Seems like Renner and Jircniv both think of Ainz as a super genius because they're projecting on to him. They are so used to thinking in terms of political intrigue and schemes that the only way they can make sense of Ainz is to assume he's like them, only more. The idea that someone could outmaneuver them by COMPLETE ACCIDENT is unfathomable to them.
There is no reason a moron (or drone in this case) could ever out play genuine genius. "Real genius" didn't sound right, "genuine genius" doesn't look right, the rules of speech and text in English are nonsense and dealing with them is no fun without the puns and alliteration.
That also explains why Ainz saw straight through Phillip's sheer stupidity when Demiurge, Albedo and Renner believed there might be something more to his actions they were messing, yet Ainz knew it for what it is purely through the law of "Takes one to know one."

I think the Overlord series is amazing in that Ains makes himself appear to be an omniscient, omnipotent and evil Overlord so that the greatest minds of the New World such as Renner and Jircnev are unable to see through the act is somehow done entirely by accident by a reasonably intelligent salary man who has no idea what he's doing. It's a fine line that must be followed because if Ains is too stupid then it makes the Guardians and the smart people of the New World look even dumber in comparison and if he's too smart it removes the dramatic irony and the humor of Ains' situation and the series handles that line brilliantly.

Imo, the one thing that allow Ains' "fake it till you make it" to be better than any other protagonist of similar position is thank to his Undead state suppressing his emotions. In other shows, the role player eventually broke their facade or make other questioning them because they are being strange. While Overlord does do those 'internally screaming' scenes for the gag, the occasional cold, brutal decisions he made due to his suppressed emotion SELL it. In any other case, even if the protag is playing the villain they would still hesitate for a bit while Ains casually kill everyone because the action is logical.

It seems that throughout volume 14 there is quite a palpable strain on Ainz. It really felt like the whole affair had taken him to the furthest limit yet in his "fake it until you make it" approach. After Philip pretty much threw a monkey wrench into Demi and Albedo's plan , Ainz was so close to telling them that he really didn't a clue on what was going on and didn't know what to actually do. He chickened out when he realized that would only make things even worse. It really was the first time Ainz ,Demi and Albedo had to together come up with a plan on the spot, all because of some foolish noble (which kinda shows they are fallible to some degree). Ainz had to actually pay attention to Demi and Albedo's complex and convoluted plans and felt even more way over his head than usual. The volume also showed even more that Ainz's experience with inner company politics and time as guild master in the real world is a big reason how he manages to keep everything together. The only thing that Ainz is pretty much unmatched on is combat strategy.
Zanac did the best he could but sadly there was never any possibility of success, no one could have saved Re-Estize because its corruption and internal intrigue doomed it to fail. Even without Ainz and Nazarick, the state would have collapsed eventually. The Empire and Slane Theocracy were disgusted by the rotting carcass that Re-Estize had become, and welcomed its destruction though not without reservations as now Nazarick's overwhelming power is made abundantly clear and absolutely no nation will dare challenge him.

Renner's relationship with Ainz Ooal Gown is simple. Demiurge took a liking to her strikingly sinister personality, and found that she has one crutch: Clym (spelling, maybe.) Demiurge is working to bring Renner in to Nazarik because she is the *one* human he has found of which he has any shred of respect for, because not only is she sinister and very un-humanlike in her processes, but she is brilliant... VERY brilliant. Eventually, Renner is offered a place in Nazarik, and she agrees on the chance that she and Clym can be together *forever.* Clym is hesitant, but eventually he agrees by whatever means he does, and they are both essentially reincarnated in to Nazarik. The end. Renner is now Ainz's underling.

Pandora's actor is one of the three smartest people in Nazarick, alongside Albedo and Demiurge. Not only that, but Dopplegangers have the ability to read people's minds, so they can get a better understanding of how to impersonate others. Ainz is lucky he decided to play an undead, who are immune to such an ability, or else Pandora's Actor would have figured him out.
@@Nyrufa there's a theory that PA (or Dopplegangers in general) could bypass such immunity since "immunity" is more of a resistance in Yggdrasil, that's why he's acting as he does in front of Ainz. If Dopplegangers should be capable of completely mimicking even undead, then they should also know the personality etc. of the one they're mimicking. Although this "bypass" should be limited to anyone they copied or by level difference as Nabe would have been able to do that to Ainz as well if there's no limit.

She saw which way the wind was blowing and rather then be swept away by the hurricane she chose a path that ensured her survival and the fulfillment of what she wants most.
Come to think of it, in volume 12 Demiurge mused to himself how he was unable to account for or predict the movements of idiots, but his master (Ainz) is the only person he could possibly think of brilliant enough to accurately predict and interpret the movements and actions of idiots and properly account for them. It's kinda neat how that turned out to be foreshadowing for the beginning of the very next story arc.
@@Noval5s Sorry about it taking a while to respond to this. I believe it was chapter 1. That said, Overloard books have only 4 chapters, so that doesn't narrow it down much. It was in a conversation where Demiurge was in his Jaldoboth disguise and was leading the demi-humans to attack the holy nation's boarder wall. I believe it was somewhere late in the scene after already scoring his victory over the humans.
Ainz is good at putting plans together, it was his expertise within the guild, however, during his time in Yggdrasil, he had 40 other people to rely on for information when he was putting his plans together, and typically he was okay with them interjecting if necessary (like Bukubukuchagama essentially becoming the commander during party combat). While you could assume there is some luck involved with how his plans are going so far, especially since he admits himself that he isn't sure what he is actually doing, he is still capable of putting a plan together on the spot that generally ends in his favor, if not, at the very least, benefits him in some way. His skill, as a player, was combat expertise, primarily to counter the weakness of his class and spells, as they typically weren't good for PvP and so required him to plan ahead when going into combat. Outside of that, he can put together plans for relatively soon events, or even during the event, but he clearly has no plans that exceed past a generic "this is kind of what I want to do for a hundred years, maybe."

