We have a presa that comes in to the doggy daycare I work at. He’s well behaved but the power behind that dog is no joke
I’m surprised a doggy daycare even accepted a breed like a Presa Canario. Most doggy daycares only take on little toy dogs like poodles and poodle mixes- cockapoos, cavapoos etc. Even Golden Retrievers get turned down because they’re too large. Most places prefer small dogs because they can walk more, as much as 4+ per walk.
My Presa was found on the streets... a few facts.
1. She is 130lb of "fk around and find out"
2. I had to buy a bigger bed.
3. She is the best dog I have ever had. She is the sweetest and most gentle dog I have ever owned. She will try to push the limit, but a firm correction gets her right back in line.

@@caleb3909these dogs are just different. Just like cane corsos or dogo argentinos. They’ll try to test your alpha constantly and they will shit on you if you let them lol
I have a female Presa, a male Doberman, and also a male Rott, and lets just say they are some nights I don't even bother to check if the doors are locked. The way they work as a team is wild.

I like this guy overall. my father is also a professional dog trainer and i definitely love doing it as well but 90% of what this guy says is straight facts though guy definitely knows his shit and knows how to deal with strong dogs
As a proud Presa Owner these dogs are amazingly loyal and loving with their family. Very stubborn and ultra protective. Compared to my Rottie not as easy to train. But the affection they show towards their family pack is something remarkable
Yes! I have two Presas and words cannot explain how much I love them. Best dogs I’ve ever owned! Lots of training but it is completely worth it

I have three Presas and you described them accurately.
No offense, but the dog lives with you, of course it's gonna be "sweet and loving.". Your neighbors may not think so.
My Presa is a handful but he loves me to no end, I socialized him with everyone and sent him to obedience training young, 5 or 6 months not sure which but if you get one this is a absolute must unless you are skilled yourself, they will try to be alpha if you don’t get a handle on it

I want to say this to many dog owners: If you get this dominant and independent dog to be cool, tough or feared by dominating this dog and expect him to be aggressive he probably will and it is your kids he will bite. Why do so many people get the wrong dog? This is a dog made for hunting and guarding a farm. It's not a dog for weak men wanting to be cool.

Same here. My boy is 7 months old.
Mine just turn a big 1 year old today and weigh at 110 lbs.
We haven't been to the vet since he was 5 months old and he was 70 lbs at that time. I can only imagine what he weighs now.
Where I'm at . I had to get him registered and proof of vaccination and plus he is my emotional support dog and hard of hearing too

I breed them, aside from guarding/territory defense....dog/animal aggression is another element to deal with, that said they usually do not start things, but rest assured they will engage if challenged. In the right situation, with the correct owners they are the best(and love thier family, also very intelligent).
I’ve never owned a more intimidating and cuddly dog in my life. They are great Buddys and even better at protecting our home

I had a ton of this guys when I was in my early teen years..they were the kindest, most lovable good boys and girls
First, that’s a beautiful puppy. Second, Presa Canarios are my favorite dog breed and probably the only breed I’ll own for the rest of my life. Everything Garrett said is pretty accurate. It’s a big strong breed. They are stubborn and independent. They naturally guard, no training needed. Now with work, love, and discipline they will be the best dog you’ve ever seen. Smart, loyal, loving, and fun. I had my dog professionally trained. I spent 18-20 hours per day with him as I was able to take him to work with me. I exposed him to many people and places right from day one. Amazing dogs.
The only downside is they are banned in countries such as mine
Why doyouprefer the Presa Canario over the Cane Corso? What are the differences?
@@LeviHeatonIII I have a couple things. 1, less drool. It is a substantial difference. 2. Cane Corso tend to be taller and the Presa is a bit more agile and lighter on its feet. Lastly and maybe most importantly, I just love the colors of the Presa. The tiger stripes (brindle) are awesome. Both are excellent dogs.
As I was about to hit send I thought of another important difference. Many Cane Corso have boxer bred in. I just don’t like the look of those lines. Most good breeders are trying for a more authentic Cane Corso but that Boxer influence is out there. Presa Canario are not as popular as Cane Corso and therefore don’t have as much pressure on the breeders.
THATS EXACTLY HOW I DID MINE… from the jump he went everywhere with me & was very socialized… lol stubborn at home when he didn’t wanna do things but a model dog citizen when we were in public
@@VisualThoughtsMedia the best thing was he had no fear. Thunder, no problem. Fireworks, no problem. Trucks, no problem. The only thing my dog avoids is water. He can swim because I’ve thrown him in the pool, he just doesn’t like it. He even doesn’t like the hose. Just not a water dog. He also doesn’t like to dig or play fetch. You throw a ball or a stick and he will not even twitch, he’s just like yeah good throw dude.
This is literally my dream dog 😍

