Just listened to this episode for the first time at the gym. The main takeaway I received from this is that there is NOTHING wrong with having a 9-5! There has been an attempt to diminish regular working folks by some people online and RUclips. You can absolutely become financially free or a millionaire by working a j-o-b. You just have to find the right career path and apply yourself. This episode is the epitome of that mindset. Thank you gentlemen! *getting it for real since’08*
Precisely! That’s what I want my people to know. We shouldn’t be peer pressured into starting a business or feeling as if it’s not okay to have a business AND a 9-5
@@techisthenewblack Bingo. If you make 100K a year for 10 yrs, then you have grossed a 1million. If you save just 20% of that in cash, invest 7% in your 401K and buy a house, then you are effectively a millionaire in 10 years. Man listen, keep up the GREAT work. Your show is solution based and is a poison pill to those with a victim mentality.
Great conversation! I love hearing John say that he wants to stay planted and continue to learn from the strong leaders in his company. Always growing is the best mindset! 🙌🏽
Glad to see this episode! To see someone in tech that looks like me “Loc’d” helps me a lot knowing I’ll be able to get into tech even with my hair. May not seem big to some but I’ve gone to big interviews with a company outside of tech that said something about me having hair and to cut it in order to work there just because I have locs. Thank you for this episode Cyrus!
Yep! And he’s not just in tech, but he’s a senior management level. So he kept getting promoted even with the locs! Wait til you see our guest for next week!
@@techisthenewblack I never really thought of tech until watching your content and I immediately joined Careerist, start classes tomorrow. I look forward to next week! I watch every video you put out💯
This is some pure gold John dropped. I feel like most of the Product Manager content I see is very gate keepish and super vague. As someone looking to career pivot to tech from insurance this seems like a doable step. Do you have any product manager courses that you have seen that are worth the investment? Thanks for the great content!
Hey! Yes, General Assembly has an amazing product management course. We actually have a $200 discount link (in the video description) AND you can do your 1st class entirely for free tonight (Wednesday) and make your decision after that. Check out the video description
I love how y'all talked about pouring into yourself. That is something I have started doing a lot. Do you recommend any tech, faith based, mental/self help, and/or business podcasts and books?? I have a couple now and I'm actively searching for more. I watched your video about how you went from Lyft driving to a quarter mil in Tech. Toward the begining you talked about how what you read or pour into yourself renews your mind. That struck a chord with me, so I've been working hard to dial into books and content I otherwise wouldn't think is for me. Like y'all said even here I'm into it and want to keep learning and growing. Like always you're dropping great content. I can't wait for what you give us next week!
Great episode bro! I start careerist tonight sales engineer! I’ll keep you updated throughout! Love to see people like me in tech y’all motivate me so much, much love!
Hi Cyrus great video again. Keep them coming. Creating the technology is helpful but then they need to make it accessible for regular people to be able to afford it.
@@techisthenewblack They have technology for people with PTSD, Autism, ADHD, Depression etc called MeRT and Neurofeedback unfortunately the treatments are not covered by insurance and are very expensive.
Yoooo!!! Dialpad's team was watching the WUPHF episode from The Office with that technology ! 🤣 Cyrus this series is good stuff! Absolute gold bro 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Is this also a podcast? I’ve been looking since last week. I like to listen to things on the go. Please share the link if it is b/c I can’t find it through the search function. Thank you!
Tech sales moves up into Account Executive. Sales Engineers are paired with Account Executives to do the demos. So, it isn’t the same pathway. However, you could ask your company to train you as a Sales Engineer once you have your foot securely in the door. You could also take the bootcamp once you make money from being a sales tech.

If I start off as a SDR, is it possible to move up to sales engineer?
That’s what I’m wondering I think you can work your way into sales engineer

Looks like someone already answered, but not likely. It’s not just a promotion but it’s a different sub industry in tech.
....but wha'ts the name of the website tho that shows top startups lol
Hey! There are a lot of websites that do this. You can search it on Google.
How can I find you on Linkedin?
You can search for my name Cyrus Harbin!
