If you are going to work on your own truck, I would highly suggest that you buy a Chilton's repair manual. There are also digital versions of technical manuals for your specific truck too. Some shops offer free diagnostics and will give you a printout for the specific problem from the professional technical manuals that they use as today's vehicles are highly complex and the days of the shadetree mechanic are long gone.
You guys should get your TWIC cards and do Refinery turnarounds…….12 hour days , 7 days a week for 40-60 days at a time. You can make 30-40 an hour plus OT an double time. Work a a fire attendant or hole watch.
Had never heard of these until you mentioned. I think that wouldn't work for our specific situation because we need something where we can split our time between our own work (video editing, writing etc) and the job. We actually found a pretty sweet gig that lets us do exactly that! More to come. -J
I (Joseph) worked in TV news as a camera guy/live truck operator for 8 years. Kalyn started blogging 12 years ago and continues to run her own business at www.kalynbrooke.com -J
At most of the big auto parts stores sell repair kits for plastic hi pressure lines. The problem I have is finding someone at the auto parts that know what they have. Look in the help catalog. I'm sure you have already fixed it. But if there is a next time......
But you’ll never do that again 😂 it’s called experience so awesome to know what the mechanics are talking about etc etc. love kaylyns sweet hug of reassurance classic great woman and friend. ❤
LOVE Ryan Hall! 😁 We've found him particularly helpful for travel since he's always giving the broad overview of the country. We had a big issue with ticks in Indiana last spring - so far none (that we've seen) this year. 🤞🏻 -J
That’s not a high pressure line. My dad broke his and the temporary permanent fix was rubber fuel hose..it’s been working for about 1 year now and 70k miles with no issue and it was a 10$fix
We're putting this on the schedule but it won't be out for a while. Shoot me an email to rvopenroading@gmail.com and I'll make a quick one just for you. 😁 -J
They give you a lot of info ahead of time (at least the unbeetable experience did). Basically you want things that are going to keep you warm but that you are also ok standing for hours on end in. -J
For the Ford truck it might be egr valve, you can clean it with brake cleaner or get a new egr valve. Diesel trucks are known with that problem, all the sutt builds up in there.
It could be. We had the whole EGR replaced in 2021 so I hope it's not that already...but you never know! Thanks for that idea. I'll see if I can get that looked at. -J
Hey you guys just saw this on RUclips and said hey I know them. 😂 old school the only way, but just 75.00 a day at the factory or from on top of that? Cool you guys glad I subscribed ❤
And to answer your question - the $75 a day was stay pay for the days we didn't work due to weather. On the days we worked we got paid hourly for 8 hours and time and a half for 4 hours, then time and a half on Saturday and double time on Sunday. (A little confusing... but the short of it was you didn't want the weekends to get cancelled due to weather. 😂) -J

I have had some people suggest I may want to look into getting the injectors looked at. 😳 -J
The math for glow plugs is different, since they are only in use for a short time to start the engine. Unlike spark plugs, which are in use every minute an engine is running. Since you have to pull the injectors and take them to a shop, which may work on them in a day or two, sometimes it is much easier to order a new set of injectors at a discount. Install them, then you are not tied up waiting for the shop. You put the old ones away to either use as spares, or so you can swap out agsin, just as easily next time.
