The Other Side of the Shield: CarShield customers, repair shop complain 'nothing is covered'

- Contact Denver7 started investigating CarShield when customers and an Aurora auto repair shop started reaching out to us and the BBB to complain about delays, denials and partial payments.
No Ice-T, you ain't my boy.
The money you pay for the premium every month, just save it yourself. That can be your emergency fund for car repairs.
Thank you, that's exactly what I keep telling people.
It was reported by the B.B.B. that in the past 3 years, they received 3,300 complaints against CarShield. There,s been a consensus that Endurance, is a better way to go for your money and service
Yes, put that money in a savings account instead. When you need car repairs, it's right there. Cut off the middle man(warranties) & deal with auto repair shop directly. No loop holes.
Bingo!!!!!
That’s what I’m doing with burial insurance.
When Ice T or whoever says "And when your engine light goes on, its over" I knew it was a scam.
Tracy Morrow is a paid shill.
One would need to have a lawyer who specializes in contracts to go over the agreement to ferrit out all the loopholes and not withstanding clauses .
And that would be an unrecoverable expense most folks wouldn't bother with , and that is the sucker they are looking for, who will pay a monthly fee for a very narrow field of repair coverage.
Yes remember Ice t called the big guy "my boy" or v versa. If a white did that, and maybe it did, lawsuit, but I know it's rehearsed. That commercial IS targeting people of low IQ.
Ice anybody promoting anything is a scam
Car shield is a big scam I see it with my customers who use it it’s so sad
How hope does he know he does not jump on Bentley's Ferraris he can afford to fix his car
They used to teach this in school. When a company uses a celebrity to sell it's product it's called celebrity propaganda. It's normally a scam.
Yep that’s right
Yep
@STS they need to be put out of business
I’m not buying this stupid policy . It’s not worth the paper it’s printed on . Good at taking Monthly premiums. & leaving you with nothing .
don't you trust Tom Selleck ?
My son's best friend owns an auto repair business and he absolutely refuses to deal with CarShield. He used to, but they caused more arguments between him and his customers that made it impossible to do his job correctly. He now asks right up front if the customer plans on using CarShield, and if they do, he politely tells them to head on down the road.
It was reported by the B.B.B. that in the past 3 years, they received 3,300 complaints against CarShield. There,s been a consensus that Endurance, is a better way to go for your money and service
The reality - "Things are covered only when we (Carshield) say they are covered. And we never say things are covered!"
Always good to remember ICE-T is not your friend.
Exactly!
He gets his paycheck for commercial
I live in my car so I got hit-and-run insurance from GEICO. My car got hit 4 TIMES in 3 years, guess how many times GEICO paid me. ZERO!!!!
I knew then that Car Shield was gonna screw everyone too
I was a Service Writer for a luxury car dealership, and dealt with dealer sponsored extended warranties, which were a pain, This Ice Tea, B.S. scam, should see a class action lawsuit.
as if the dealer doesn't buy used car coverage from an admin and try to upcharge every customer 1200k on it lmao
@@cyoest007 can you rephrase that in simpler terms?
@@MrKevosmin nah that was pretty simplistic already 😂
@@MrKevosmin he can't because he doesn't know how to
@@AdrianJayeOnline no just use your head and read? If you can comprehend English it’s pretty understandable. The dealership only sells extended warranty to make a profit. They buy it from an admin and up charge you on it…?
It's hard to believe some people make their buying decisions based solely on who they see hawking the product.... that's FOOLISH!
They vote that way to
Getting suckered in
But... it's the same reason celebrities endorse political candidates... Like, Ice-T doesn't know a spark plug from a drain plug...
CarShield preys on the elderly and on minorities who are naive and ignorant of the realities of owning/repairing a car. Many of these folks are gullible and fall for the celebrities hawking the bogus car service warranties.
@rhymereason3449
It's kind of like our elections. Ignorant people will vote for someone based upon the propaganda they push, the way the person looks, or their ethnicity, without ever taking the time to research their background and qualifications. And the reason why our country is now such a disaster. Same with vehicle service contracts. You get what your ignorance provides.
51 year career as a professional auto technician and shop owner. My experience is that many extended warranty companies write their policies to carefully exclude most anything likely to fail. Some asked me to install used parts that they supplied! Some wanted the work done at half or less than the going rate. My advice is to keep up on your preventative maintenance and pay for repairs out of your emergency fund partially funded by what you were going to pay a warranty company. If you have to buy an extended warranty package do your due diligence and find one of the rare decent companies. There are many really bad ones out there.
As a mechanic for 35 year's I can tell you more than half of there's warranty companies are a scam😉
It was reported by the B.B.B. that in the past 3 years, they received 3,300 complaints against CarShield. There,s been a consensus that Endurance, is a better way to go for your money and service
Like a mecanic wish cover company do you recomend?
They offered to lower that ladies premium payment, so she can pay Less for no coverage?
As someone who works at an auto repair show that is certified with Car Shield, they don’t pay shop supplies, uncovered diagnostics, maintenance items, if your a/c has a leak they won’t cover the A/C charge as part of diagnostics, wearable items. Also the rentals mostly only are covered if they approve the claim. Also they are very slow to respond to claims and take forever to schedule an adjuster.
And some of these "adjusters" are merely a rep from the company who know little about actual car repair costs.
What exactly is an auto repair show?
@@azmike3572 and the reps take 10 - 14 days to show up, and another 10 -14 days for the rep to make a decision, by that time the customer is so fed up with waiting, they pay for the repair themselves.

