      +azumanga Actually, I think I am the lucky one. I know so many great cooks whose families are picky eaters and refuse to eat their wonderful creations. That can be very discouraging. One of the reasons I learned to cook well was that my family was always willing to try anything (well, almost anything ;)

    Made this several times (along with your crêpes recipe) and LOVE IT! I just tried using very finely diced KUMQUATS in lieu of orange zest today and I can't recommend it enough! Kumquats taste more like oranges than oranges, and the bright, tart orange flavor they add to the sauce is far more complex than the variable flavor of zest. TRY IT if you can find them!

    Can we make flambeed orange sauce WITHOUT grand marnier? Will it work?

    • @helenrennie
      @helenrennie  5 лет назад +2

      it needs some liquor if you want to light it, but it doesn't have to be grand marnier. you can skip the liquor and the lighting part and it will still be a good sauce, but not nearly as complex as with liquor.

    • @helenrennie

      I see what you mean -- crepes aren't very porous (they are not like bread). The have the texture similar to pasta. So although this dish is very saucy, it doesn't seem soggy to me.

    These were EXCELLENT! ❤️
    QUESTION: When does the "zest from 1 navel orange" indicated in the recipe go into the orange sauce? Did you forget to mention it? It's certainly not the peel ribbons garnish you mention at the end. I'm guessing it goes in with the sugar and vanilla to allow for extracting maximum oil and flavor?

    • @helenrennie
      @helenrennie  3 года назад

      the zest and juice are combined right in the beginning. Here is the part of the video that says "let's dump the juice and zest into a skillet" ruclips.net/video/pD5BVl8ndjk/видео.html

      Funny, farmers plant the trees, help the trees grow, pickers collect the oranges, truckers haul the oranges, warehouses store and distribute the oranges, grocery stores sell the oranges, we go, buy them, with money we worked hard to get and bring home the oranges, we then make food with them.
      Then after all that, thank god for "his" provision ... that's silly.

      Funny here too. I was just expounding upon the 8-21-21...
      David & Goliath: A Biblical Battle | Full Documentary | Biography
      story
      Please enjoy the Bible's entire story about the philistine foreskin proof of the kills David & his men had made. I've never met a David that I didn't like, & @ age 69 there have been many. See their timeline 10:20
      David Marries Michal
      1 Samuel 18:24And the servants told Saul what David had said. 25Saul replied, “Say to David, ‘The king desires no other dowry but a hundred Philistine foreskins as revenge on his enemies.’” But Saul intended to cause David’s death at the hands of the Philistines. 26When the servants reported these terms to David, he was pleased to become the king’s son-in-law. Before the wedding day arrived, 27David and his men went out and killed two hundred Philistines. He brought their foreskins and presented them as payment in full to become the king’s son-in-law. Then Saul gave his daughter Michal to David in marriage.