I would like to point out that Renners at the start of book 14 didnt intend to help kill cca 8.000.000 people and was even making "cant we just become vassal or something?" reminders. Only after Ainz starts "exactly" Demiurge and Albedo on one of his "as expected" admirations, plan of "whip" (let us face it, it is candy or axe, not candy or whip) comes into play. She remarks that she was blind-sighted 2 times. First time when "whip" comes into play and second time when Ainz comes to accept Climb personally, effectively nullifying her favours on Ainz's court. First plan was to get everything she gets anyway, just not have her country annihilated in the process. Second makes her work way harder than she originally intended once she gets her reward.
While I don’t think Ainz is a genius, he also is not dumb. He is incredibly knowledgeable when in comes to the mechanics of the game. While deep schemes and political intrigue might not be his area of expertise, he knows this and wisely lets people with a better understanding handle such matters. The same kinda of situation would have arisen if you had the best warrior in a country suddenly made king.
So what happens when Blue Rose finds out? Will Climb be forded you kill them in a powerful demon form? That’s what I think. Then Climb will be officially broken.
Well Climb is already so manipulated by Renner, that he will do anything for her, so it could be that he is forced to fight blue roses, but I doubt that renner would risk climbs life, since she already has what she wants. Also i doubt that Nazarick would invest the time and effort to make climb as strong as an adamantite adventurer, the fallen seed alone is not enough.

Renner's character arc has come to a close. I don't think Climb and Renner will play a part in the upcoming releases. With few volumes left to wrap-up the story, I think Blue Rose is likely to be defeated by Entoma or at least fight with Ainz and a guardian vs PDL + Bluerose. Maybe other dragon lords will also get involved.
Given how Philip Dayton L'Eyre Montserrat was so dumb no one notices is a nice reflection that Ainz actually does something different from just plain luck, he is putting in the effort and actually becomes the overlord that he is portraying without it even realizing. If I remember correctly he even said himself that he is actually loosing his humanity, so unknowingly he's saying he will adapt more and more traits of his class/race. I don't think this is something which happens right away but his progress player mind, his changing personality, his acting skills and that of pandoras actor solidify his reign over nazarick and probably the entire world, and that is actually what happens from volume 1-14 as of now. In addition, I don't think Demiurge and Albedo actually are wrong in praising him that much, I have a feeling he's just not aware that he actually does the things they interpret upon him. He often does not remember what he actually said, but that does not change on what he said and what that causes.
I agree but it helps that ainz is dumb because he can see through idiots like philip and he can understand average people like zanac and it only ends up further enhancing his image in the npcs mind because they think he's so divinely smart that he can even tell what idiots who don't/can't plan are doing.

It's fun that the more we learn about Renner and her relationship to Nazarik the more certain actions make sense. The killing of Barbro by Lupusregina and her line that he's unnecessary to Ainz's plans after he explains how valuable he is as a hostage for example. Ainz never kills for no reason and his political ambitions could be hurt by killing the next in line to the throne but he ordered it anyway. Renner needed Barbro out the way so her other brother would be heir to the throne as he's much less competent and easier to manipulate, with him in place all she had to do was convince him that he could gain her favour by giving her what she wants and that she's his pawn as long as he dangles that carrot. None of this would have been possible with Barbro as he was a traditionalist and much harder to manipulate than her other brother who was already manipulated by the nobility. Barbro wanted to use her popularity by selling her off for his own gain and hated Climb being around as he's a commoner. Renner will happily kill anyone that gets in the way of her living out her fantasies about Climb.
But Zanac WAS the more competent brother. Barbro wanted to play absolute ruler, like Jircniv in a country that it was totally impossible, and would probably end in bloody civil war. All while he had absolutely none of his merits and virtues. He was incompetent, spoiled, hotheaded vindictive asshole. Zanac wanted to play the cards he was dealt in the best way he could. He was reasonable and intelligent, and while not genius like Renner, he was also not a raging lunatic like both of his siblings. He was just, and had the most important quality of any ruler: the ability to lean on others and use the strenght and wisdom of those around him in areas he lacked. All while not looking weak. Heck, Maruyama even confirmed that if Barbro was killed EARLIER, meaning Zanac was designated successor with powers that come with it, and Nazaric was not a problem(big leap, i know), Zanac together with Renner, Raeven and Stronoff would win the Kingdom-Empire war and his rule would strenghten the kingdom. Which by the point of Ainz arrival was basically falling apart already.
If any of the other guardians knew just how imbalanced the affection ratio between Mare vs. Literally Everyone Else was, Nazarick might break then and there. Ainz' one big mistake wasn't not stopping the roller coaster before it got out of control, not accidentally mentioning world domination in front of Demiurge, and not rewriting Albedo's settings, it was only headpatting and cuddling Mare. An acceptable mistake that anyone could easily make, but a grievous one all the same. Cocytus can't even live with himself anymore, four arms, FOUR to hug with, and not even a back pat from Ainz. Poor guy couldn't even get someone to scrub him in the bath. People don't even tell Gargantua when there's an office party anymore. She's coming apart, too. And Nigredo can't even get screentime in the anime. NEURONIST got screentime. NEURONIST.

