would just like to play it without stressing over stuff like a lot of people have been doing lol.
It does feel weird to me that pets don't need to be painted the corresponding color, especially since there are plenty of NC items already that DO require a pet to be a specific color to use them. I'm gonna paint my draik Darigan anyways before adding the styling studio item because it feels wrong to not have them match lol.
I dont mind the altered art too much, and i dont mind the conversion. I'm also fine with UCs being a pay-to-obtain type thing since thats basically what they have been due to the black market. I do worry though that if they are going the gacha route with the new UCs that the price total wont be reasonable enough to uproot said black market. For the most part i'm more or less ok with how things are going but this is the first time i have heard that you wont need to paint your pet at all and i am not a fan. kind of cheapens the whole thing for me tbh. i'd like to play the game and work towards my dream pets at least a lil bit outside of NC. I'm also kind of bummed that it sounds like UC trading is going to be more of a NC thing and less of a pet trade thing? The change puts those pets in a weird place. like, is it ok to trade NC items for uc pets now? can i trade a non UC pet for a UC pet? how will all that work?? I'm also a big pound surfer and was super excited at the idea of seeing UCs in the pound again but i guess that wont happen now- or ever again. =/
if we want UCs AND we want TNT to monetize for the sake of the site's viability AND we want dream pets to be somewhat challenging to obtain, i don't know what the ideal answer is. i feel like TNT is between a rock and a hard place. just like in the real world, the economy is very complex and lacks clear answers whilst everyone thinks they know the answers. TNT is just a group of humans trying their best to keep alive a site whose existence is precarious. my unpopular gut feeling is that things won't change that much, but we'll see. if obtaining dream pets becomes easy, maybe a new core aspect of the game needs to be created. i really appreciate your commentary and content!!
I remember back in the day, one of the only main ways to earn NPS, was to play games. I remember loving the 50k a day guide. Which essentially is equivalent to 1k nowadays Everything these days is now handed out with minimal effort. And people still complain. Oof
I'd guess that's because of the economy tbh. As you say, NP doesn't go as far as it used to. Although I'm not sure if their solution (printing more money) is a good one lol
Thank you for sharing. Quite frankly, I think that TNT's "clarification" post in discord, caused way more confusion. Having NCUC wearables be able to change the color of any pet changes the game so fundamentally that I think she meant something else entirely. We'll have to wait to see what happens on Tuesday!
Neogoals are now just one paycheck away.. How sad... Until they realize they don't like it anymore.. Which will be even more sad. Good game, and goodbye Neopets. 👋 Who needs all of this drama anyways... No one will ever be happy. It's all just chaos.
What would be the benefit of gatekeeping UCs? I personally think allowing a pet to be turned into UC without having being painted that color is a non-issue.
I disagree that it a pay to play mechanic. Aesthetics of your pet do not change anything in the game beyond how they look. Having a NCUC doesn’t raise your pet’s battledome stats or help you restock better. It’s just how it looks. It also doesn’t make paintbrushes, FFQs, or lab ray obsolete. NCUC will probably behave the same way as UCs meaning limited customization. So if you have a dream customization, you will still have to get the paintbrush or FFQ or lab zap to get what you want. It also in the end doesn’t really change your pet. If you slap a blue draik with a NCUC item on it to make it a grey draik, the moment you remove it it’s still a blue draik. I think a lot of the fan base is making a mountain out of molehills. Not specifically Kevin but calling it pay to play when it changes nothing but aesthetics, dances that line.
Only thing I dont like Is that you can just paint any pet with they style kit even if they arent painted that specific color already. Takes the hard work and satisfaction out of getting pbs and painting pets. You can just turn a blue pet fae or grey with money now :/
its weird to me that people think it makes "real" UCs indistinguishable from new ones. like, the pets keep their age...? you'll still be able to tell which ones are originals.
UC stands for 'unconverted' and it's talking about the old pet art before they were mostly all 'converted' in order to allow the pets to wear clothing :3
Hope y'all are taking care of yourselves and remember to step away as you need ツ These things can be super emotionally draining
(also i just finished nq2 on insane go me 🎉)
i SO agree with everything you said omg, you struck a great balance between the two sides. i’m happy that UCs will be more accessible & excited for the potential possibilities for more skins & stuff, and I’ll definitely be scoopin up lots of em but i think the people who aren’t involved in the pet trading community who are chalking all the strong negative feelings about everything up to “elitists throwing a fit that their status symbols don’t mean as much anymore” are making really unfair & misguided statements about what is largely just people mourning a huge portion of what they do on the game & how they enjoy neopets. and yeah, 100% agree about the situation w the paintbrushes/how they’re handling inflation in general. i’m holding out hope it’ll go over well & everyone will adjust but i’m nervy about the pay-to-play/gacha implications 😵💫😵💫😵💫
I love seeing my two favorite Neopets creators being a FIRST comment. :')
thank u 4 the support ;-; im just hoping TNT continues to take feedback and improve because we're definitely in a stronger position than we've ever been with the team and I want that to translate to decisions that support the longevity of the game
Omg @@CatNaps, Im totally fangirling over this moment right now
I agree, I think it’s a bit too easy that the pet doesn’t have to be painted for it to be UC now.