I was a carshield policy holder, and the day my car broke down, the company indicated to me if I had read the fine print. Of course, this means they don't cover anything. Just save your money and pay for it yourself. It's terrible that these guys are not what they say. I was out 5000.00 on a transmission job..
If your car needs an engine or transmission, it’s time for a new car. Should of used that 5k for a down payment. But you have your reasons.
@@tyrannywatch974 Yep, go spend 30k to fix a 5k problem. Makes a lot of sense.🤔
@@goldpop5001 If your car needs a new engine or transmission, odds are you’ll be fixing more stuff on it, wasting more money fixing it. I would just buy a brand new car at that point. My car cost me 20 grand brand new btw, don’t know where u getting the 30 grand prize from.
@@tyrannywatch974 30k is just an avg cost of new car, no specific one in mind. You'll pay thousands for a contract regardless if they actually cover your transmission or not. Don't pay, they'll sue anyway. Your best just to save your money in the bank account instead.
Why can't people understand this... insurance & extended warranty coverage is a bet made by some very smart statistical actuaries that they're going to collect more from you than they pay out to you. You're almost always better off just saving the monthly payments you'd be making if at all possible and if you could weather the worst case scenario on your own.
Possibly because they're marketing the policies to the lesser-educated and lesser-aware viewers.
You said save the monthly money if possible ...which has to be 100% possible if you pay the monthly payments anyway 🤔🤔🤔
@@coryjackson6034 LOL... you got me there! I salute your critical reading and logic skills. Well done!

The other thing worth looking into on these scam policies is if there is a cancellation penalty. Friends of ours experienced denied claim after denied claim for little loophole reasons after paying approx. $250/month for months. Understandably dissatisfied, they tried to cancel and were told that there was a cancellation penalty of $3,500. !!!! So keep your hand on your wallet around any of these companies that claim they'll fix your house or your car.

the only hope most customers of Car Shield have is that Hagens Berman (or someone like them) will file a class action against them for deceptive advertising and fraud. Car Shield reminds me of the Great Benefit Insurance company from "The Rainmaker" book.
Several years ago, my wife purchased a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder from Carmax. She purchased the Carmax extended warranty for around $1,200.00. The vehicle needed repairs and Carmax referred us to the local Nissan dealer instead of doing the repairs in house. Over time, the repairs wound up exceeding the initial cost of the warranty by several hundreds of dollars, but the warranty covered all the repairs without any deductible. In this case, the warranty was a good investment.
Yeah check out Doug Demuros Land Rover he bought from CarMax with warranty, he got his money's worth!
-- just wondering please : when it comes to replacing/replacements for any exterior body parts of That Same/2005 Nissan Pathfinder, where/what are some reliable sources recommend? Thank You in advance for any suggestions, etc.,
Most of these warranties aren't worth the paper they're printed on. They make money by denying claims. Better to set aside a monthly amount for maintenance and future repairs.
Yep, less claims taken out, more money. Literally the biggest thing is simple maintenance and leaving money for repairs. They aren't a warranty company, they are insurance corporations.
Wake up if they pay a star 1mil to promote car shield some has to shafted
Ice T should be ashamed of himself for hawking a product with an 'F' BBB rating... does he really need the money that bad?

