I have that exact knife used in the movie. The blade is stamped Western U.S.A W49 C. I think I bought it nearly 50 years ago, It came with a leather sheath and a wooden wall plaque. The plaque has a brass plate on it with the following inscription " Authentic Bowie Knife circa 1840"
@@furslandforge Yes I thought it was cool when I first saw it in a local gun shop all those years ago. Still think it's cool even today. Greetings from Oz.
Gud lookin bowie. I recieved a cheap one with the purchase of a lever action rifle about 15 years ago. It is 14.5 inches overall. Heavey ask crap. Used it for choping grapevines in a creek up to 4 and 5 inches thru. Yours is much better looking. Gud vid.
Good work. Funny how movie and reality can be so different. Just as a matter of content the real Jeremiah Johnson knife looked nothing like the bowie depicted in the movie. It was closer to the Jim Bowie Sandbar knife, also known as the Forrest Bowie.
Great work! If you interested in the real shape, they used a Western W49 Bowie model in the movie. Today, it´s a rare vintage classic, but u can find some on ebay. A good copy is the Bear&Son Goldrush Bowie.
Hello mate, great to see you making videos. I've recently got more interested in having sharp knifes and was wondering about the wet stones you used in this. What grade do you use? I got some as a gift last year but i think they are only 250 and 800. Surely i need a higher grade? Loved the knife by the way. Looks awesome. Well done.

Strange story behind that knife. Its a custom copy of a Western bowie which was available at the time from any sporting goods store.
Great work!

I used a 250 and a 800 but recently got a 400 and 1000. 1000 will get it sharp but you could go higher for chef knife sharp.
