This was an operation of very gynaecological nature. I very much appreciate your very British elocution, and very much hope you will be able to do continue to upload RUclips videos of your voyages and adventures. Might you venture to comment on whether a single junk rig mainsail is very much like a sole balanced lugsail in function and form? Kind regards.

Hello! It's similar when set, but there are quite a lot of differences too. There's no boom (it's just the bottom batten). The sheet spreads load across all the battens. This means it's extremely easy to reef (it takes literally seconds from the cockpit, even under wind pressure). It's a big advantage for a distance solo sailor.

Yes, 'tis a damn nuisance this kind of well meant shortsightedness for sure. I've found exactly the same problem on the old Westerly countless times. Being a bit short on patience these days i tend to cut the heads of the bolts off from outside, lift off the fitting (stanchion in your case here), then drive the left over nut and stub end down through its fibreglass prison with a big hammer and punch. Just in case you need to do this again.

shoestringsailor Thanks for the tip! I've just been stripping out the old headlining and have exposed most of the interior, so I can check the other fittings. I reckon I can quickly expose the other nuts with a wire brush on a power drill, without risk of any damage.

@shoestring: quite common for boats from the 1980s. keep in mind that was pretty quick + cheap way of building boats those days. e.g. drascombe boats are buildt more thourough but also sell appox. 3-4 times the price of a coromandel.

I really appreciate your channel. but this here is a bit too time consuming, isnt it?
simple solution: take a chissel + hammer and chop away the fibreglass that covers the nuts. takes 3 minutes. and yes, the chissel needs resharpening after that. quite common btw, the yard just bolted on the hardware and then laminated the nuts over from inside.
