Just came across your videos and I am truly admiring you. I want to be just like you when I grow up. Oh yeah - I am 74 years old and started my garden just 3 years ago. Unfortunately I got sick and stepped away but I do have a fish pond and many unfinished areas for planting. I also found that I have a good healthy crop of poison ivy and poison oak spread amount a few stalks of blackberries and raspberries. I am going to go through all of your videos and I do hope you continue these very simple but complex videos about things that others do not think are important. Thank you so much.
I recommend a soil sampler probe (basically a steel pipe that is slightly sharper on one end) to collect soil samples. A tad more accurate than scrapping a wall of a freshly dug-out hole. Also, filter out any larger particles from the soil with a regular coffee filter or something before doing the test, makes it easier and more reliable to match sample's color with the color scale on the box
How am I just finding your channel? I learnt alot and also enjoyed your humour... I literally LOLed at pregnant... are u sure you're lil helper digging the holes is not the father? 😂
With the PH you can do the same 1-1 deionized water to soil mix but use a pen type PH meter. I have one from Hanna instruments and the PH usually comes is within .2 of the lab tests. It's a lot easier because it just spits out a number, no color matching. Plus there are no reagents to purchase and mix. Really enjoy your videos! Keep it up! 👍
Very instructive! I own one of those cheap pH tester that you can find everywhere. You just plantcitcin the soil and you get an instant reading. Im curious where do they stand for precision and was hoping to see one of those in your test.
😇pH is a trailing indicator, meaning it is a result, not a cause. high pH can be because of calcium, magnesium, potassium...when people say blueberries like acidic soil, the phenomenon is misunderstood. it is actually a tolerance for but not exactly liking for it. believe me, blueberries grow well, indeed thrive, in a soil amended correctly in the way of William A. Albrecht. Logan Labs does it this way...blessings
