    "My favorite focal length is 35mm"
    "My favorite focal length is 35mm"
    Every other YT channel... Thank you for embracing the intimacy and immediacy of longer focal lengths! I love a 50mm+ because it brings things to you, to your image. Sometimes I do want a wide image that captures everything, but more often I want my camera to bring me closer, to cut out the extras. I just bought a Fuji X100S for a trip I'm going on... and its a nice camera, but the focal length just feels like I'm using my cell phone.

    Another big fan of cropped scenes here, I've been trying to get familiar with wide angle lenses lately but they just don't seem to fit my eye and after a few shots I end up using 50mm or above.

    Another great video.
    About photographing people... I only use digital cameras for that these days.
    In fact, last weekend I went to a punk/goth etc. event with several DJ's and a live band. It was my first time there, so I didn't know what expect - except for the photos from previous events. I brought a Sony RX100 III and set it to continuous shooting, auto ISO and 1/125 - 1/80 with wide open aperture and -1.7 exposure compensation the entire evening and night. It was a very dark room with lights on the stage, so I focused on getting shots of the DJ's shooting in bursts. I did manage to get some shots, I like a lot, that I might share the manager of the event, but not many.
    At least it was digital...

    We have a classic car festival coming up soon called “Graffiti Weekend” here in Southern Oregon USA. It’s a massive cruise involving probably over 150 cars. My house is smack dab in the middle of it so I will probably be sieged in (like a medieval castle). Therefore might as well shoot some film. I have never thought of trying that tight of a crop. Thank you for the idea. Got some fresh CineStill 800T (120) as well as some Kodak Gold 200 (120 also) to try out.

    The Zuiko 90mm, 100mm f2 lenses are some of the best vintage lenses out there in that focal length but also a bit rare.I got lucky and found 100mm f2 really cheap and couldn't be happier with it.

    • @chdezmtz
      @chdezmtz Год назад +1

      I totally agree, 100mm is one of my favorite focal lenghts, I have a Zuiko 100mm f 2.8 and it is amazing, guess the f2 must be a dreams lens.

    I started using an 85mm on my OM system cameras during the Pandemic for street photography to keep social distance but found I liked the tight shots and the anonymity for stealth candid shots. It also tends to isolate the subject better with less distracting clutter with blurred foreground and background. This lead me to my latest style of using a 55mm f1.2 lens wide open at F1.2 to get a super narrow depth of field and to give the photo a cinematic look and feel (almost like large format). I use slow film and use a red or dark orange filter for black and white film and an ND filter for color film. Shooting at 1/500 or 1/1000 also really helps freeze the action.

      Yes I think that plays a huge part in it - whether you like/know about the cars or not. My partner tends to shoot more of the whole car and then tell me all about it and I don’t care one bit haha I’m just there for the details the colours and the photos and I have no idea about the cars themselves. It’s funny though how that changes the way you approach it. Thanks for watching lovely

    Also prefer working close when shooting classic car as I find that I'm not really interested in shooting the entire car but instead like shooting the lines and shapes and details that you can get while working close. Favorite lens for shooting classic cars is a 1950's era Leica 5cm (50mm) lens as I feel the colors work great for 1950 and early 1960 cars.

    I like hobbiest better then amateur. Professional just means you get paid for what you do.
    I'm a wedding photographer I don't say I'm a professional wedding photographer I just say I'm a wedding photographer.
    I do think amateur is fine if you want to use it. Some people will say I'm a amateur sports photographer and they are working to go pro.
    As a wedding yes most of the time it's a fun job but it also comes with headaches like editing a bunch of wedding photos and sitting in front of the computer for maybe four hours. Sometimes editing can be fun when you have great photos.

    I think people are the most interesting photography subject. I think small zone focus cameras are best for this because people pay less attention to your camera and don’t seem to get upset. The older ones are also very quiet.

    I have been doing these close crop images for years, also including reflections and trying to incorporate things like the lines on the street for geometric angles to complement the curved car panels. This weekend my daughter and I spent the morning secretly taking photos of shoes moving up an escalator or walking through a clothing shop, again using geometric angles to set off the curves of the shoes. My friends cannot understand what I am on about when they view these "strange parts" of things.

    • @LucyLumen
      @LucyLumen  Год назад +1

      Hey Scott, thanks for watching. Composition can be tricky and this is something that is a common problem with photographers. I have lots of suggestions, advice and examples that I offer in my portfolio reviews if it’s something you would like to work on and have some help with. The info is in the description of this video if you want to learn more about it. I will do a more in depth video on the subject of composition soon though but it will obviously be just broad advice.

    I like to photograph hood ornaments on classic cars with a tight crop where I only get the ornament in the picture as I find them interesting. The other thing is I have found the lighting challenging at automotive museums as the cars are lit with bright LED LIGHTS for cellphones and the reflections off the cars are horrible and hard to control with uneven lighting off different parts of the car

    • @LucyLumen
      @LucyLumen  Год назад

      Yes I can totally imagine the artificial light at indoor spaces would be hard to work with. I actually had a lot of trouble at this festival but I enjoyed the challenge of trying to make it work either by leaving it out or bringing it into the photo. Thanks for watching