My cousin had one she was the sweetest most gentle dog and smart harmless
My Presa was a rescue (surrendered because of aggression). She had a lot of anxiety and reacted out of fear. She was put on CBD to calm her anxiety (worked great) and with some training and trust building, she became a loyal, gentle guardian. She’s still very stubborn, but she is a great dog. My parrot loves her and she’s really good with him. She loves other animals and is well mannered and sociable. She would be a real brat if I was not very firm with her though, she loves soft surfaces and would take over if she didn’t have clear rules.
Could you do a video about Rhodesian ridgebacks? Not many professional dog trainers talk about this breed and I would be interested to know if you have ever worked with the breed. I have one of these breeds and every trainer from my country (Germany) says it is a breed that ONLY listens to prositive training, which doesn't apply to mine. It is an extremely stubborn and robust dog that would only show you the middle finger if given only positive training. Despite everything he listens to me well at the age of 9 months. But I also trained him myself without help from my local dog trainers.

They are way tougher than the Corso. They are more like a pitbull on steroids.
Nah, more like a Corso on steroids. A Corso is way stronger than a pit bull to begin with.
Just like the pit bull, the Presa Canario was bread for fighting centuries ago in the Canary Islands. They are very huge dogs and they can be aggressive and mean. They even killed a woman in San Francisco some years ago. Its like having an M1 tank for a pet. It's not a dog for the suburban setting if you have a nice house with the white picket fence. They're a big ball of energy and they will tear apart your sofa and the rest of your furniture. Having them professionally trained is a must. They will not back down to anyone or anything. They can and will tear a Pit Bull to shreds.
We have a presa and he's almost 3 years old now and he's attitude has never changed since he was a baby, still playful and humble. I never regret we bought him as a family dog❤
Ir sucks to not be able to own a specific dog in certain living situations. Cane Corsos aren’t allowed anywhere 😢
Because they are dangerous. All big dog breeds are. Practically big dogs should be banned in all homes Expect those with a yard that is Well fenced that the dog cannot jump over. Dog bites and attacks are very very common. The striking majority of owners cannot handle big dogs thus leading to dogs attacking people. Banning all big dogs in Metropolies,cities is completely understandable.
Big dogs should be in big yards with ample space and big fences to stop them from escaping.

I used to know several people in PA that owned them. Some were actually registered therapy dogs. The Rott club I belonged to then did an annual show. We had a special temperament test done, on any breed.
A young Cane breeder started coming and bringing his pups (had to be 18 mo to test). Every single one he brought passed with flying colors.
And us crazy Rottie people had a ball loving all over them.

@@blueflare3848 True.. This as an option can be made as having potential owners pass several tests in order to buy a dog. If a candidate wants to buy a dog both big and small they should pass several tests called the dog license (similar to driving license) to see which people are fit to train, love and keep their dogs for the whole lifespan of their dogs. They should also add a breeders licenses so breeders without the license will get punished by law.

