    This is the first palette that I bought when I decided to try watercolor again. I always used the cheap white plastic ones. I really like the Mijello palettes & have several sizes. Eventually I bought the Meeden ceramic & other studio size 40-50 well palettes. I have a lot of different materials like WC & other media & the airtight palettes work for temporarily holding mixed media mediums when I am working out on the deck or in the kitchen.

    I bought that pallet a while back, but didn’t use it. I got hooked on ceramic. Now I dug it out and have it prepped for use! Thank you. FYI - Meeden has the same ceramic pallet as Quiller for $49CDN. No cover. I printed your colour wheel chart (thank you, again) made my colour wheel on Arches, then laminated it with a size to cover my palette. Works great! 👍🏻👍🏻

    Thks for sharing. You seems to have similar picked to me. I will have to see more of what you review since we have the similarity in the selection. I love the ceramic you have too even it s a bit big for me right now. I depend on Majello every where so far.

      I LOVE both of these palettes...even though they are quite different. I use the porcelain in the studio and the Mijello when I am out and about! Have a great day!!

    Although I have scavenged some thrift shops and dollar stores on the cheap finding butcher trays, 12 deviled egg carrier, and some ceramic pans, with beginner's luck I made the same choice as you and bought two just in case. I did find an old microwave bacon tray for drying brushes that works pretty good.

    I purchased the Art Toolkit folio palette. I have not taken it to travel with so I am not sure how it will work in keeping paints from running out if there is any type of moisture in the palette. Of course since it’s not leak proof I think I know that answer. The palette pans are small and shallow. I mean 4mm deep shallow. The mixing areas are kind of small and they stain horribly. The pan is configurable, which is nice, but you can’t get crazy with spritzing the paints or the paints bleed over from pan to pan.

      I'm not familiar with that brand, but I looked it up quickly. Looks fancy! :-) And yes those wells look very shallow. I don't think I would like that. The travel palette I show in this video, is very in-expensive. The wells are pretty deep and have nice smooth edges, which are gentle to your brushes. I also like the "air tight" seal. Sold for around $10 in the US. I love it.

    I'd read that the dried paints move around a lot, and into other wells, when this palette is closed and not kept flat. Have you had this problem?

    • @KrisDeBruineStudio
      @KrisDeBruineStudio  6 месяцев назад

      Great question. I have not had this problem. But I follow this protocol - I remove any excess water and let it dry a little before closing the palette (this doesn't take long). The paint stays in its well quite nicely. Thanks.

    Hello, as always a very informative video...I had been thinking about the Majello palette and now that i heard you I just ordered it using your link. I do have a quesstion....when the lid is closed I am aware that it will not leak, but what happens to any liqued/paints that are in the wells? Thank you

    • @KrisDeBruineStudio
      @KrisDeBruineStudio  Год назад +2

      If you close the palette when there is still a lot of water in the wells or in the mixing areas, it will move around in the palette. However, I always clean the mixing areas before I close it, and make sure the wells don't have puddles of water. I haven't had a problem.

    The heavy palette reminds me of my great aunt Betty's watercolor palette but hers don't have the triangle wells on it.

    Kris, could you do a video on paper size : brush size ratio ? I’m having trouble figuring that out . My brushes seem to pick up so much paint that I often get big blobs of color on my paper. If I wipe some off on my mixing palette it fills up so fast that it starts turning to mud... I’d like to know what you can tell us before I start having to wipe off tons of expensive paint on paper towels and throwing it away... Thanks a bunch 💖