Carshield not only denied a covered claim I submitted. They told me to please hold while I was talking to them. As I was on hold I carried on a private conversation with my wife. Then the lady after about 15 minutes came back on and told me about my wifes and my conversation and about my comments on warranty. I was not happy my private conversation was talked about by someone who dont know me. I requested cancellation of policy based on privacy issues. I was told I'd be reimbursed my month of fees. About $125.00 in total due back. 3 years later and many non returned phone calls, I've not gotten any funds returned.
Car shield makes the consumer pay for discovery even though a mechanic can diagnose it without tearing the engine down.
They pay for discovery if part is covered. Have to tear the engine down to fix anyways. The problem arises when the insured wants coverage guaranteed. A good mechanic would never make this something for their customer to worry about. Try asking a shop to vouch for the discovery if they diagnose a covered repair. Ponder your answer.
Their list of what's covered under "Electrical" is mainly a list of items that never need replacement. I can't think of a time in my life I had an AC blower switch, wiper motor or power door lock actuator fail. I think I may have had a power window motor fail at some time in my 50 years of car ownership, hardly worth paying even a hundred a month for.

@arthura.9061 I'll look into Endurance. Thank you. I never bought into it, but I didn't sign up because of a celebrity was doing the commercials. If it isn't that, he says he has all his vehicles covered by Car Shield. You know what, when he made that scripted claim, that should of told me something about the company! What kind of celebrity like Ice T rides around in a mediocre car as if he is working a 9-5?
For the amount you pay a month you could take that money and put it into a emergency fund
It’s easier to fool someone than it is to convince them they have been fooled
That's how Biden got elected...retard libtards
One easy way to check them out is to call your favorite repair place and see if they have ever had experience getting a claim settled from the big companies on TV and the web. Also ask if the repair shop will even work on your vehicle and accept all the grief to collect from them.
Some Car warranty companies want you to pay the tear down to inspect it or want to send the shop parts they supply and ship to them. No mechanic wants to tie up their shop space waiting for parts and then go through all the grief to collect.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, AND THANK YOU
I have Roadvantage extended warranty. Its been by far the BEST aftermarket warranty I've had. They have paid out over $24k in repairs the past 2 years.
Anything car-related: Dealership, car salesman, manufacturer's warranty, car mechanics, car anything is rife with crooks. I am 78 since birth and have had the experience of owning vehicles, for me and my family for 58 years. Do I qualify as an expert?
Take $139 a month put it in a savings account. At 12 months that’s $1,668 continue doing it. If you ever buy a new car, use the money for a down payment, a year out from the warranty ending, or when the car payments end, start the savings again. Don’t touch the money for anything else. The trick is not to get used to having that $139 a month as disposable income, you wouldn’t if paying Car Shield..
And think about it if you were paying into Car Shield, car doesn’t need repair, the money would be gone.
As for T Ice, are those his collection cars behind him? He never says what his babies are, and how many miles per car do collection items get? You really insure a car that gets less then 100 miles per year!
And frankly when you are in a certain $$$ tax bracket, you are wealthy, are you really going for this kind of warranty? I would say you do exactly like the first paragraph, become your own personal Car Shield company, paying into an account, draw interest, play the odds, reap the profits.
Ask, how many millions of ad money is spent? How many $139 per month payment is that? So where do they make their money?
I have found the harder, more, back to back, multiple channels a product, company advertises the more you should avoid them.
The thing to do is go to a repair shop, ask them their dealings getting approval. Do they delay, play phone, email tag, stretching out the process? You renting a car? For a repair that would day a 1-2 days, you rent a car for 2-4 weeks while the shop, and warranty shop goes back-and-forth, as what is covered, who gets stuck?
It’s finally denied, you get the rental fee, shop repair, and I hope you don’t get charged a daily car storage fee. You willing to take that risk?
See why you want to deal with yourself?
Read first paragraph.
Your car service savings idea is Right On! . . . and every penny is accounted for.
Another thing to consider is the fact that Ice T is a multi Millionaire.
He doesn't need Car Sheild. If his transmission goes out he just pays cash to fix it.
It's like Tom Selleck doing those reverse mortgage commercials. Why would Tom Selleck who probably owns $25M+ real estate ever take out a reverse mortgage on his home?
People like him don't take out any type of mortgage. They pay cash for their properties.
It's amazing how gullible the public is.
I am dealing with American auto shield due to a timing belt that broke at 15k that a shop replaced. American auto shield keeps coming up with a list of excuses. Our van has been at the dealership since December 1st. This is an interference engine and the valves are bent. My dealer sent the adjuster borescope pictures and they keep saying the valves aren’t bent. The adjuster knows ZERO about cars!🤬
Any time you have that time belt broke it's a mess with the head and need lots work. Those valves hit the piston so fast that it's like hitting it with a hammer. I would just put that money in a savings account and use it for repairs. Be way better off.
People should write to the owner of CarShield, Mark Travis.
... For those contemplating an Extended Warrantee or Protection coverage like "CAR SHIELD," Avoiding auto repair bills, let me share with you the plan my wife and I have:
With our plan, there is NEVER a Monthly payment or Deductible. It is only necessary to make a monthly payment after repairs have been performed. After 6 monthly payments, You are good to go, until you need another repair!... This plan also covers Frequent Oil changes and new tires! It will cover "High-Mileage Vehicles, no limit! Sounds too good to be true, Right?...😃 Easy-peasy!! Just apply for an account with Firestone or any other shop of your choice..... Why in the hell are folks getting talked in to buying repair insurance on their cars? Looks like a "slippery slope" to me...
Just last week, I had an issue with my A/C unit and I have a Car Shield plan, so I went to the dealership and asked them if they took Car Shield and they said they did. Car Shield covered my repair 100%; I just had to pay the $100 deductible which they tell you about in their commercial. If I hadn't had Car Shield, I would have been looking at about a $1200 repair out-of-pocket! I'd be interested in finding out what kind of plan these people had with Car Shield, i.e. Gold, Platinum, Diamond, etc... This could make the difference in whether or not their repair would be covered.
They need to talk about the one’s that are paying the lady said some actually pay !
That lady doesn’t even know to check the fuse inside the fuse box and maybe pay thousands of dollars for a blown fuse
If she had started saving that $139 per month payment when she first bought the car while it was under warranty, in 3 years she would have $5004 in savings that she could apply to an emergency auto maintenance fund. We really have to rethink money and how to make the best use of what we earn. That way, we won't get preyed upon by companies like this. As the old saying goes, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."
One of the lines said to Ice-T is "you've always been official." LOL, riiiight.

