no, it's incredibly loud but the Master Vol pot on this has a different taper so it comes in more slowly, making it easier to set at lower volumes if needed.

Sounds like the crazy bad mod that some folks, including distributors, did to get more gain. Essentially runs one pre-amp stage into the next. I acquired a '77 Custom 100 in this state and had to change the wiring back to stock. Now it's perfect. Check Mark Huss' Hiwatt website for more information about the procedure to fix it. Good luck.

not at all. you're thinking of the "Canada mod". do some more research. this is all original and was implemented only on amps from 1969 to 1970. it's a totally different wiring, it doesn't run the two preamp circuits together. Mark Huss site will give you the info you need. Good luck to you too x

sirvidia Thanks, sirvidia. I understand you now. I felt inclined to suggest it because I did, indeed, have the Canada mod on my '77 for 30 years! Thanks to Mark's great website, I was able to undo the harm.

There's a schematic for this amp on Mark Huss's site that will answer your questions. This is not the Canadian mod as has been addressed. This was a particular manufacturing run from 1969 and 1970.

@@jstnjstnjstnjstn read the comments before patronising people with your scant knowledge. I know all about Mark's website and the Canadian mod. This is not the Canadian mod. This is a specific preamp that was produced for a while in 1970 only. The circuit diagram is on Mark's site. You literally haven't read the comments immediately above yours.

@@jstnjstnjstnjstn after however many comments saying "this is the Canadian mod" I thought it was yet another one :)
It's just the mic on the camera so it's compressed to fuck.

Sounds like your Hiwatt's got a problem. If i put the Master Volume past 3 o'clock on my 1971 Custom 100, it's on the edge to blown away my EVM12L's 4x12 cab.
You had the Master Vol at about 12 o'clock in this video, so something is not right with your amp. With those settings, you should ear an earthquake, not your guitar.

Use a Les Paul for the video
