    Really fun video! Glad to hear you're restoring. The rides with the large bulbs look the best.

    Wish you explained more around the mechanism that made the lights flash! That looks interesting!

      I will be sure to cover that when I get around to cleaning it up! Thanks for watching!

    On projects like that look into
    Super chrome. Its a powder coat that looks like chrome. They also have coatings that look like alum. Nicole. Brass. You name it they have it. For a project like that it would last forever and it fills light pitting.

    New subscriber here. Found your content as I am researching a scale project I want to build. I want to make a scale Ghost train façade. Including an animated LED sign. But everything carnival/funfair is fun time for me. Wonderful content Pete.

    I think you should stay with incandescent lights. Colored LED bulbs just look freaky.

      I tend to agree with you. I think I"m going to stick with the incandescent bulbs but go for the plastic caps for appearance and ruggedness.

      Incandescent are classic…just nothing like them. Good job.

    Another great video. You should be able to find the 3 point chaser and sockets from a sign supply company like N.Glantz and Son.

    What are you going to use between aluminum and steel?

  • @rickhiggins
    @rickhiggins 3 года назад +2

    It's a shame you don't have a big tent size sandblaster. That would save you a whole lot of time on the paint stripping. Great video!

      Lol, spoke too soon! You mentioned it moments after I typed it!

      I'm still not giving up on the stripper.. I just hate suiting up for blasting, especially in this heat

    Looking good Pete!! not sure how far you got on the aluminum..You might want to check out some of the aircraft products.. they work awesome, we used them on dulled diamond plate on a few fire trucks & they came out like a mirror..keep up the great work!!

    Pretty awesome. A park in my state has a Rocket ride. Only other one I've ever seen. Look up Stricker's Grove in Ohio :D

    if i may could ask what brand and modal no on that gearbox is im trying to find one

    • @PeteRondeau
      @PeteRondeau  2 года назад

      It was made by a company called "Abart Gear & Machine Co" of Chicago. They are long out of business and they became part of a company called Cleveland Gear through some sort of acquisition or merger. What might help more are the specs to see if it can be cross referenced somewhere. It is a model 26-U with a gear ratio of 9.66 and an input speed of 1750 RPM and an output torque rating of 1093 Inch pounds. Cleveland Gear's closest current match would be something from their "M" series with a 10:1 ratio. They have an online catalog here: www.clevelandgear.com/wp-content/uploads/410.pdf

    Do you have any idea what the finished ride will look like? I’ve tried searching the ride name up, without any results.

      There isn’t much online. This is the best example I found outside of some private forums. (The owner is also a great guy who has supplied me with a lot of info when I had questions) These are missing the fins and things on the cars that give it a very retro feel and make them look more like rockets. www.ddputtingandamusements.com/photo2_11.html

      I have added a picture from the original ride brochure to my blog, you can find that here: peterondeau.com/2021/03/21/vintage-carnival-ride-restoration/supersonic-rocket-brochure/