The paintbrush trade will take a huge hit from this... I was going to buy a grey PB for my draik but now... is it necessary???
Maybe it's not finalized or maybe because it will cause more controversies? 😅
If it causes paintbrush prices to drop, I'm for it!
I hate having to wait for an FFQ to paint my pets certain colors....
This was all so well said Kevin. BTW a youtube live when the ucs go live is absolutely something I'd tune into! :D
You really hit the nail on the head with this thank you so much for the kindness in your presentation too
Thank you for sharing your take -- especially as someone who has been in the pet trading community.
They might see a spike in player count and money but how long will it last?
i agree with a lot of this! my only concern with this whole process has been the paywall & the possibility of ncucs being released on a gacha system/in capsules, then some species skins will end up being more "valuable" and inflated by nc traders. D; i don't have any ucs and plan on indulging in ncuc skins for my pets, but i also don't want to have to trade up for nc skins like they're 20cap nc items D;
Really loving your classy, voice-of-reason vibes 🙏✨
i love immensely that the paintbrushes arent required. if it were required at the start, that wouldve been great. but now? just gold rush inflation of brush prices a small few are capable of taking advantage of, and tnt deflating them will just piss them off in a different way. i dont want to hear anything about the cost being neocash being a problem, while the site gets away with nasty neocash item lootbox gambling. given theyre so comfortable doing that, this couldve been so much worse
they also either need to make neocash item trading onsite and as clear as the trading post or i SHOULD be able to see an nc item i want, and just! buy it! want my money? let me give it to you!
First time ever I hear someone saying "UCs pets shouldn't have existed in the first place". I thought I was the only one in that boat!
Some of my thoughts about NCUCs:
I'm sure they put a lot of thought into the decision to convert pets as best outcome.
You're iconic Kevin, the girls love you and your channel. 🫶
My biggest issue is just locking them behind paywalls I also feel the pet not having to be painted a particular color is just a horrible idea :(
As someone who runs a 8k gaming community, I know how hard it is to make everyone happy....and i understand the importance of needing the game to make money but you said it best.
Also those users in 2007 didn't get any warning at all, just a vague line in the news the day before lol
Now I've had some time, I'm slowly getting used it and I'm excited to have choice for my other pets instead of trading.
No way the pound chat won't be the only active board, I'm curios what new life players will bring in beyong stalking one board for days
i hate the status mentality people have on the site. them having RWs/RNs/Item Petpets/UC Petpets/ etc.(i do hope TNT does something about these as well but i doubt it).
Well Known PCer: "Bye my lovelies :( the changes made me want to quit and i do not agree what is happening"
Me: Bye random person on the internet!! i doubt you'll fully quit :)
i have a BD pet, if they reset the stats on every pet, i wouldn't give a shit or if names somehow can be duped and IDs are a thing.
The graphic updated UC look almost identical. Can’t even notice the changes, lol people are funny.
THE GIRLS ARE MADDDDDDD LMFAO
God the PC was in absolute SHAMBLES that first day. I can't wait until the 23rd. :D
If it makes painbrushes cheaper in the long run, I'm for it!
Which essentially is equivalent to 1k nowadays
Everything these days is now handed out with minimal effort. And people still complain. Oof
I'd guess that's because of the economy tbh. As you say, NP doesn't go as far as it used to. Although I'm not sure if their solution (printing more money) is a good one lol
Yeah, people are PEEVED over the NC UC stuff.
Especially now that the prices form them have been revealed.....
Also great job hosting!
I do have a Faerie Zafara
Neogoals are now just one paycheck away.. How sad... Until they realize they don't like it anymore.. Which will be even more sad. Good game, and goodbye Neopets. 👋 Who needs all of this drama anyways... No one will ever be happy. It's all just chaos.
Love your channel
I hope it's $100 just to make everyone even more mad haha
You can just turn a blue pet fae or grey with money now :/
its weird to me that people think it makes "real" UCs indistinguishable from new ones. like, the pets keep their age...? you'll still be able to tell which ones are originals.
you literally spoke my mind!!!! can’t wait to see what you think of the NCUCs when they drop 🫶🏻
I don't know what a UC pet is but thank you for plugging for NQ3 Kevin, you the best 🫡
UC stands for 'unconverted' and it's talking about the old pet art before they were mostly all 'converted' in order to allow the pets to wear clothing :3
