It depends, the jungle isnt necessarily the best when at any moment you can literally be eaten alive in your sleep. A giant sanctuary though would be nice but literal home to them means getting eaten alive at any point and constantly having to look for food or die of starvation. Remember if the jungle life was so great our ancestors never would have moved out of it and be tribal people forever. Sometimes living in a cushioned ideal life gets us detached from what it actually feels like living out of society. Bugs, snakes, predators, disease, dirty water, aint a vacation 😅

Cats truly are. It take literally no time to train them at all, but I won’t go on too much about sitting, paw, shake, sit, spin, up, lay, bear, and roll over in two weeks with not too many sessions. I really hate thinking about the fact that we could be anything like monkeys. Part of me saying all of that is I’ve tried and have trained bloody dogs. It’s exhausting. Training cats is worth it. Sit and lay is very important. Lay saved my last cat’s life because of his medicine. Sit is just nice because they obey you.

Sad thing is that the zoo is a safer environment for them. They are better off in there. Their natural habitat is being torn down and replaced with palm oil trees. They don't have a home to go back to. The landowners and foresters will kill orangutans on sight. Thats why Orangutans are an endangered species. At least we can keep them safe in zoos and sanctuaries. Otherwise, they will go extinct. So dont think of zoo's or sanctuaries as a prison, think of them as the last lifeline for a lot of species.
I am a veterinarian and biologist and I have had the privilege to work with orangutans and am currently finishing my tour in Indonesia at the moment with them. The sanctuary I am operating in only houses these animals if they have defects that prevents them from having a good chance of survival in the wild, meaning we have some that have walking problems or cognitive issues from fights with other apes, or simply just too old orangutans that are at risk of being beat by younger and stronger apes. They love interaction and attention and they always sit in front of me when I enter their large habitat enclosures. The rest will sit right next to me like we are around a campfire and there is one elegant lady called Pokey that likes to ruffle my hair when she sees I have combed it tidy before work 🤦♂️🤣🤣 they are very intelligent animals and definitely have the same sarcastic and playful instincts as us.

Sad thing is that the zoo is a safer environment for them. They are better off in there. Their natural habitat is being torn down and replaced with palm oil trees. They don't have a home to go back to. The landowners and foresters will kill orangutans on sight. Thats why Orangutans are an endangered species. At least we can keep them safe in zoos and sanctuaries. Otherwise, they will go extinct. So dont think of zoo's or sanctuaries as a prison, think of them as the last lifeline for a lot of species.

I am a veterinarian and biologist and I have had the privilege to work with orangutans and am currently finishing my tour in Indonesia at the moment with them. The sanctuary I am operating in only houses these animals if they have defects that prevents them from having a good chance of survival in the wild, meaning we have some that have walking problems or cognitive issues from fights with other apes, or simply just too old orangutans that are at risk of being beat by younger and stronger apes. They love interaction and attention and they always sit in front of me when I enter their large habitat enclosures. The rest will sit right next to me like we are around a campfire and there is one elegant lady called Pokey that likes to ruffle my hair when she sees I have combed it tidy before work 🤦♂️🤣🤣 they are very intelligent animals and definitely have the same sarcastic and playful instincts as us.