to be fair being used by the sorcerer kingdom for your skills, in particular your administration and manipulation skills is one of the better ways to come under their banner. if you were brought in because of your military might you can guarantee that over the years that power will dwindle and you will be replaced. if you had physical traits they found interesting you would quite possibly be used as an experiment and so on. By being used for her mind Renner is in a very safe situation as the likelihood of another person with her skillset and pre-established connections coming along to replace her is extremely low (and since she seeks immortality along with climb it is highly likely that once that happens she would most likely be moved to a different area of the great tomb rather than fed to the roaches as Ainz would not waste such an investment) not to mention that her loyalty would never be in doubt, though she would never be dogmatically loyal to Ainz she would forever recognise him as the one making her new life with climb possible.
One of things that makes the series interesting is that it highlights the fact that effective leaders are rarely these high IQ masterminds. Instead, they tend to be people who have enough intelligence to surround themselves with truly intelligent and talented individuals. They give the general goal and then allow their subordinates to use their talents to create an effective solution with some minor changes and guidance. It's rarely the case that the actual leader is some uber genius. It's a far more cooperative setup among this tight group of highly capable people.

It is possible that his old personality could mix with the new personality resulting in changes with some traces of his old self. On a side note, I wasn't even aware a new novel was out. This is a pleasant surprise. I suppose that if what happens when you leave an anime series for a while to wait for new things to happen.
Ainz' personality hasn't really been changing though. It's been pretty consistent from day 1 with him only really caring about people he knows personally, with Nazarick denizens taking priority. He still doesn't personally come up with horrible actions and if left to his own devices he'd be pretty benign no matter how much time passes, but he's amoral due to his ace making him apathetic to other races plus not being allowed to feel things too strongly. Even then, he's admitted to himself that he's seen dead bodies lining the streets in reality before and didn't bat an eye so that's actually been the way he is even when human. As Ainz once said, without Nazarick he'd likely just spend his days traveling and enjoying a journey, which the what if novel pretty much proves he was right.

It seems as the novel goes on longer his strong emotions that get suppressed are happening less and less since he's getting used to not feeling any sort of strong emotion. He's even been refering to himself as his former human selfs name less and less and is just focusing on becoming the "Sorcerer king".

The side novel had Ainz/Momonga traveling for 100 years and he wasn't any more cruel after time passed so it's definitely the company he keeps shaping his normalcy more than it is his race.
@@OsnosisBones that's not a "side novel". A side novel is a serialization that runs somewhat parallel to the main serialization story. What your talking about is the web novel(or the short story he made of overlord with new concept), which even though it's by the same author, it's not representative of the main serialized series that's been edited professionally. Let me elaborate what I'm trying to say, I do not think the other two are story versions should be seen as completely different series, but there's too many differences between them to apply the logic from those series onto the main serialization of overlord (light novel)

