Wow this is way better than I thought it would be, I had a bad feeling the violist was gonna suck but she's excellent and I love her sound. I wanted to play/transcribe this piece for viola a couple of years ago but didn't have the time to fit it into my repertoire. I may learn this in my spare time for fun.
It’s a very tough piece and the sound quality is excellent in the beginning, I would be very surprised if she wasn’t very good. Hopefully you have been able to play this piece, it’s quite pretty. Not sure how it feels while playing but chaconnes are usually cool to play.

@@yourfriend8052 I know I left this comment over 12 years ago, but I am a native viola player (never started on violin). One of the first things I learned about viola is that most viola players range from bad to unimpressive. Only a tiny handful are truly extraordinary, whereas there are tons of extraordinary violinists and cellists.
This is a beautiful arrangement. It sounds a little more desperate in this key. It's great!
What seamless bow control
just to clarify... at 4:35 she makes the artistic decision not to use vibrato at 4:35 so that's why you don't hear any. There's no apparent inconsistency with the video.

Yes, it's just transcribed a fifth down so the exact fingerings can be used on viola

No I don't believe so, you can see by the frog because it's square, not rounded!
Iorek Byrnison Thank you for the input. The only way to be completely sure is by weighing the bow. While viola and cello bows almost always have a rounded frog, it’s never a given. My Hill viola bow has a square frog, for example, but it’s weight at 72g defines it as a viola bow.
