Absolutely means the world to me bro. Thank you man.
Really like the sound of this exhaust. Love the deep tones and the fact that it burbles when you downshift is huge plus for me. I also appreciate that it doesn't have as loud of a cold start as the awe touring.
Being a former FRS owner, I have been constantly trying to convince myself the past few years not to jump into a GR86. Watching all your recent videos is making me heavily reconsider that. Your content reminds me of all the joy that came from building the FRS up from stock form. Thank you for taking the time and resources to experiment with exhaust setups as we all know there are so many possible for the 86/BRZ platform!
yes please! do another followup video soon. id love to know your thoughts! also you usually do this but for installs like this for a first timer, try to include tips and tricks if there are any so if someone was to do this in the future, we can come back to this video. thanks and great vid!
@@KevinVo Never! Comparisons are so inconsistent between creators. Whether that be because of the flow or style of the video, or simply just having one place to see all your options with the same video / sound setup helps making that first exhaust decision a lasting one.
I like the exhaust tips on the one you took off better tbh. I find the one wall tips tend to look kind of cheap by comparison. Just my humble opinion. Sounds really good tho! 👌🏻
In terms of volume I'd say they are similar except the AWE has a very loud cold start while the Tomei is more well mannered. The AWE is still a great option, but in terms of both looks and sound I think the Tomei eeks it out. It's all personal preference though. I am really drawn to how this exhaust looks.
@@Barbwire710 Nah, the AWE. The other two that sound awesome are the MXP Comp RS and Ark Performance GRiP. Just my opinion of course everyone is different and likes different sounds.
Type D dual exit exhaust - $1,890.00 (as of June 2023). Let's see how the price fluctuates as time goes on. Great video, watch it all. I like the fit finish, it looks amazing, but one thing, the tone is the same throughout the rev range, is too monotone. I would put headers and have a v-band section with resonator(s).
I absolutely love everything about that exhaust except for one minor detail. I cannot stand to look at the white ring inside of the exhaust tip. If there is some way to just make it black or even to not stand out too much, after that it would be a 10/10 for me. Btw, love the content Kevin, I binged the entire series up to this point and you have made me want this car even more. It's quite funny because when this car first dropped I didn't care for it very much. But over time and watching your videos, I now NEED to get my hands on one. Kevin you're build rocks!!!thanks for the TIPS...i m trying to do like you and do all by myself...Hope can buy all the parts...they send It to Italy?(do you think i can have some sort of problem?)
Would be cool if someone created a block off cap so you can block either side of the exhaust and essentially create a single exhaust on either side or keep it dual.
Sounds like a souped up riding lawn mower. The car was driven passively. Need to punch the accelerator and get into higher revs on the turns by camera.
Kev, so I have the AWE Touring on mine right now as well... in terms of loudness and tone, how does this exhaust compare? Deeper? Higher-Pitched? Louder? Quieter? Raspier? Smoother?
Hey Kevin! Great video as always. Any plans on doing a video on the new 2nd gen Borla exhausts? I've been eyeing it for awhile and would love a video on it!
Got 1 video from other guy showing that. But installing the silencer make the exhaust look very ugly. Due to the fact you could see the silencer baffle at the end of the exhaust. But if it was requires then i guess no choice then.
Stupid question, how do you align the exhaust for the tips to be symmetrical? My passenger side exhaust tip is hanging higher than the driver side. I tried positioning the rubber exhaust hangers..but they just settle in whatever position they want to lol.
You want to adjust it from the front of the car to the back so I'd suggest loosening everything and start at the y pipe to make some adjustments there and then tighten and adjust the muffler angles.
Not too much drone at all with the stock setup. The Apex N1-X I tested had a very nice tone to it that was moderate in volume. I need to try another one of their exhausts.
Thanks for doing it with the stock header. I like the look of AWE tips better since it has this perfection of fitment. But I do love the sound of both AWE touring and this new Tomei. If you don't mind sharing what is your preference and why?
It's a hard choice. You made good points, the black tips on the AWE are great. The cold start is very obnoxious though. The Tomei isn't as bad on cold start. The volume of the. Is pretty close. The Tomei is beautifully built though and that for me gives it a slight edge.
Sounds pretty good from here. I went with an Invidia Q300 catback because I didn't want anything too loud. I'm happy with it. The Tomei sounds very cool. I wish I could tell how loud it actually is because it has a sweet note.

Kevin, can I ask you a question, hopefully you'll read this as I haven't found the correct forum to post question. As a subscriber to your channel, I'm sure you'll know more than pretty much most of the people out there anyway as you've dabbled in so many different exhaust systems. I bought a quad titanium tip exhaust (axel back) from Toms Racing for my GR86 and it's so quiet I can barely hear it, it does have a bark on the higher end which is nice, but low down, it sounds stock as. I initially tried the dual tips which is a cat-back and there was so much drone around the 3-4000 rpm that it was doing my head in. So between the two, I've had to opt on this one. Can you advise where can I get a mid-pipe that will increase the noise levels down low (resonated like stock) but give it a little more growl and sound down low towards idle? Do all mid-pipes connect at the same point like this axel-back does for bolt on install? Or will fabrication be required?