When Renner took her mask off I genuinely screamed inside of pure terror. I understand she was obsessive but never thought she was was so manipulative even to the point of hiding her true nature from since she was a child. I even thought that her brother was probably exaggerating but no she was as twisted as he said.
Why so many people believe that she will betray Nazarick? It will be very out of character IMO She doesn't care about being in charge nor about World domination, if she did she would've became the queen on the Kingdom a while ago. Before Ainz arrived her plan was only to live with Climb on a distant land, and that was it, I don't see how that has changed.
Volume 14 will sure be a Banger in the anime, further more I'm more surprised the author actually thought Ainz plans are kinda out of control so he instead made a short conversation of Nigredo and pestoniya that Ainz will just kill 90% of the population and it's just 90% not much, made me laugh while reading it.
You know it's BS when in the same episode its confirmed the refugees leaving the kingdom are "dissapearing" lol only the first 10% survive the rest die lol.
When I read that part, I did feel that there was something off with Ainz. Like his Overlord Supreme Being aura wasn't present and even Albedo's responses were that way. I couldn't tell what it was, just that the overwhelming aura was missing. At first I thought the author was just lazy or maybe the translation was off but when Ainz knelt before Ainz, my eyes widened as I collapsed like a puppet whose strings had been cut. I was really surprised.
Renner's refusal to say anything when her brother asked her if he (Ainz) was better than her shows that she doesn't actually think he is that smart. She knew she was followed by a shadow demon, and couldn't say what she actually thought. She can see herself and Climb in Albedo and Ainz's relationship, and can see that Albedo is a fanatic, and can't see anything bad about Ainz. Since she and Ainz have never even spoken to each other before, she doesn't even put him in her eyes as a rival intellectual. Ainz showing up to put on her play in the Capitol put her in Albedo's bad books, and pissed her off so she thinks Ainz did that deliberately to sow mistrust between the two of them. She thinks Ainz is scared of her as a more competent leader than other floor guardians, and did that as a way to put her in her place (Actually, I think he did it just cause he was bored from not fighting PDL/Riku). All she wants (at face value, but I believe this is just the start of her plan) is to be in Nazarik with Climb, but I think she wants Albedo's position, or to have some way to input her decisions to Ainz as far as running the Country go. Then her suggestions will be taken into consideration and she can destablize Nazarik from within, leading to her controlling everyone in the end. This plan will ultimately fail, but I firmly believe that's her endgame. Secretly controlling Nazarik from the background, the way she controlled The Kingdom and the Empire.
When i first listened to the conversation between Albedo and Renner, i thought that Renner realized Ainz was a genius because even she saw that Ainz had done some highly impressive things without even needing to do much of any strong arming: The events of Jaldobaoth's invasion during the raids would have shown that Nazarik had it's eyes on her and that they were interested in her abilities and in conquest. With her meeting Demiurge allowing her to have an intellectual conversation with someone of her caliber... Then there's the Massacre where in one spell Ainz managed to slaughter an army, terrify all other nations, establish his own country, paralyze any schemes of the nearby nations for a time due to the horrific events, and pacify his city by using his alter ego in one fell swoop... Then she met another aide to Ainz who also rivaled her intellect in Albedo, and even though she clearly saw that Albedo (and likely also Demiurge) was a fanatic and said nothing but praises about Ainz, she also would have realized that Albedo knew Renner was flattering her future superior by wishing to know more about the Sorcerer King thus making it obvious Renner was trying to pry in to see just what Ainz was like. Following that she would come to hear how Ainz would personally make the empire wish for vassalization within only going to the capitol for a few days. Plus there's the plan to use undead workers that would be spread out across Ainz's nation as well as eventually the Empire meaning any revolt could be slaughtered along with requiring the people to rely on the undead workers for cheaper more effective work... And when the Holy Kingdom was under siege she would have known, or guessed, that everything was progressing as Ainz had wished. From the demi-humans invading, the North's conquering and South's resistance, the Paladin's search for aide, Ainz going to aide the Holy kingdom, Ainz's fake death would likely have been unthinkable to her as an action to do as it could have had the Theocracy try something, the conquest of the Abllion hills, and the creation of a cult that worships him as *JUSTICE* being the peak ... Finally there was Ainz's little act of playing as an *"Evil Tyrant"* to Climb as so Renner's image wouldn't be damaged. She would have realized that once Ainz did that it was him just doing it to let her know that he was playing along to flatter her and force her to work harder or else his little act will become real and she won't be faking the second time around. After everything's said and done, Renner's intellect being above Demiurge and Albedo is likely only due to her being 15?16?17? While the guardians are literally only a few years old at best (seeing as Ainz has been in the new world for maybe 2 and a half-ish years as of Vol 14), meaning her advantage of intellect is minuscule to both the readers and the guardians as she only has a few years on them making her barely smarter than them, along with her specialty of governance being her leg up on the hyper geniuses of Albedo and Demiurge the two Ultimate General and Bureaucrat. Although, as time goes on they will increase their skills in those fields more meaning her abilities of governance will become meaningless forcing her administrative abilities to be her only good quality for keeping her around as Albedo's secretary... That's just how i saw everything, but after reading your thing it made me reconsider how the situation could have been interpreted since it does make sense for Renner to try and manipulate the Sorcerer's Kingdom like her old nation, but she also should/would have known Demiurge and Albedo were testing her abilities meaning they likely knew she'd try to do that as well as knowing Ainz likely knew which would terrify her since the only reason she wasn't thrown away was because she had some value allowing for her request and the subsequent act of Ainz vs Climb to occur

I'll have to re-read now with those thoughts in mind, see what I can pull up. I agree that she did know that Demiurge and Albedo were testing her, from her saying she wanted to hold back some of her skills from them so she could impress them further after indoctrination, and was panicked that she had to play all her cards when Ainz showed up for the play. As an actress who is also a genius, she can essentially fool anyone dumber than herself into believing her. She never tried it on Albedo and Demiurge, knowing they would see through her anyways, (like Jircniv intuits) but keeping how skillful she is at it hidden, so she could hold it as a trump card against anyone (besides those two) when needed to show herself as a useful subordinate, keeping her in their good graces... I would have loved to read how the conversation in the Throne room played out while Climb was gone hiding the crown, hope the Anime will show a bit but I doubt it.

Then Ainz would just tell Renner to get it over with and Climb would appear right after Renner killed her father with him looking back at her with a dark joyful smile as he falls into his blood puddle...
I don't think that Renner thinks that she can control Nazarik from the shadows. It is true that Ainz isn't as smart when compared to the three geniuses (D+A+R), but we are only privy to this information as readers. Thinking from the perspective of a characters, Ainz was able to subjugate the Empire in a matter of days through psychological pressure, even Demiurge was in awe of how efficiently and quick his master was able to do this. Not only does this feat prove that he is intelligent and a master manipulator, he also has no facial expressions and has emotional suppression so no one can really pick up on small queues if he is having issues. Besides not being able to get a read on him, Ainz is supported by Albedo and Demiurge, two geniuses who can compete with Renner intellectually, and both are aware of her intellect, making them wary of her. At best, she would stay loyal to Nazarik while creating a good and comfy position for herself in the future rather than actually trying to control Nazarik from the shadows.
We all know at the end of Disney films, the heroine is singing when she get´s together with her prince after all the good deeds,.. But here we are speaking about a women who sacrificed the life of 100.000 of her own people just to get a boy as her puppy. In her case being smarter was actually detrimental in regards to how to deal with ainz jircniv still has superior standing with Ainz which is the key thing that manners whereas renner has standing with cray cray demi and albedo that could turn on her if push comes to shove.

