Are the Morbheg Knights the first instance of fighters with both the fly and mount runemarks? I always thought that they were effectively mutually exclusive. Looking at the rules I guess that if a fighter chooses to fly it gets to ignore the negative effects of the mount runemark, as flying during a move action means the fighter gets to move vertically without climbing. But if something prevents a Morbheg Knight from flying (e.g. they are carrying treasure, or there's a twist that grounds flying fighters) then it cannot climb.
Not sure if anyone realised this yet but Scrabbling Hordes actually makes The Grymwatch more relevant now. All of their fighters, aside from the leader, already have the minion runemark.
It depends on how many Morbheg you want to bring, and if you want to bring the leader or not. I think that for a 'normal' list you could probably comfortably bring 2x Knights and still have plenty of space for other things. Personally, though I like the leader and think that its a pretty good piece in itself, it's not really standing up to other sub-300 point fighters like Ogors or a Megaboss so I might be tempted to leave him at home and take cardinals/heralds as my heroes and then look at the normal Knights to fill out. Perhaps something like 1x cardinal, 2x Knights, Blessed Decapitator, 2x Cryptguard, 2x Ghouls?
@@OffMetaMusings Definitely agree about the leader version and the Decapitator -- hadn't thought about The Cardinal though, I was leaning more towards an archregent... Food for thought!!
I think that any of the two Herald or Cardinal would actually bring some decent utility to beastflayers that they otherwise wouldn't have access to (though as I said, I'm leaning more towards the cardinal for a generic pick). The Gorewarden's Teleport can bring Goul Gore-Squires with him because they have 12 wounds and actually aren't totally terrible so that might be a decent ghoul delivery system.
Thanks for the quick content! Mixed feelings as I loved some of the old stuff (esp vargulf and his triple) but overall great the GW support and development continues. Like your list. Think I’ll start with gorewarden, cardinal, Morbeg champion, 2 guards and 3 ghouls
Many thanks :) Yeah I think that there is some good scope in the list itself for some interesting builds. Personally I need to trawl through the rest of the Death GA lists to see which 12 wound or less fighters I can use the Gorewarden with
Is abhorrent archregent and crypt haunter still worth taking as allies for royal beastflayers warband with these changes in place? If not is gorewarden and a cryptguard a good replacement?
Considering that Chosen of the King doesn't exist anymore, you would be taking those two specifically for their statline and new abilities so I don't necessarily think that they are worth taking as a pair anymore. The Gorewarden is a decent option however, becuase it's teleport not only allows you to bring cryptguard captains with him but also everything up to a Ghoul-Gore Squire. I'd seriously consider taking a single Squire to go with the Gorewarden and also take either a Herald or Cardinal as an ally for some more utility.
I think the +15 points on the Vhargulf suck. I just have made a list with beastflayer baron, royal flaymaster, archregent, vhargulf and 4 ghoul trackers to make exactly 1000 points. The Vhargulf missing the fly runemark for 1 attack destroys this list completely, since i needed a highly manouverable big model (vhargulf) and a lot of small ones to let the flaymaster hit with high spike damage (ability)
On the one hand, all the big stuff went up in points but yeah, I totally understand your frustrations about the varghulf as I've got one fully converted up to go with my Nighthaunt that now needs a rework.
I actually think that they are a decent comparison with eachother. the Fly on the champion along with it'd double to disengage and move are pretty good. Sure it doesn't have the attack spike that varanguard have but i don't think its all doom and gloom
@OffMetaMusings I dunno man, the fly is nice and all for getting up where a varanguard can't climb, but for -1t, -5w, and a considerably lower damage ceiling, I could never use one for what it costs. If it were 30w I'd say it's reasonable, but not 25. I can't think of any proper titan that won't have a chance of oneshotting it. It will lose to a fomo or a myrmidon, annihilators will beat it into pieces, I just can't see it justifying it's price point over a normal knight.
This is true! I think overall this is great. I think that the Ally potential for death is really sweet, and I think it gives a lot of options for people to think about when list building. I think losing chosen of the king gets rid of a lot of viability with the crypt horrors/haunters, and I personally think they all should have gone down a little bit after losing such a big damage buff. Aside from the cardinal and gorewarden abilities, I feel like our best double is probably just onslaught at this point. While it’s a little sad I think, I also appreciate that it makes our options feel more compelling. Before, you couldn’t really do a lot in just FEC without crypt horrors and archregents and ghoul kings. They’ve made them a little less necessary by giving all heroes access to the abilities, but they get better if you pick them. Overall, interesting changes.
I feel like at the very least there are some interesting builds to be had with the new FEC; The old lists seemed like they were largely solved so a shakeup is a nice thing to have (and I would have never picked up FEC before, but I've literally just finished a Gorewarden conversion that I'm waiting to try out)
Ugh, this is so frustrating. I just recently got into Warcry and your channel has been immensely helpful. I built a VARGHULF COURTIER, ABHORRANT GHOUL KING , x2 CRYPT HORROR, and x3 CRYPT GHOUL per the list you highlighted. What tweaks to the above list do you suggest accommodating the new changes? Thanks!
Many thanks for the compliment :) For your list, it comes to just over at 1005 points which I'm sure is real annoying. The easiest thing to transfer your list over I think is to take a look at the Ghoul king which is probably the weak link (alot of people are hating on the Varghulf but I feel like it's decidedly OK). It's a fairly easy swap to turn him into a Cardinal or Herald to get the points down to sub-1k and give a little utility (Cardinal is my favourite of the two). Normal Horrors did get that points break so I think that they are decent.

