    The Ropeman 2 should ONLY be used with a way smaller diameter rope (one that won't fit in a Ropeman 1) and one with a bad ass sheath like the PMI Extreme Pro rope.

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  2 года назад +1

      Yep. I'm not a fan of the rope man 2. The original ropeman 1 is the way to go

    Got the ropeman 1 !! I saved the search on eBay and they notified me when one was available. It actually came from backcountry through eBay. It's so light and works so nice. I thought the prusik would be good enough. Well, after a few climbs and needing a third arm to adjust my prusik the ropeman came up on eBay and I couldn't click the "buy now" fast enough. Btw, I'm using 8mm for my rope and this still works well. I have the 11mm pmi that you recommended but I already had the 8mm set up so I tried it with the ropeman. Thanks again !

    I can't find the ropeman 1 anymore. And now it seems they have a mk1 as the new replacement but I can't find it in the u.s. anywhere. I searched google, eBay, and Amazon. The mk2 is out there but it has the finer teeth like the ropeman 2.

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  8 лет назад

      Rich Fleeson the mk1 is the original rope man. it's always out of stock this time of year for some reason. I have run into the same thing almost every year. I am also in need on one for a friend and can't find one. usually back county.com gets them back in stock pretty quick. call them and ask when they are expecting them. but this is normal every year it seems.

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  6 лет назад

      I would not personally for 2 reasons. 1 you should not disconnect the line and belt until you have already connected the safety line. 2 for a line that is going to have as much slack as your safety line I'd rather have dynamic rope and a simple prussic knot. The dynamic rope acts almost like a bungie cord and lessens the shock.

    How did you go about dying the rope? I saw videos that say to heat the water, put the rope in a washer then a dryer. Quite a lot just to dye rope. I would think you put it in the dye, let it soak awhile and done.

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  6 лет назад +1

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  7 лет назад

      Dale Arnsdorff yes I leave the asender on the rope and carbiner all year. doesn't hurt anything. had one I left like that for 6 years and only replaced it as it was lost in a truck fire. otherwise I'd still be using that original and it would be 12 years old now...bet it would still be working perfectly

  • @mikelangford1835
    @mikelangford1835 6 лет назад +6

    You're 100% wrong about the knot "Not going anywhere". You need a real stopper knot like a fishermans and a better knot on your working end like a fugure of 8. Seriously, knots behave differently under working load amd shock load. It's no more work to di it right amd learning new knots is cool.

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  6 лет назад +5

      its not a loadable knot at that end. the ascender does all the work and takes all the shock. the only reason that stopper knot is there is so that I dont let out too much slack when im adjusting my lenght on the linemans belt. for that it works perfect and is nice and compact. but just for the record i did test it by putting the rope thru a steel tiedown cleat and hanging from it bounching up and down. it never budged. im very happy with how i have it. the other knots are big and bulky and not needed at that end. That end is not a "working end" the ascender is the working end. the knot is on the tag end that has no purpose except to allow slack in or out.

    • @hoggif
      @hoggif 5 лет назад +1

      Agreed. Even if one may consider it a nonloading knot, it can get to a loaded knot if for example rope slips a bit due to shock loading. I'd not feel safe with a simple overhand knot.

    Do you know if the hunter safety lifeline rope will work with this ascender? I’m unsure of the size of the rope, I called hunter safety and they didn’t know/didn’t want to tell me the size.

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  6 лет назад

      The ropeman 1 is for 10-13mm rope and the ropeman 2 is for 8-11mm rope. Dont know what size the lifeline is. But honestly for a life line that you are just sliding up and down as you go to a preset stand I would just use the Prussia knot on the life line. The ascender value comes in with a linemans belt used to hang stands.

    How exactly do you dye your rope? Do you just leave it warm water, or do you dye it in boiling water with dye?

    • @jcam6809
      @jcam6809 9 лет назад +2

      +pNoid2k1 When I brought the Rit dye I followed directions on the bottle. I used hot water and soaked past the recommended time (in a bucket). The dye doesn't really take as well as I wanted but it does knock down the bright white original color. I tried dyeing twice but no real improvement in darkening the rope. I certainly wouldn't let that influence the decision to not go through the steps to dye it. Good luck.

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  9 лет назад

      +pNoid2k1 Joseph said it perfect. just follow directions on the bottle. the rope is so tight it wont turn it a dark brown but will make it a nice earthy color. (i used dark brown dye).

  • @TheLoobis
    @TheLoobis 5 лет назад +1

    5:25 Why did you dye the rope?

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  5 лет назад

      Because the rope I bought was White in color and I wanted to tone it down a bit. If you buy colored rope you are all good and no need to dye it. I bought my my rope as a 200 foot bulk piece as I knew I would be making these for friends as well. so the dye solved my problem of a bright white rope.
