That serves the supervisor right. It's one thing to not discriminate someone for their skin colour but it's okay to use race as a general descriptive term.
the irony of trying to be so anti racist that you end up being racist by specifically implying that acknowledging someones skin color is in itself racist as if to be black in itself is so problematic that it cant even be mentioned.
Worked with two guys who had the same name (let's say Adam) and the same job position, but one was black and the other was white. Had a customer call in and asked for Adam, so I asked which one because we have two. Customer said the job position, and I said they both worked the same position. Customer took a moment, then asked for the ivory one. We then referred to them as Ebony Adam and Ivory Adam.
you *should* "see" people's skin colour and race. you shouldn't treat them negatively or strangely because of that though seeing them is seeing their struggles in society and you can call attention to the injustice they endure and strive to be better
I worked in a warehouse where I (black female) and a black man was were the only two black people amongst a sea of coworkers. One day while I was a temp and not knowing everyone’s name quiet yet, described him as the black guy with a bald head. I got chewed out. 😂 like bro it’s the easiest way to tell you who I am talking about and I’m black myself. It was so dumb.
Their skin wasn't used as a means to insult them. Your skin color helps your description, missing people posters and notifications use their skin color too. Also this just seems like a means to be in control.

Not "seeing" colour is actually a form of racism. It causes people to turn a blind eye to racism and causes people to ignore and/or devalue the experiences of poc. It can also lead to necessary adjustments not being made. For example some sensors for hand dryers don't detect darker skintones well (or even at all sometimes) and that would go ignored by someone who "doesn't see colour"
racist hand dryer? this just show how dumb you are (they work by heat(ir) not any optical sensory). > to see no color is the only way to end racism as long as you make differences in skin color you enduce racism (in medical context you may need to aknowledge color / race ,for us german "ethnicity"). Critcal race theory is still just a theory.
@RaccoonRecluse Not necessarily. Whitewashing is misrepresenting other cultures (usually that of black culture) as if it were part of white culture. This may include cultural appropriation (not to me confused for people who are simply exploring or taking part in a cultural activity). People who whitewash can be described as people who, 'don't see colours.' But there are more moving parts to that argument than just that.
I can't stand people like that, being called black isn't offensive especially when you're just describing someone. As long as you don't treat me like im lesss than you, call me the N word out of pure hate towards my race, disrespect me, or accuse me of committing a crime based on a stereotype without evidence, i can put up with most things people say about mr.
i dont really get the problem reffering to someone as black isnt racist, descriminating against them for it or saying it with a disgusted tone is racist
So you see all customers as equal until theyre called black? Isn't acting like race makes someone lesser than more racist than mentioning their colour as a description?

I wonder if her reaction was the same if OP said „that one old white man“
Should have tested that 😂 got fired anyway so what would it hurt

Race shouldn't matter, but its very useful to tell someone about someone else who none of you know.
There's a reason we have differences and descriptors. It's so that we can differentiate things.
It's just community making a small misunderstanding

If its used to just describe someone and not used in a negative way why is it an issue