My mom had a HomeShield (Owned by the same company as Car Shield) warranty. It was transferred to her when she bought her vacation home. Her dishwasher broke and wasn't fixable so it needed to be replaced. She contacted Home Shield and was denied coverage because the GE dishwasher she had GE no longer made that exact model. Of course companies are going to change models over the course of a few years. So the fact that it was only covered for that exact model is ludacris. She then canceled the remainder of the contract and it took dozens of phone calls and over a year to get the refund.
I have Endurance and they are horrible!! I had the premier package they told me there’s a problem a problem with my drive axles and it is covered. But will not cover it because they think it could possibly be the struts so since they don’t know which is which the denied the claim.
Endurance can out endure you every time. They have the attorneys, they have the big pocket book. The laws are vague enough to make it very difficult and expensive to go after them. They win in the end. And if you quit paying, they recruit a new customer to scam. It is a Ponzi scheme.
Continue exposing these horrible companies
It says right on tv that they use used and rebuilt parts for the repairs, The quality of these parts is unknown.
Carshield Is Not Your Friend! If something breaks or fails. Your responsibile for showing up to date maintenance records, tear down cost, pictures to prove the part failure & then they will investigate it!
Many shops & dealerships Will Not Except Carshield.
Carshield goes by their own Labor Rates, not the National Labor Rates that all Shops go by! So you pay the labor rate difference! I'm trying to get an AC Replaced because my Compressor locked up, it just failed. It happens but Carshield is haggling & a month later work hasn't started! They want pictures, etc. The BBB used to give them an F rating. Now they don't even recognize Carshield anymore! Stay Away you've been warned!

