I'm hated on site for snagging other contactors while they're still on the job.
Sad that it's so common I see it daily now.
    Would love your job

Former builder here. No, no you should not buy a new build.
In my town, theyve built on marshland and former dumps. yes dumps. Methane. those houses are great.. if you dont have a spirit level.. they'll sink or blow up or become victim to toxic gases. Be careful people!!

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and there's a few towns here that were built entirely on reclaimed marshland before people realised it's a bad idea. There's a huge liquefaction risk in those areas, and they'd be the most dangerous areas to be in if there's a large earthquake.

What actually happens after such major snags are found? Surely they aren't knocking down walls and rebuilding them properly. Do they just find a different buyer who doesn't notice?

Depends if its life threatening stuff it's definitely redone and reported if it's small stuff it usually is aswell depending on company of course some are complete cowboys yoy can generally tell about quality just by the company who's building them without even looking at the house

      @@dfdrinkduff4606I rent one.
It is the shoddiest, flimsiest house I've ever had the displeasure of living in.
Ironically, it's a lovely house in a lovely neighbourhood.
But half the doors don't close, cracks in windows, French doors were inserted at an angle, so there's a big gap/draft, en-suite bathroom lock doesn't work (door installed wonky) and the rest of the room clearly built by a 15 year old.
Walls are paper thin with no effort at all to insulate. England isn't exactly an exotic, warm country.
Ofc not all builders are this bad. But I won't be buying a new build, that's for sure.

  • @SteveSmith-zo4ml

Laughing at the incompetence and carelessness is all good fun, but this is actually a serious issue. It has been for a long time and it’s getting worse. The house builders don’t care as long as they can sell them and neither does the government. Unless and until buyers stay away, nothing will change.

    • @nvelsen1975
      @nvelsen1975 4 месяца назад +2

By making the sewer pipe both lead to, way too small, so you have a standard size toilet drain, putting water into a small pipe. This won't fit, so pressure inside the sewer system builds and it pushes the water in the shower drain up.

More shocking than the quality of the finish is the medieval technology employed to construct those houses. I'm from Eastern Europe, and the new builds there are light years ahead of the UK. I don't understand British resistance to progress.

How has it come to this? This is why I would never buy a new build house because you'll find so many faults and then spend absolutely ages trying to get the companies to fix them.
I'd ask the government to chase these housing companies up. But, they're all in it together that's the problem.

Just a point on the subject of naming the perpetrators of apocalypse finishes; don’t know if you are aware of Cy Porter’s channel in the US doing the same content but despite being in the far more litigious USA he is taking a principled stand and naming the companies responsible. One tried to stop him and failed totally.
