I love that dialogue where Zeff compares the Micqueot wines to the new generation. "Perfectly aged and ready to be enjoyed. Leave it too long and it'll go bad." But then Garp responds with "Or you could just serve whiskey." Which gets better with age.
This dialogue also implies that the longer you on top or in power etc, eventually you'll do bad things to stay that way. that's why old generation should retired in peace, enjoy their old age and let next generation do their things.
The wine is in relation to the old generation should retire while they can still enjoy retirement. Vs Garp comparing himself and the oldies to whiskey, trying to continue going as a long as possible and never stop.
OMG yes. I was so skeptical from the trailers unfortunately (I dont think that outcome was avoidable, its whatever) but holy shit she's really good at this!
Not really.....Her version of Nami is VERY different from the Manga/Anime version of Nami, and even the Japanese Voice Actress of Nami, who has been doing the voice for the anime for years, stated that it was hard to Dub Live Action Nami for Japan because of how depressing her character seemed.....
I couldn't help but shed a tear at the “Help me, Luffy” scene. Her origin is so sad. Emily Rudd really did a great job as Nami, and bringing one of my favorite characters to life.
A really subtle thing they did is another explanation for how Nami joins Arlong. When Nami retuns the book to Genzo, the village captain guy, he say that whenever she wants anything from him to come to ask him and he might have some jobs for her. It's just a little conversation but that made her belive that if she really wanted something she could work for it, which lead her asking Arlong to join him and make a deal to get the village back.
But did you all noticed? Kokoyasi people was Nami "treasure" and when Luffy gave his hat to her it was a kind of "take care of my treasure while I take care of yours". In anime this meaning are more clear.

It’s such a good story from every angle! Arlong absolutely counted on Nami staying with his crew because she’s got nowhere else to go, he even said so “part of me thought you wouldn’t come back” and right after that he sends her to Coco village to really drive home that she’s hated and despised there. And when he understands that she’s really going to go through with her plan and leave him he takes her money and burns down the village she wants to save. Doing everything he can to make sure he’s all she’s got. Nami knows this and makes sure to play her part, letting everyone hate her so Arlong doesn’t get any “competition” he needs to remove. It’s so well crafted!
Thank you for this explanation! Everyone was saying manga/anime is better, but for some reason I felt that this works great too. I felt that if the villagers knew, they will be in greater danger. There will always be some weakness or vulnerability if they care for Nami.
The hat guy is named Bogard. He works under Garp. That is basically literally all we know about him. Like, he probably speaks more in the live action show than he does in the entire manga

One thing that the manga/anime emphasized was that Arlong repeatedly stated that he would rather die than go back on a deal involving money. And while that was kinda touched on here with Nami at the poker game -- "you know we don't lie about money on this crew" -- the way it was emphasized in the source material gave a bit more weight to the idea that Arlong MIGHT actually honor that deal. And really that's the thing that kept Nami strung along all this time and why she deluded herself into believing that Arlong would actually keep his end of that deal: hope. Even 8 years later, Nami still didn't see any way to save her village except through that deal. To admit that the deal would never be kept would be to admit that there was no hope for any of them to regain their freedom and that she had spent nearly half of her life working under the people she hated the most for absolutely nothing. When something is that foundational to your identity, to the your motivation and reason for living, your brain will do all sorts of mental gymnastics to keep that belief intact. So yeah, I can't really bla.e Nami for thinking that Arlong would honor their deal, because to do otherwise would have meant that she gave up any sort of hope for freedom and a life beyond that of a slave to Arlong.
You were the first person to comment on how stupid that deal was with Arlong. But youare absolutely right that she couldn't have known that because she was a kid!
Arlong always honor his promises. He does not breaks deals had she brought the cash too him he would definitely gave back the village that's why he send the marines to get it before she brought it to him
I absolutely loved your reaction to this episode. This whole entire help me seen. You know was one of my absolute favorite parts in the anime. When I watched the anime I was already. Loving it but by this point I was sold that. This anime is my absolute favorite anime of all time. And the actress Emily Rudd, who plays Nami. She delivered this whole entire character arc flawlessly I also love what you said about wanting to be more like luffy. That's exactly how I feel. And why. I love his character so much.❤
I have the same questions about Buggy eating. I also want to know how blood loss or wound infection would work. If blood continues to flow as if his body is still in one piece-if it teleports from one part of a vein or artery to another-then he could bleed out from a wound on any one of his parts. And infection could spread from limb to limb. This makes the most sense to me. It would also help food make sense. But it would be cool if he could use his chop-chop abilities to mitigate blood loss or isolate infection. (Also, I enjoyed your reaction, as always. And the editor's little additions. This episode is probably the hardest-hitting of them all. I've seen these scenes so many times, between watching the show twice and watching reactions channels. I still tear up at Nami's mother's death and at the scene where she finally asks Luffy for help.)