ACTORS being paid to ACT. What a shocker.
Would never sell extended warranties and missed out on a lot of dealer profit. Think all these warranty companies are just a bunch of thieves.
Take that $139 put it in a savings account.
Just $139 x 12 months is $1,688.
If your car payment ending keep making the payment into that savings account or the $139.
Any surplus you can use when buying another car.
I once at work took out a $350 extended warranty, for a $3,500 plus printer.
Absolutely useless, stalked for a week, then without anyone looking at it, declared that part wouldn't have broken except by use, user.
Never was told what part, we couldn't have the printer down for weeks.
If they paid $81 million in 72,000 claims, that’s $112 per claim. Considering the customer paid monthly premiums and also a $100 deductible, this is a scam
Buy reliable cars, take care of regular maintenance as per the manufacture guidelines & have $1000-2000 in emergency savings. That amount of savings should take care of most issues minus an engine or transmission failure. Not to tick off anyone who owns these cars but American brands are not considered the more reliable cars. Not to say there can't be some exceptions but let's face it, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Kia, etc just have more reliable vehicles. If you have the means to afford repairs in exchange of having a particular brand/model, then go for it! My family used to be all American cars until the mid to late 80's when Japanese cars showed us the light. Can I say American cars have gotten better over the years? Sure but I still don't see the level of quality as compared to the other brands I have outlined.
Nissan and Kia are not reliable cars. I’d argue that American cars are pretty good nowadays except for Tesla. Toyota is best. Honda is decent.
She bought the Gold Package , not the Gold Tooth Package !
Call the television network and the advertisers .
If it's on a TV ad it's NO GOOD !!!
I think I'm going to check with a lawyer and see if i can sue them for harrasment. Every month, i get a flyer in the mail. I have called them and asked them to take me off their mailing list, and the guy starts going into a speal as to why I need Carsheild. So I just hung up.
Sourced parts are from the junkyard.
Stay far away from CarShield!
CAR SHIELD IS NOT AVAILABLE IN CALIFORNIA.. THANK GOD
WHY WOULD YOU BUY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM A CALL CENTER REP?
THEY'RE JUST READING A SCRIPT.
You summed it up perfectly💯 ... probably California cracked down on it for a reason. I live in Texas ... and in this state, any company can rip you off and get away with it, because Texas is about business and profiteering only, and nothing else ....
You're better off just trying to be careful with your money and save what you can so that you'll actually have the cash to go ahead and pay for it when it happens rather than just throw it away every month towards a service like this that most likely won't actually help you when you need it.

If you drive conservatively and you properly maintain your car, catastrophic breakdowns either never happen or are very rare. Most of the time, when a shop tells you, you need a $3000 repair, the true cause is only a $10 electrical connector or something. My point is, you don't need a car warranty plan to begin with
If you're looking for a trustworthy warranty, I strongly recommend buying one directly through the manufacturer even though it is more expensive. I have a GM issued warranty on my Cadillac which only cost me $1,900 for six years, and have used it a few times for expensive repairs such as CUE system replacement (about $2,400 fix) and a rear axle differential fix (at least $1,000). Total on both repairs only cost me $54 in deductibles when using the warranty. Car Shield, Everything Breaks, and other 3rd parties warranty just flat suck. Most repair shops hate dealing with these companies and don't partner with them.
"If a component is not listed in the contract, it is not covered". A component is a"part or component of a larger whole, especially a part of a machine or vehicle". There are thousands of parts in a vehicle and if the part you need is not in the contract , replacing it might cost you a bundle.
Car shield covers..the commercials they run,to pay the actors that get on TV to lie about! You pay for their lies!!
Never get an extended warranty that isn’t through the manufacturer.
I developed car problems out on the road and immediately contacted Car Shield for help and guidance. I was told my buddy's diagnosis of a faulty/shot timing belt-water pump were parts that my "Platinum" policy were covered and was told to get my car to the Honda shop. My Honda shop was near by and I got a tow in by my buddy. The problems started there. Honda told me that Car Shield "never covers anything". My car and I were stranded I had my service tech call and when he stated "they said you are not covered" I said there was something wrong and dialed my number to Carshield and passed the phone to him. Again, he claims he was told "NO". My car was stuck there and I needed a vehicle. I was forced to pay for parts and labor which I have been told over and over again were covered. I was forced to pay to get my vehicle out of the shop and I have gone through hell with conflicting information including that no one called in not me or honda to open a claim. DO NOT BE FOOLED. They give misinfo out consistently. Nothing was paid for, and now I am out for the auto repair as well as years of policy payments. I will write to BBB (who gives CarShield an F rating) FTC, and social media. So take it from me, not Ice-T. Carshield will do everything possible NOT to give you peace of mind when faced with expensive auto repairs as they claimed. I am furious and devastated.
As an actor, you get a script and that's pretty much it. You don't research the company reviews unless for some reason you want to. Ice T wouldn't have a clue. He might never even know about it unless someone points it out to him. And then it's a matter of legal right if he will post a video on his own social media, do to the contract that he signed when making the commercial.
How can people fall for these scams?
Iced Tea be saying you too dumb to diagnose CEL.
He does not have their warranty cover his cars. Ad never tells you his compensation is what covers his cars.
I'd purchased a vehicle last month from a dealership that offered WHEELZ for my $2800 extended warranty service. Last weekend, an engine mount let go. They won't cover it. Basically, you pay them. They take your money. That's it!🤬
