There is investigative journalism, explanatory journalism, and opinion journalism, which is a part of public journalism/civic journalism. There are also a number of journalistic genres that are opinion- based, which include gonzo journalism and new journalism. Even though I believe one or both of the first two examples may describe the types of journalism Meghann Cuniff practices, people who write columns are still journalists who practice opinion journalism.
Just report the facts without an opinion attached.

When she said that it is not common for people to remain out on bail while appealing, that is not an opinion. Just because Jussie Smollett, who I believe is still appealing, is out somehow it is not common. That being said, Meghann Cuniff is a legal affairs journalist, which is based on her own description. I'm going with that, which reinforces what I've seen and heard so far.
