I heard the song in Deadpool 2, finished the movie and went straight to the car to look it up on RUclips. This version is freakin' amazing - his voice is still awesome.
I literaly cried when i heard this version for the first time
When played like this it changes the song's meaning and content. For us that grew up with the upbeat original it gives extra emotional depth.
"What makes this version of the song so sad and somber for me is how you can draw a parallel between the original and this version to real life. This is an old song, and if you notice, the crowd is full of people well into their adult years, they've grown old along with it. The original is fun, exciting, and full of energy, just like when you're a young teenager. This version is slowed down, the energy and "youth" of it is gone, but in its place is a tenderness and an almost haunting and melancholic tone to it, which is indicative of getting older. You slow down, you've expended your energy, you're less upbeat and reckless, but you're more aware, sensitive and tender, and what was once the youthful thoughts of invincibility and now replaced with a growing realization that you don't get to live forever, and time is short, growing shorter every day. Wow. This song just took me back to my teenage era. A-HA was one of the greatest bands of its time. The video was even impressive for its time. Many of the musicians of the 80's had great control of their high notes. Thank you for your reaction. And yes, please do the cover for this song

35 years waiting for Morten Harket , he's My dream handsome, good man, and this voice.
Imagine hearing this being played to my best friends funeral. It tells a story of our lives. We're in the mid 50s now. Just to get anyone to "take on me" means a whole lot more today than it did back in the 80s. A gentle touch. A warm hug. A tender goodbye. We're all going there in the end... that I know for sure.
Poetic beauty song unplugged. Even the non-live (not to take anything from the upbeat thing from it, it's still one of the greatest), but this takes it like another level in my head. Bonus points for you filling it with your voice. :)

Wow!! What a contrast to the original record track. So much more emotional and intimate with this version, the lyrics are so much more impactful and sung with a lot of emotion. The line " In a day or two " has an amazing twist to it that sounds so much better than the original. FYI there's a tele series called The Magicians that performed this song Acapella.
I guess the band had matured throughout the years. Besides this song is so iconic, they can have the luxury to perform it as they pleas 😊

I remember when i heard this on the radio in the sommer 1985 here in Oslo Norway when i was 15 before it was a hit, and thinking this is BIG there are going to bi big, and so they whent to london made this video for 12.000 usd that was a lot of money then, and they blow up. so great. even saw them in concert here at home 1986 and on a misic festival in Danmark 2000
they still make music.

This is such a different arrangement than the chart release with the unique video. Morten can't quite reach the high notes he did at that time, but this is very good, the lyrics can be heard more clearly.

I agree the meaning of the song is more important than the sound of the song. Plenty of songs sound catchy but mean very little if you really really listen. Then you have songs that do have great lyrics but have been hijacked by a terrible, if catchy interpretation. A good example is "Hand on your heart" by Kylie Minogue. Its a popular song but hard to take seriously. Then listen to the cover by Jose Gonzelas and suddenly you hear a beautiful and deep song.