Yeah that's my reading of it aswell.
I'm currently painting Royal Beastflayers and preparing a few other dudes from AOS FEC as an ally. The 'royal' flavor of this faction is hilarious. ;)
This is awesome - but they really need to start releasing rules for new models in Warcry (eg Gloomspite)
Not sure if anyone realised this yet but Scrabbling Hordes actually makes The Grymwatch more relevant now. All of their fighters, aside from the leader, already have the minion runemark.
oh hey! thats a real good point!
The varghulf also dropped to 1" range 😢 having just spent a couple weeks painting one to go with Beastflayers, sad at how hes been gutted
I mean, it could still be good if you play on skyscraper maps?
Hopefully we will see new Skaven models and Warcry rules soon! Thanks very much for this video!
I hope so too! Many thanks :)
I'm trying to theorycraft a list around the Morbheg Knights (aka Bumper Cars). What would your gut instincts be for them?
It depends on how many Morbheg you want to bring, and if you want to bring the leader or not. Looks very fun! Do you see any of these new heroes allying well with the royal beast flayers?

That’s not something you hear everyday, “ decent- ghoul- delivery- system.”
I love it hahaha

Not a lot of dice face abilities...quad 1's super strong. Marrowscroll Herald, 1 roll per activation, that could be a lot of rolling.

Quite keen on adding the Gorewarden to my Beastflayers. And I just hope that Seraphon and Slaves to Darkness also get an update soon!
Fingers Crossed!
I just look at the morbheg champ, and then I look at a Varanguard, and then I shed a tear.

I really hope they keep doing these updates. So many new models I’d love to play in Warcry.
I hope so to. It feels pretty nice to get support at the same time as AoS
I was really hoping that we’d get rules for all these new models. I’m a little skeptical of some the changes, but looks fun overall
I personally think that the release has done wonders for the Death ally pool
This is true! I think overall this is great. I think that the Ally potential for death is really sweet, and I think it gives a lot of options for people to think about when list building. Theridons?
Hah, we can only hope!
Shame no rules for the new snake model or the intestines judge
they are both named characters unfortunately so they'll never get warcry rules :(
Yeah. I hoped with things like underworlds and the blacktalons they may develop that (1 per warband style). An angle for them to sell more models
It’s beautiful!!! 😭😭😭😂😂😂