The only thing I felt bad about all of this is the civilians who had no chance. It was the nobles and royalty that screwed up. I love the development of climb characters I want so badly to turn into a strange paled fighting for justice but with the body of a imp just imagining climb in is new form way stronger than before absolutely destroying an army of slane theocracy for justice or the princess is so cool. A War is a war, the only concern to win and to do that you need every advantages you can get. A massacre is another factor as it reduces morale in times of combat. So yes no matter how one sided it may be a War will always be a war, the only choice is win or lose.

Late reply. From the story, I gather he isn't chained up. He is though like her changed and decided to believe in the nice lie about his beloved Renner. She fed him a BS story and he took it as he had no one else now and just accepted his fate. The whole room taking much time is more implying a constant physical relationship now... Climb is tasked with small duties like all Nazarick residents as well to Renner. Just when they aren't needed she has her fun time with him. Her broken puppy that accepts her smile even with her true expression now... So still a sad fate for Climb, but he also decided to accept it... It has been interesting if he stayed dead because of how resurrection requires the deceased to want to return.

Seems like Renner and Jircniv both think of Ainz as a super genius because they're projecting on to him. They are so used to thinking in terms of political intrigue and schemes that the only way they can make sense of Ainz is to assume he's like them, only more. The idea that someone could outmaneuver them by COMPLETE ACCIDENT is unfathomable to them.
There is no reason a moron (or drone in this case) could ever out play genuine genius.

I've actually entertained this idea.
Demiurge may well be pushing the evil agenda of Nazerick, knowing that Ainz is pretty much pressured into doing whatever he wants.
I think the Overlord series is amazing in that Ains makes himself appear to be an omniscient, omnipotent and evil Overlord so that the greatest minds of the New World such as Renner and Jircnev are unable to see through the act is somehow done entirely by accident by a reasonably intelligent salary man who has no idea what he's doing.
It's a fine line that must be followed because if Ains is too stupid then it makes the Guardians and the smart people of the New World look even dumber in comparison and if he's too smart it removes the dramatic irony and the humor of Ains' situation and the series handles that line brilliantly.

Imo, the one thing that allow Ains' "fake it till you make it" to be better than any other protagonist of similar position is thank to his Undead state suppressing his emotions.
In other shows, the role player eventually broke their facade or make other questioning them because they are being strange. While Overlord does do those 'internally screaming' scenes for the gag, the occasional cold, brutal decisions he made due to his suppressed emotion SELL it. In any other case, even if the protag is playing the villain they would still hesitate for a bit while Ains casually kill everyone because the action is logical.

It seems that throughout volume 14 there is quite a palpable strain on Ainz. It really felt like the whole affair had taken him to the furthest limit yet in his "fake it until you make it" approach. After Philip pretty much threw a monkey wrench into Demi and Albedo's plan , Ainz was so close to telling them that he really didn't a clue on what was going on and didn't know what to actually do. He chickened out when he realized that would only make things even worse. It really was the first time Ainz ,Demi and Albedo had to together come up with a plan on the spot, all because of some foolish noble (which kinda shows they are fallible to some degree). Ainz had to actually pay attention to Demi and Albedo's complex and convoluted plans and felt even more way over his head than usual.
The volume also showed even more that Ainz's experience with inner company politics and time as guild master in the real world is a big reason how he manages to keep everything together. The only thing that Ainz is pretty much unmatched on is combat strategy.

The Empire and Slane Theocracy were disgusted by the rotting carcass that Re-Estize had become, and welcomed its destruction though not without reservations as now Nazarick's overwhelming power is made abundantly clear and absolutely no nation will dare challenge him.

Although this "bypass" should be limited to anyone they copied or by level difference as Nabe would have been able to do that to Ainz as well if there's no limit.

I wouldn’t quite say that renner was in control of both sides of the war- regardless of her assistance nazerick would’ve conquered the kingdom renner assisting them is more akin to not going down w the titanic
She saw which way the wind was blowing and rather then be swept away by the hurricane she chose a path that ensured her survival and the fulfillment of what she wants most.
It was lipservice nothing more albedo and demiurge would come up with another plan without her.
Come to think of it, in volume 12 Demiurge mused to himself how he was unable to account for or predict the movements of idiots, but his master (Ainz) is the only person he could possibly think of brilliant enough to accurately predict and interpret the movements and actions of idiots and properly account for them. It's kinda neat how that turned out to be foreshadowing for the beginning of the very next story arc.

@@Noval5s Sorry about it taking a while to respond to this. I believe it was chapter 1. That said, Overloard books have only 4 chapters, so that doesn't narrow it down much. It was in a conversation where Demiurge was in his Jaldoboth disguise and was leading the demi-humans to attack the holy nation's boarder wall. I believe it was somewhere late in the scene after already scoring his victory over the humans.
Ainz is good at putting plans together, it was his expertise within the guild, however, during his time in Yggdrasil, he had 40 other people to rely on for information when he was putting his plans together, and typically he was okay with them interjecting if necessary (like Bukubukuchagama essentially becoming the commander during party combat). While you could assume there is some luck involved with how his plans are going so far, especially since he admits himself that he isn't sure what he is actually doing, he is still capable of putting a plan together on the spot that generally ends in his favor, if not, at the very least, benefits him in some way. His skill, as a player, was combat expertise, primarily to counter the weakness of his class and spells, as they typically weren't good for PvP and so required him to plan ahead when going into combat. Outside of that, he can put together plans for relatively soon events, or even during the event, but he clearly has no plans that exceed past a generic "this is kind of what I want to do for a hundred years, maybe."

