Great story! Upwork is definitely not easy for new freelancer. I got my first job on upwork by finished the job first and attached the final result in proposal, I'm a web developer.

Under rated channel, you have great cadence and delivery, I've been on upwork for A YEAR and have only 1 fulfilled video editing job, it's really hard and can be very frustrating for sure.

Great video! I really appreciate the honest story about your experience with Upwork. It's so easy to get the impression from successful editors that it's easy to get work via these platforms & be busy, so it's good to get a dose of reality before deciding to jump in or not.

Thank you for your honesty about the time it takes to find success on Upwork. I’ve been applying to jobs for a month now and have had two small jobs outside of my field of architectural and technical drafting. Those jobs were for a virtual and a research assistant, and I also had one interview with a client needing drafting services that had to be delayed for a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed 🤞🏽on that one. I have one five star rating and some funds earned from the research assistant job that I use to buy more connects for future proposals. It’s been slow going but I’m determined to work on getting my ratings up. I have a solid portfolio of work but the same way I’m skeptical of sending a proposal out to an unverified, new the the platform client, I’m sure that a client feels the same looking at my profile. But I’ll keep at it. Loosing two in-office jobs in six months is my sigh that I need to go my own way and I’m not looking back.
WOW thanks for sharing your story here! I sympathize on that delayed client. Ugh. So frustrating feeling like you’re just waiting around for everything to come together. But it sounds like you’ve got the right attitude to push through that phase of freelance and really start building up some good work for yourself! I’m excited for you :)

I really liked your video, especially the message you share. It's not easy to start on Upwork and find your first job. I've been searching for a few months now and still haven't had any success. I'll keep trying. 💪
It can take a LONG time to get a job on Upwork, which can be really frustrating! Definitely worth it to keep trying and look into other ways to find jobs as well :)
I recently got started on upwork thanks to Colleen's videos! I made sure to know the platform inside and out before jumping in. Since I knew it would be super competitive I asked a family member to be my first client USING THE PLATFORM. That's the easiest way to establish credibility and be able to show my best work (cuz I got to choose what I wanted to create as my first project)- plus family will always leave stellar reviews. If upwork is a game then we gotta be good players
Also, I got my second client pretty much RIGHT away after getting my first review.
But do I got money? nope. not yet 😅 But its only cuz I'm staying away from low-ball offers!

I just started using this website after freelancing for sizeable youtubers in a team for 12 months, I see myself as an Intermediate level on the website, and my Portfolio projects reached high Engagement and CTR, but no one has taken me so far. What am I doing wrong? Tips & Tricks would be of great help, or maybe a link to one of your videos. I'm especially stumped about Cover Letters haha

do you now how to apply to a job without paying or it is normal to pay to apply to a job in upwork?
great video, you have natural skill at talking, i just created my profile at upwork but is very difficult for me because to apply to a job i have to pay connection they give me 100conection for 15 bucks but evert apply to a job is 15 conection i dont now if this is normal or you can just find job without paying
I belief you get some free “connects” when you sign up, but unfortunately, Upwork has been moving towards forcing people to put more money in to apply for jobs, which I do not like and am moving away from.
i wanted to become a youtube video editor what should i do and with type of video i have to put in my portfolio i know i have to put my best work but which type of videos i have to put in my resume
It all depends on what niche you’re looking to get into! But if you’re just starting out I would just put in your best looking work no matter what it is.
As I don't know if this would be allowed on upwork.
It would be cool if you made a new account and did a how hard is it to start on upwork without having material to show.
upwork allows one account only or you might be banned
I’ve thought about this and actually tried!!! But DMJ Vlogs is right. Upworks pretty strict about account verification and they only let me use one account per phone number. BUT I would like to make more vids about this anyways because, ultimately, if you don’t have anything to show for yourself… you need to create it yourself. But how to go about doing that?? 🧐
@@ColleenCavolo I have client work from freelancing, I just joined upwork even having testimonials and work to show it's still hard to get work. Granted I have only been on the platform for less than a month so I'm still a new.
I think good idea making videos on this topic.
Well somebody with a masters degree in biomed engineering might have a better head start then somebody who went to film school.
clietns dont care. they look for stars or if you worked in companies like good. Or its just a personalitiy

How many proposals did you send in a month?
This was many years ago so it’s hard to remember. I’d try to apply to as many jobs per day as I could if they fit my ideal description. I guess 10-15 a week?
