Something I like about this show is the relationships between the girls; it's so refreshing to not see some teenage girls cliches and cattiness.
They are all kinda different, but they're still friendly.
Like it would have been so easy to make Maddy a typical mean girl, and for example pin her against Rue, who's a bit weird or Lexi, who's a bit of a geek, but instead they all get along and support each other. That's cool.
Yes I love that. It’s like reality. We know everyone has their cliques, or perceived hierarchies within the school ecosystem, yet everyone ends up knowing and talking to a bit of everyone, and are able to vibe. When I was in HS I talked to all kinds of people, and so did everyone else. I was always left amused at medias cliche portrayals of teen youth tribes at war in the halls and cafeterias. At the end of the day, the anime cat girl and the hot girl would both rather be anywhere else but school smoking a blunt lol

The way Maddy talks about Nate is so accurate as to how it feels after a breakup with an abusive ex. You know you didn’t deserve how they treated you and that none of it was worth it, but you still have good memories and you do feel lonely after being attached to them for so long. So you start to wonder if it really was all that bad even though you know for a fact that it was.
Yeah they use that shit to try and keep doing the controlling abusive behavior

2:21 look at cassie's foot. there's a band-aid on her ankle. she only recently started wearing heels to school and as a result she is developing a blister on her ankle. meanwhile, maddy's ankles are already callous to wearing uncomfortable shoes. i think this is a very nice detail for the cinematographer to add.

@stephanielagares4817 I think Rue just didn't realise that Oklahoma wasn't Lexie's play. Rue is high in this clip and thinks everyone knows about and has read Lexie's play but her. So she's super confused but it's funny to watch
I am so glad they didn't end up going with Jules/Nate plotline they intended to use. Cassie's mental breakdown has been hands down the highlight of this season.

idk, I think I would've liked that better. It's better storytelling & it makes sense with the plot, plus jules has more substance & nuance as a character than cassie
I assume they changed this because Algee Smith decided to run for the exit and the writers needed something to do with Cassie.

@@yutisima the play we, as the audience saw, wasn't necessarily the play lexi wrote. we saw the way rue, cat, maddy, cassie and nate PERCEIVED the show. i dont think lexi was *literally* having the cassie character say all of those lines, those are just how the lines lexi wrote came off to cassie.

Zendaya's little mannerisms as she's playing Rue are hilarious and underrated. I watch her throughout the whole scene, even when she isn't speaking, and she does such a good job at portraying Rue high on drugs assessing Cassie without it being too over the top.
Really? I personally think Zendaya is overrated af... her Role is the easiest and still her acting is extremely bad and annoying. The Actor thay plays Cassie is a real Actor.

This conversation, until the breakdown, was actually realistic. Not following one subject but rather jumping back and forth each time a new thing pops up.
All of them are concerned with rue, but Maddy literally ask rue if she she relapse which is kinda sweet since we don't see much of them together in S1. This whole S2 is literally like showing the foundation of the girls friendship.
Fantastic acting by Sydney!!!
One detail I like is when rue said yes to being asked if she was on something, I adore how everyone immediately focuses their attention onto her to make sure she was okay
This show for me is about seeing Sydney Sweeney playing Cassie so beautifully. Her character is some one most people would relate to.
I can’t believe I had empathy for cassie. Episode 6 was a real eye opener for anyone who tries to defend her.
Edit: episode 7 was the rock bottom she could hit. I am done.
What do you mean by “eye opener”?? We’ve always known she is desperate for the love she never got from her dad. And she’s learning the main way she connects with men is sex. She is broken, but We’ve always known that.

Given this is all in her head, I wonder it was supposed to represent her inner struggle. Her friends judging her attire is how she views herself. She knows she looks ridiculous, that she's not herself but she wants Nate attention so badly that she won't admit it. She wants to scream out her feelings to Maddie but she knows she won't, she's too cowardice, hence her just staring at the mirror.