I would like to point out that Renners at the start of book 14 didnt intend to help kill cca 8.000.000 people and was even making "cant we just become vassal or something?" reminders. Only after Ainz starts "exactly" Demiurge and Albedo on one of his "as expected" admirations, plan of "whip" (let us face it, it is candy or axe, not candy or whip) comes into play. She remarks that she was blind-sighted 2 times. First time when "whip" comes into play and second time when Ainz comes to accept Climb personally, effectively nullifying her favours on Ainz's court. First plan was to get everything she gets anyway, just not have her country annihilated in the process. Second makes her work way harder than she originally intended once she gets her reward.

While I don’t think Ainz is a genius, he also is not dumb. He is incredibly knowledgeable when in comes to the mechanics of the game. While deep schemes and political intrigue might not be his area of expertise, he knows this and wisely lets people with a better understanding handle such matters. Renner's character arc has come to a close. I don't think Climb and Renner will play a part in the upcoming releases. With few volumes left to wrap-up the story, I think Blue Rose is likely to be defeated by Entoma or at least fight with Ainz and a guardian vs PDL + Bluerose. Maybe other dragon lords will also get involved.

Given how Philip Dayton L'Eyre Montserrat was so dumb no one notices is a nice reflection that Ainz actually does something different from just plain luck, he is putting in the effort and actually becomes the overlord that he is portraying without it even realizing. If I remember correctly he even said himself that he is actually loosing his humanity, so unknowingly he's saying he will adapt more and more traits of his class/race. I don't think this is something which happens right away but his progress player mind, his changing personality, his acting skills and that of pandoras actor solidify his reign over nazarick and probably the entire world, and that is actually what happens from volume 1-14 as of now.
In addition, I don't think Demiurge and Albedo actually are wrong in praising him that much, I have a feeling he's just not aware that he actually does the things they interpret upon him. He often does not remember what he actually said, but that does not change on what he said and what that causes.
I agree but it helps that ainz is dumb because he can see through idiots like philip and he can understand average people like zanac and it only ends up further enhancing his image in the npcs mind because they think he's so divinely smart that he can even tell what idiots who don't/can't plan are doing.

It's fun that the more we learn about Renner and her relationship to Nazarik the more certain actions make sense. The killing of Barbro by Lupusregina and her line that he's unnecessary to Ainz's plans after he explains how valuable he is as a hostage for example. Ainz never kills for no reason and his political ambitions could be hurt by killing the next in line to the throne but he ordered it anyway. Renner needed Barbro out the way so her other brother would be heir to the throne as he's much less competent and easier to manipulate, with him in place all she had to do was convince him that he could gain her favour by giving her what she wants and that she's his pawn as long as he dangles that carrot.
None of this would have been possible with Barbro as he was a traditionalist and much harder to manipulate than her other brother who was already manipulated by the nobility. Barbro wanted to use her popularity by selling her off for his own gain and hated Climb being around as he's a commoner. Renner will happily kill anyone that gets in the way of her living out her fantasies about Climb.
But Zanac WAS the more competent brother. Barbro wanted to play absolute ruler, like Jircniv in a country that it was totally impossible, and would probably end in bloody civil war. All while he had absolutely none of his merits and virtues. He was incompetent, spoiled, hotheaded vindictive asshole. Zanac wanted to play the cards he was dealt in the best way he could. He was reasonable and intelligent, and while not genius like Renner, he was also not a raging lunatic like both of his siblings. He was just, and had the most important quality of any ruler: the ability to lean on others and use the strenght and wisdom of those around him in areas he lacked. All while not looking weak.
Heck, Maruyama even confirmed that if Barbro was killed EARLIER, meaning Zanac was designated successor with powers that come with it, and Nazaric was not a problem(big leap, i know), Zanac together with Renner, Raeven and Stronoff would win the Kingdom-Empire war and his rule would strenghten the kingdom. Which by the point of Ainz arrival was basically falling apart already.

Poor guy couldn't even get someone to scrub him in the bath. People don't even tell Gargantua when there's an office party anymore. She's coming apart, too. And Nigredo can't even get screentime in the anime. NEURONIST got screentime. NEURONIST.

to be fair being used by the sorcerer kingdom for your skills, in particular your administration and manipulation skills is one of the better ways to come under their banner.
if you were brought in because of your military might you can guarantee that over the years that power will dwindle and you will be replaced.
if you had physical traits they found interesting you would quite possibly be used as an experiment and so on.
By being used for her mind Renner is in a very safe situation as the likelihood of another person with her skillset and pre-established connections coming along to replace her is extremely low (and since she seeks immortality along with climb it is highly likely that once that happens she would most likely be moved to a different area of the great tomb rather than fed to the roaches as Ainz would not waste such an investment)
not to mention that her loyalty would never be in doubt, though she would never be dogmatically loyal to Ainz she would forever recognise him as the one making her new life with climb possible.
One of things that makes the series interesting is that it highlights the fact that effective leaders are rarely these high IQ masterminds. Instead, they tend to be people who have enough intelligence to surround themselves with truly intelligent and talented individuals. They give the general goal and then allow their subordinates to use their talents to create an effective solution with some minor changes and guidance. It's rarely the case that the actual leader is some uber genius. It's a far more cooperative setup among this tight group of highly capable people.