Also I was saddened they toned down Bellmere's encounter with Arlong......in the Manga/Anime Bellmere busted through the door and dropkicked Arlong to the ground shoving her Rifle into his mouth.....so badass.....
The guy told her we can find you work to buy the book. So she took that lesson and applied it to the village. But she doesn't realize that just because she does bad things, to get money for the village, it doesn't make her a bad person.
To be fair about the money thing, Berry is closer to yen than dollars, so 100k berry that they wanted in tribute is more like 1k dollars, at least vaguely.
Nami's "Help Me" scene and Luffy putting his straw hat on her head symbolizing how precious she is a true tear jerker... Love me some One Piece. God bless.
Yeah, I pretty much cried on every episode of the Live Action lol. Having *all* the context and character development throughout the thousand episodes/chapters broke me every everytime 😂😭
JFC the real world equivalent of “Berry” is Japanese yen not any sort of dollar. In US dollars the amount Arlong killed Nami’s mother over would only be around $665 today.
I really loved the live action, specially the actress for Nami, she fits the character very well. But, I recomend you to watch the "help me" scene of the anime series. Her voice actress was AMAZING there
This episode made me cry, my eyes out because it was twice as sad as the anime series explained, but Nami didn’t choose to join Arlong’s crew. She was forced into it in the anime series. Plus the part where Nami stabs her arm with a tattoo on it that made me ball my eyes out like a baby 🥺😭
6:36 They both love food, and once they've made up their minds to do something it doesn't matter how much you threaten, bargain, beg, reason, argue or rationalise, they'll stick to it.
considering the hat guy dress and true to Oda theme. the dude is a really super detective. He will ask and speak like detective. And for the tribute thing, even if she have enough she still going to get kill any way because she was ex-marine, so if one word from her reach the marine HQ, Arlong is done that why Arlong need to kill her and bribe that marine rat captain.
Nami, crying, sobbing a weak "Help me!!" and Luffy screaming "Of course I will!!" in response will always be my favorite defining moment in early One Piece.
that nami scene is the turning point for majority of one piece anime/manga fans. from "hey this is something fun" to "I LOVE ONE PIECE! ONE PIECE IS THE BEST" 😂 1000+ chapters/episodes later, the walk to arlong park is still one of the most iconic scenes on One Piece Manga/Anime
0:08 Thinking of watching the Anime while waiting till season 2 of Live Action One Piece releases on Netflix? Be interesting to see how far you get in roughly a year - hoping you'll get to episode 380 - those who've gotten that far will know why. Of course there's the problem afterwards of how you'll cope once you're up to date with the anime and then will join the crowd of thousands who wait year by year for another season instead of being able to binge watch it as new, but I guess there's always the manga to read while waiting for both the new season of the anime and the new season of the live action - we're supposed to be starting the final arc of both the manga and the anime soon (in a year or two), which I guess is another reason why Eiichiro Oda gave his consent for a live action series now.
Ah yes, the guy in the hat. A very unique attire for a marine. I wonder if that will show up again sometime, hmm... In all seriousness though, his attire is a bit of an easter egg for anime viewers with a keen memory 😁
For context, Berry is about equivalent to Japanese Yen which is about ¥100 : $1. So Arlong's tribute is about $1000 per adult or $500 per child. So, Nami's Mom was killed for $1000. And Nami's deal would be about $1M.
Yeah by this point the live show got me to watch the anime if you think this is making you cry this much you'll be done with a whole tissue box by the end of its first season which is arlong but takes 45 episodes
The anime version of this is better. Nami told her sister about her deal with Arlong almost immediately after making the deal, and Nojiko told the villagers about it without Nami knowing. So the villagers all pretended to hate Nami so she wouldn’t feel guilty if she ran away. This version lacks the emotional gut punch of finding that out. Also, the scene that happens at the beginning of the next episode, where she stops the villagers from attacking Arlong, happens differently. She’s alone, and *fails* to stop them, adding to her desperation during the “help me” scene.