I got a presa for my first dog and Huey has taught me so much about myself improved my on the fly decision making and social skills. (Sounds weird but I had a Tbi and started to become more of an introvert than I would’ve liked and had a litany of issues from the parachute accident)
Luckily I had a lot of time to spend with him and though he’s stubborn he’s amazing and everyone in the neighborhood loves his temperament; but you also have to know which dogs you just need to avoid.
We love our presa! She’s a great puppy so far- definitely already charges when she senses danger or noises.
Struggling to rent right now because of my GSD. I finally found ONE place (where we currently reside) that allowed him with no extra pet fees or anything. And it has a fenced backyard and is down the road from my parents (same neighborhood) and sons school! I got very lucky. But the only way we can move is if we BUY a house, and it’s not feasible at the moment considering the market is trash and I refuse to buy a newly built house built anytime past 2020
I got myself a Presa at 26inch shoulders at 10 month and honestly the images they use on the net make them look 10x bigger 😂 very powerful but also incredibly calm and calculated.
Man I fell in love with this breed but I knew it wasn't the time to get one, one day I will. Sad thing is I see a lot of owners selling their one year old presa because they couldn't handle the dog.
Yup. Usually people get these dogs to look bad ass. It’s funny. It’s always the same type of owners. Trashy people who are trying to compensate. They absolutely f the dog up for a year and when they have a fully grown aggressive dog with absolutely no obedience, that dog is probably going to be put to sleep because someone wanted to look tough.
What’s your opinion on Australian shepherds? The ones I’ve had are kinda unruly but very protective!
My father in law has 2, he lives on 5 acres with chickens and goats, they chase them like no other, they are amazing dogs, be prepared to work them

I have 5 Aussies as well. They range from aloof and laid back to the canine version of standing on tables singing show tunes. As with any herding breed, I recommend giving them a job. Otherwise, they will find one and you wont like their selection. 🤣🤣

I've seen a few of these in the city when I used to do pest control. Each one of them was out of control and scary as heck. I mostly blame the owners.

Live in countryside I've seen people use them to hunt black bear and mountain lions. This dog is the equivalent of a 200 LB Marine just getting off deployment. GIVE HIM SOMETHING TO DO.

Can't remember the exact year. Mid 90s. In Lafayette CA a woman was killed by 5 Presa in an apartment complex. Owner was tried for murder.

Very good dog and i do agree not for appartements..take a good bloodline for example Irma Curto bloodlines..
We have an xl bully cross presa canaria, she walks side by side every member of my family and our friends during walks, she let's our springer puppy walk all over her. The only thing we've been struggling with is when we go on walks, she gets over excited on any patch of grass and loves to sprint on it
We live in the countryside and whenever she sees grass she pulls out of her lead and runs away, she always comes back to us but the locals are really worried since she looks a little scary even tho she's lovely

I love my Presa Canario. Most breeders today are breeding for size but if you get a proper one they are much smaller. My female is 85lbs and moves like a cat how they should

My neighbor had one and thankfully he never allowed the dog in the dog park and hired a trainer to constantly train it. I never went near the dog with my own dog because the owner was a skinny guy. Not sure he would have been able to handle him if a fight occurred.

Question: instead i am in love with the Italian Cane Corsos which a slightly just a bit calmer breed i guess (i live in Italy) and iam aware thatthey are strongand not adviced for first time.owners. If i have the time and energy,as a present non dog owner, can i train a cane corso ...do i have a chance?I am a small sized lady.l,but i think governance is about a dog being well trained and not around the size of the owner..or yes?😊

They are gorgeous, another thing to consider is that unless it is a service dog, your homeowners insurance will go up significantly! I am buying a house and had to get insurance I have 3 GSD’s and a St. Bernard. Two of GSD’s are service dogs, one is handicapped and they weren’t concerned

Debating between a Rottweiler, Dogo, or presa. The presa is just such a good looking dog. Don’t really like the corsos eyes. The presa has a gorgeous face and head shape.