It is possible that his old personality could mix with the new personality resulting in changes with some traces of his old self. On a side note, I wasn't even aware a new novel was out. This is a pleasant surprise. I suppose that if what happens when you leave an anime series for a while to wait for new things to happen.
Ainz' personality hasn't really been changing though. It's been pretty consistent from day 1 with him only really caring about people he knows personally, with Nazarick denizens taking priority. He still doesn't personally come up with horrible actions and if left to his own devices he'd be pretty benign no matter how much time passes, but he's amoral due to his ace making him apathetic to other races plus not being allowed to feel things too strongly.
Even then, he's admitted to himself that he's seen dead bodies lining the streets in reality before and didn't bat an eye so that's actually been the way he is even when human. As Ainz once said, without Nazarick he'd likely just spend his days traveling and enjoying a journey, which the what if novel pretty much proves he was right.

It seems as the novel goes on longer his strong emotions that get suppressed are happening less and less since he's getting used to not feeling any sort of strong emotion. He's even been refering to himself as his former human selfs name less and less and is just focusing on becoming the "Sorcerer king".

That would be more due to desensitization and him just growing used to his role though, not a result of him no longer being human. The side novel had Ainz/Momonga traveling for 100 years and he wasn't any more cruel after time passed so it's definitely the company he keeps shaping his normalcy more than it is his race.

What your talking about is the web novel(or the short story he made of overlord with new concept), which even though it's by the same author, it's not representative of the main serialized series that's been edited professionally.
Let me elaborate what I'm trying to say, I do not think the other two are story versions should be seen as completely different series, but there's too many differences between them to apply the logic from those series onto the main serialization of overlord (light novel)

Volume 14 will sure be a Banger in the anime, further more I'm more surprised the author actually thought Ainz plans are kinda out of control so he instead made a short conversation of Nigredo and pestoniya that Ainz will just kill 90% of the population and it's just 90% not much, made me laugh while reading it.
You know it's BS when in the same episode its confirmed the refugees leaving the kingdom are "dissapearing" lol only the first 10% survive the rest die lol.
I enjoyed the fight wit Pandora’s Actor and the Platinum Dragon Lord, it was pretty obvious but I was still caught off guard...
When I read that part, I did feel that there was something off with Ainz. Like his Overlord Supreme Being aura wasn't present and even Albedo's responses were that way. I couldn't tell what it was, just that the overwhelming aura was missing. At first I thought the author was just lazy or maybe the translation was off but when Ainz knelt before Ainz, my eyes widened as I collapsed like a puppet whose strings had been cut. I was really surprised.

It is funny how both Ains and Renner scares each other
Renner's refusal to say anything when her brother asked her if he (Ainz) was better than her shows that she doesn't actually think he is that smart. She knew she was followed by a shadow demon, and couldn't say what she actually thought. She can see herself and Climb in Albedo and Ainz's relationship, and can see that Albedo is a fanatic, and can't see anything bad about Ainz. Since she and Ainz have never even spoken to each other before, she doesn't even put him in her eyes as a rival intellectual. Ainz showing up to put on her play in the Capitol put her in Albedo's bad books, and pissed her off so she thinks Ainz did that deliberately to sow mistrust between the two of them. She thinks Ainz is scared of her as a more competent leader than other floor guardians, and did that as a way to put her in her place (Actually, I think he did it just cause he was bored from not fighting PDL/Riku). All she wants (at face value, but I believe this is just the start of her plan) is to be in Nazarik with Climb, but I think she wants Albedo's position, or to have some way to input her decisions to Ainz as far as running the Country go. Then her suggestions will be taken into consideration and she can destablize Nazarik from within, leading to her controlling everyone in the end. This plan will ultimately fail, but I firmly believe that's her endgame. Secretly controlling Nazarik from the background, the way she controlled The Kingdom and the Empire.
When i first listened to the conversation between Albedo and Renner, i thought that Renner realized Ainz was a genius because even she saw that Ainz had done some highly impressive things without even needing to do much of any strong arming:
The events of Jaldobaoth's invasion during the raids would have shown that Nazarik had it's eyes on her and that they were interested in her abilities and in conquest. With her meeting Demiurge allowing her to have an intellectual conversation with someone of her caliber...
Then there's the Massacre where in one spell Ainz managed to slaughter an army, terrify all other nations, establish his own country, paralyze any schemes of the nearby nations for a time due to the horrific events, and pacify his city by using his alter ego in one fell swoop...
Then she met another aide to Ainz who also rivaled her intellect in Albedo, and even though she clearly saw that Albedo (and likely also Demiurge) was a fanatic and said nothing but praises about Ainz, she also would have realized that Albedo knew Renner was flattering her future superior by wishing to know more about the Sorcerer King thus making it obvious Renner was trying to pry in to see just what Ainz was like. Following that she would come to hear how Ainz would personally make the empire wish for vassalization within only going to the capitol for a few days. Plus there's the plan to use undead workers that would be spread out across Ainz's nation as well as eventually the Empire meaning any revolt could be slaughtered along with requiring the people to rely on the undead workers for cheaper more effective work...
And when the Holy Kingdom was under siege she would have known, or guessed, that everything was progressing as Ainz had wished. From the demi-humans invading, the North's conquering and South's resistance, the Paladin's search for aide, Ainz going to aide the Holy kingdom, Ainz's fake death would likely have been unthinkable to her as an action to do as it could have had the Theocracy try something, the conquest of the Abllion hills, and the creation of a cult that worships him as *JUSTICE* being the peak ...
Finally there was Ainz's little act of playing as an *"Evil Tyrant"* to Climb as so Renner's image wouldn't be damaged. She would have realized that once Ainz did that it was him just doing it to let her know that he was playing along to flatter her and force her to work harder or else his little act will become real and she won't be faking the second time around.
After everything's said and done, Renner's intellect being above Demiurge and Albedo is likely only due to her being 15?16?17? While the guardians are literally only a few years old at best (seeing as Ainz has been in the new world for maybe 2 and a half-ish years as of Vol 14), meaning her advantage of intellect is minuscule to both the readers and the guardians as she only has a few years on them making her barely smarter than them, along with her specialty of governance being her leg up on the hyper geniuses of Albedo and Demiurge the two Ultimate General and Bureaucrat. Although, as time goes on they will increase their skills in those fields more meaning her abilities of governance will become meaningless forcing her administrative abilities to be her only good quality for keeping her around as Albedo's secretary...
That's just how i saw everything, but after reading your thing it made me reconsider how the situation could have been interpreted since it does make sense for Renner to try and manipulate the Sorcerer's Kingdom like her old nation, but she also should/would have known Demiurge and Albedo were testing her abilities meaning they likely knew she'd try to do that as well as knowing Ainz likely knew which would terrify her since the only reason she wasn't thrown away was because she had some value allowing for her request and the subsequent act of Ainz vs Climb to occur

