    This song is very special for Poles. This one is a cover, coz song was originally made in 1982 and was performing by Bajm (Beata Kozidrak), when Poland was under the occupation of Soviets - all of the politicians was totally controlled by Soviet Union and Poland, since 1944, was a communist country. People in their hearts felt free and can not stand the occupation, so riots for freedom begins to spread. Basically song is about daily life and feelings people suffer under the regime. But in fact, it's true value was hidden from the soviet cenzorship. It's a protest-song, that was made to give Poles courage and stranght to keep going and holdon, to not forget the bright future is ahead. And finally, 7 years after the oryginal version was released, after many fight, riots and lost lives, in 1989 we get our freedom back, and this song become a memorial of those times :) So our situation now is so similar to the situation then - uncertain times, unknow future, but we have to keep going.

    Adam asked musicans and singers to play or sing, but they didn't know what for. Every one did it alone, and then it was mixed in one clip. 16 singers and about 780 instruments.
    Oryginally this song was made in 1982 by polish group Bajm.

    This song was performed in 1982 first time, by Bajm group. It was the darkest time in Poland's modern history. Martial law, tanks on streets, deep economic and political crisis, empty shops, communism time. Poland was pariah of Europe. Bajm and Beata Kozidrak performed this song on radio and tv. The words are significant for Poles.
    And this Orchestra are top Polish musicians and singers.

    It needs a little explanation. Song is from early 80's - that time spitting on the street or chewing a gum while speaking to someone was considered as rude. Even now chewing gum at the classes in school is considered as rude by some teachers and they do not allow it.

    • @Butik1
      @Butik1 3 года назад +10

      It was NOT recorded over zoom. It would not be possible to synchronise everyone online via zoom with different interned speeds, ping times etc. Adam Sztaba - the conductor & arranger - published the score of this piece online (divided into all particular instruments) and anyone could record its part. Also tempo and basic tune was given. All individual recordings (732 people in total) were then sent to Adam and then everything was edited by professional editor in professional studio. So not only it's a great arrangement of famous Beata Kozidrak song, but also fantastic arrangement of Adam Sztaba and massive editing job.

    This song was firstly recorded by the band named Bajm in 1982 (a great song even then!). At that time the text referred to the martial law imposed by the communists in December 1981, and now it suits perfectly the COVID reality... Adam Sztaba, was the conductor and the creator of the whole idea. He wrote on his social media, that he was looking for the musicians to play this song. The musicians were sent the notes and they played it separately using the metronome only and then they sent it back. The artists sang the song to the original music. Then other guy was synchronising it all together. Music to this was recorded in 6 days (only)... Than they added vocalists. Than they've became the biggest on line Orchestra in the number of 732 pepole involved... And the best part is that no one, including the members of orchestra knew nothing about what is going on untill it was published on yt... As a bilingual I’d say could’ve been worse as for translation. My mum (she’s Polish) has kept me attached to Polish and Poland by all possible manners and in all possible aspects (the language, history etc.). Considering it was written in 1982 (by band called Bajm, her frontwoman Beata Kozidrak) and what it really meant to Poles. All those hidden metaphorical phrases, the overall message…I don’t think there’d be any translation truly and profoundly making sense or making it felt the way it was by Polish ppl. We can discuss that spitting out or chewing gum obviously sound a bit surrealistic and randomly in a way. But how on earth would you interpret the reference to desire to feel free, speak your own mind avoiding a strict censorship. The act of control spread throughout the country at that time. The only thing is an explanation, bringing up historical context etc. For my own taste it’s impossible to translate all those tiny hints and coded expressions into single one-line, single verses.

    Group/band "Dżem" (pronunciated like Jem or Jam in EN and means in PL "jam"; "dż" is like "j" in EN). The vocalist (real bluesman Polish legend) died for similar resons like Hendrix, Morrison etc. (the picture on video is of him & his later passed very good wife): title PL "Modlitwa" = EN "Prayer": ruclips.net/video/yIcIr6rBYSs/видео.html. Fortunately his son (Sebastian Riedel) inherited musical talent, eg. here's he as young man: ruclips.net/video/vdZUK85318w/видео.html and he some years later: ruclips.net/video/Gktun26eWLU/видео.html
    Another very popular Polish blues group Breakout, may be you will like them too, 2 examples: ruclips.net/video/BGr8SxiN3K8/видео.html & ruclips.net/video/IJWT68OumVs/видео.html (EN: "What did happen to the flowers". If you like this music you easily find more songs by Breakout on YT.