Did you notice in the scene where Nami comes to collect the tribute, everyone and everything in the background is washed out, but the main characters (or characters of importance) are brightly colored.
Knowing Oda, I think it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility that Buggy can still eat kinda normally even with his head separated. It's pro'lly just a stub of skin under that

It’s good to see another video from you!
1984: "KHAAAAAAN!"
2004: "HECTOOOOR!"
2023: "ARLOOOONG!"
evolution of rage.
edits like "Honey, you got a big storm coming" are a big part of making the channel worthwhile
I was waiting for you to watch this!!!! Great reaction!!!!
I've been waiting for this moment since your OP journey began. 🙇♂️
"Mr Hat" as you put him is Garp's right hand man and has been for years. Arlong Park is what hooks a lot of people into One Piece.
Imagine this in the anime ...yeah it hits different
0:05 me during break week
6:36 They both love food, and once they've made up their minds to do something it doesn't matter how much you threaten, bargain, beg, reason, argue or rationalise, they'll stick to it.
considering the hat guy dress and true to Oda theme. the dude is a really super detective. He will ask and speak like detective. And for the tribute thing, even if she have enough she still going to get kill any way because she was ex-marine, so if one word from her reach the marine HQ, Arlong is done that why Arlong need to kill her and bribe that marine rat captain.
That's One Piece for ya, you laughing at one point and BOUM gut punch 🥊. That's why we love it and I'm glad you enjoy it.
the anime is 1000 chapters in and is at the final stages..... but I think you should watch it cause it will blow your mind how incredible it is.
Nami, crying, sobbing a weak "Help me!!" and Luffy screaming "Of course I will!!" in response will always be my favorite defining moment in early One Piece.
waiting for these weekly reactions feels like waiting for the actual anime😭🫡
I was wrecked with you Angie... what an incredible backstory :')
8:06 when Angelina turns into the laughing seagull meme
the guy following garp with the grey outfit is none other than garps right hand man
in the anime he is mostly seen in the middle episodes of one piece
One Piece makes you laugh, cry, laugh while crying and cry while laughing
One more to go, the ending for the first season was perfect. Love your reaction
the edit at around 12:06 is prefect!
that nami scene is the turning point for majority of one piece anime/manga fans. from "hey this is something fun" to "I LOVE ONE PIECE! ONE PIECE IS THE BEST" 😂 1000+ chapters/episodes later, the walk to arlong park is still one of the most iconic scenes on One Piece Manga/Anime
The way you wipe your tears reminds me of of the Captain (his name escapes me, Kuro?) with the sword gloves that Luffy headbutted 😅
Maaan I am happy they have many Bogard Scenes. One of the most mysterious marines.
When I finished watching this episode it was 5AM and I had a sleeping pill working its way through my system. I had to finish anyway.
Luffy is like, It's on like Donkey Kong!
This arc is much sadder in the anime. Especially Nami’s backstory. It is fucking heartbreaking in the anime.
17:20 Knew there'd be a chance she'd fight for her, would try to help her. If Arlong got suspicious that Nami was getting help...
Here we go. The backstory we've all been waiting for
Ah yes, the guy in the hat. A very unique attire for a marine. I wonder if that will show up again sometime, hmm...
In all seriousness though, his attire is a bit of an easter egg for anime viewers with a keen memory 😁
So Well Done...Just as Emotional in the Anime
I’M SO EXCITED TO WATCH /YOU/ WATCH ONE PIECE AAAAAAAAAAH
'Nami backstory I'm ready!'
Me: no you aint!
Yeah, I lost my shit in this one too. I still tear up every time I see it.
9:09 I still can't tell if they're horrified by watching Garp eat or if they're thinking "is he going to offer us one at any point?"
9:24 Angelina ready to throw hands at that hat
One of the key moments in one piece. Is nami's. Liffy help me
And these acteors nailed it so good.
yo the editor is the fuckin MVP of this channel
For context, Berry is about equivalent to Japanese Yen which is about ¥100 : $1. So Arlong's tribute is about $1000 per adult or $500 per child. So, Nami's Mom was killed for $1000. And Nami's deal would be about $1M.
Yeh, I cried too. Thanks angie.
Nami's backstory is one of saddest ones ever, and this adaptation really did justice to it.
Bogard ("the hat guy") is the most underrated character in the series!
Love it. So emotional
The hat guy is only the "legendary Bogard"
Knowing Oda, I think it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility that Buggy can still eat kinda normally even with his head separated. It's pro'lly just a stub of skin under that