I agree that she did know that Demiurge and Albedo were testing her, from her saying she wanted to hold back some of her skills from them so she could impress them further after indoctrination, and was panicked that she had to play all her cards when Ainz showed up for the play. As an actress who is also a genius, she can essentially fool anyone dumber than herself into believing her. She never tried it on Albedo and Demiurge, knowing they would see through her anyways, (like Jircniv intuits) but keeping how skillful she is at it hidden, so she could hold it as a trump card against anyone (besides those two) when needed to show herself as a useful subordinate, keeping her in their good graces... I would have loved to read how the conversation in the Throne room played out while Climb was gone hiding the crown, hope the Anime will show a bit but I doubt it.

I think the throne room scene would have been Ainz walking in and sitting on the throne with the king and supposedly Renner too forced by Demiurge to kneel with the guardians standing at his sides as Ainz and the king talk about why Ainz did what he did and why he didn't just take the king's head or make the nation a vassal state. Then Ainz would just tell Renner to get it over with and Climb would appear right after Renner killed her father with him looking back at her with a dark joyful smile as he falls into his blood puddle...
I don't think that Renner thinks that she can control Nazarik from the shadows. It is true that Ainz isn't as smart when compared to the three geniuses (D+A+R), but we are only privy to this information as readers. Thinking from the perspective of a characters, Ainz was able to subjugate the Empire in a matter of days through psychological pressure, even Demiurge was in awe of how efficiently and quick his master was able to do this. Not only does this feat prove that he is intelligent and a master manipulator, he also has no facial expressions and has emotional suppression so no one can really pick up on small queues if he is having issues. Besides not being able to get a read on him, Ainz is supported by Albedo and Demiurge, two geniuses who can compete with Renner intellectually, and both are aware of her intellect, making them wary of her.
At best, she would stay loyal to Nazarik while creating a good and comfy position for herself in the future rather than actually trying to control Nazarik from the shadows.
We all know at the end of Disney films, the heroine is singing when she get´s together with her prince after all the good deeds,.. But here we are speaking about a women who sacrificed the life of 100.000 of her own people just to get a boy as her puppy. This is so evil but it is also really great when u compare this scene to a Disney film like Arielle,...
She turned out to be a scared little girl. I hope they find a way to train her and make her stronger though. I cant wait to see what Climb gets turned into.
In her case being smarter was actually detrimental in regards to how to deal with ainz jircniv still has superior standing with Ainz which is the key thing that manners whereas renner has standing with cray cray demi and albedo that could turn on her if push comes to shove.
This is probably one of those times when the adage changed from "Love conquers all" to "Love vanquish everything else".

A War is a war, the only concern to win and to do that you need every advantages you can get.
A massacre is another factor as it reduces morale in times of combat. So yes no matter how one sided it may be a War will always be a war, the only choice is win or lose.
Plus they sent out a formal declaration of war and gave them one month to prepare as etiquette would dictate
I think renne and the emperor would completely think differently of him if he wasn't a skeleton or simply having automatic and MASSIVE negative/evil presence he's constantly emitting making to basically forcing everyone to assume oh he is DEFINITELY evil so they always think bad or negative things simply because of that presence he is emitting that he isn't or never aware of. So it's scaring them because they believe an intelligent and extremely evil monster is here. So it's really smart/intelligent people trying to make a a little more than an already average Joe show them what "this evil being has got so we can kill him" because they automatically assume this little over average Joe is just about playing with them and it's scaring to just about pissing some of them off. While said average Joe is slowly more and more getting takin over by the ainz the actual Intelligent overlord his mind is turning into is also the thing completely fooling and confusing everyone into thinking that know better "what's the deal? Is he a idiot or not?" When currently it's both with non idiot slowly taking over.

Late reply. From the story, I gather he isn't chained up. He is though like her changed and decided to believe in the nice lie about his beloved Renner. She fed him a BS story and he took it as he had no one else now and just accepted his fate.
The whole room taking much time is more implying a constant physical relationship now... Climb is tasked with small duties like all Nazarick residents as well to Renner. Just when they aren't needed she has her fun time with him. Her broken puppy that accepts her smile even with her true expression now...
So still a sad fate for Climb, but he also decided to accept it... It has been interesting if he stayed dead because of how resurrection requires the deceased to want to return.
