I haven't been contacted in 23 years....all of a sudden I have an elder coming to see me tomorrow...I'm quite looking forward to the opportunity to tell him that he is in a cult and that there isn't enough money under the sun to get me to walk back through the KH doors! UPDATE: They came, they spent about 45 minutes. One Elder was someone I have known since I was a teenager and the other I had never met before. The biggest highlight was that I received an APOLOGY for the way I was treated at the time of my 'fading'. The Elder who was there at the time acknowledged that my 'situation' was not handled in the correct manner (which it wasn't). Despite the apology I stood my ground and outlined how since leaving the Borg I have been able to go to University, become a local Councillor and live abroad in a Muslim country for a number if years...things I would have never done if I was still in. I told them that I do not believe the lies of the GB and I never will. I said that If they are happy being JWs then 'fill ya boots', but I was never happy in the Borg and could never be happy in the future... There was a lot more but too much for this context.
That quite perfect situation, to accept Study from them, and during the "Study", help them to understand where there actually are, hoping they will wake up! 😉 If they come to me, I'll for sure try to do this.

I am 65. Idiot JW's bullied me to drop out of college. Never had a great job. I met many nice people outside of this crooked hypocrite cult. I preach the Gospel to JW's, and anyone I meet. I now enjoy the bible and my relationship with Jehovah and his son Jesus Christ. My best friend who was a true Christian, died 2 months ago. I can not wait to see him again in heaven, or on earth. I have never been happier.

My aunt just reached out to me this morning. This wonderful woman was like my 2nd mother. The elders can now arrange for me to have a bible study now too. I’ve been disfellowshipped for 30 years this coming October. I’m just beyond this bs. Totally unimpressed. Damage done, too late…

I remember in the nineties there was an elderly lady in my hall that converted late in life. She wore awesome polyester pants suits that she had obviously had and enjoyed wearing since she got them in the sixties. A Lot of people gave her grief for wearing pants to meetings but she was old school Eastern European and told them where to go and how to get there. She basically said that she didn't believe God needed her to get a new wardrobe, especially since she was covered and modest.She was a baddie before that was a thing. I think about that now just roll my eyes. RIP G.G.
I remember in the 80s we had the book study at our house and my best friend's grandmother came one night wearing slacks, it was ten degrees outside and she was like 85 and the damn elders counseled her about it.
@@cygnustsp would love to see the elders go around in a skirt in the winter and see how long they last. We used to hide pants under our skirts to stay warm but then some elder made a stink about that and people started wearing several layers of tights to keep warm until the uproar died down.

Think, too, of the elderly sisters and female pioneers who were out in service in winter months trying to get those hours in, in skirts and dresses with legs freezing because they couldn't wear pants! I'm so glad, no thrilled that the TOWER is finally coming down!

Then they told me I couldn't... Because I was wearing slacks and a jacket and tie, not a full matching suit. I was like, really....
I once had a conversation with a guy who was disfellowshipped and it was do hard to get him to converse. I went back to a congregation I had been in previously and saw this guy who I viewed as my good friend and I saw that he was sitting in the back room. When the meeting was over, he left immediately so I rushed out the door to catch him. That’s when he told me he was disfellowshipped and I said I didn’t care cuz it was good to see him. The whole time we talked, which was about 10 minutes, he was so scared that I would get into trouble for talking to him. I assured him that I was gonna be ok and he gave me a big hug and thanked me when he left. Treating people like they’re people goes a long way towards showing people what God’s love and mercy really looks like.

People will still talk to you and you can still attend the Mass, though cannot receive the Sacraments other than Confession. I had the great pleasure of shunning 3 witnesses last week. I have never been a witness but my mother was for 45 yrs, but she started questioning a lot of things(607, child abuse, etc) they treated her in such a vile way, completely ignoring her, I was with her on several occasions when it happened, she has passed away now but I will never forgive the ones that treated her like that, even when she was deep in she never shunned anyone, she always tried to follow Jesus. Anyway I was in a coffee shop last week and 3 of them were there and they called me several times, big beaming smiles, I just looked through them, they looked uncomfortable and then left. I know it's petty but I felt good doing it 😊

You signed up for life and therefore it takes a life to distinguish your thoughts from what they tell you thoughts should be. As a fireman if you are, you have had horrendous experiences of seeing people deeply wounded or dead. Your emotions may be so deeply pushed down for your own survival of sanity, that to you, it’s automatic and all in a days work. I don’t know you. But for the average person just trying to live and keep a family together, it’s cruel to lose that family because some man says you’re no good anymore. Like divorce or death. Grief process. Trauma. What caught my attention was how Sanderson worded it as "We have decided", maybe its just me but I remember when there were changes before it was phrased to the affect of "after prayerful consideration and with the help of Jehovahs spirit it has been decided..."

Exactly... My mother died last year. I heard about it three days after the fact by an Ex JW. Fourteen years, complete shunning of myself and her grandkids... 14 years, no contact. How does new light make up for that?

Something similar happened to me when my dad passed two years ago and btw died due from post surgery complications which could have been avoided with a blood transfusion so there's that too. Anyway they semi-shun me, and I was told he had died the day after by whatsapp and the message was time and date of the funeral not even the actual words that he had passed. And when I responded with a shocked WTF she had the courage to say they forgot to tell me, his only child, as "they" were too taken by the sorrow, so nevermind my feelings. And best of all, I know that now especially, my mother is regrettful of our non-existant relationship, I know because she messages me at days that should be special for a normal family, like on christmas day, mother day, she asks how are you etc., but this F cult has her still too brainwashed so with one gesture she reaches, and the other she steps back. For ex. She msg me on christmas day, I responded and asked how she was back it's March 16 and I'm still waiting a response. This toxic dance has been going on for the past 20+ years. It's not healthy for any of us involved. No amount of policy chance will ever ever ever make up for thousands of families ruined and we are just the 'regular' type of ruined I don't even want to start on those who suffered CSA. This cult deserves to burn to the ground in bankruptcy. I hope every country follows Norway and take away their charity status wherever they have it.

My brother texted this very same video to me today. I told him i was a victim of csa and removed from our home from child protective services. He ignored that and continued on to return to Jehoooooovah. He said they are learning new thing about how to show unconditional love. Just come back and he will show me. I said, thats not unconditional love. Im thankfuk for this video it gives a lot of context to the sitution, i was kind of blindsided this mornig!
My mother lost her 29 year old husband and 2 year old child within 9 months in separate accidents when I was a baby. JWs found her when she was out of her mind with grief and convinced her to wait for them both in the resurection. She never dated, has been alone all of her life and is still waiting to see them both again....she was 95 years old last month. The JWs now can't be bothered with her , never visit. They ruined her chance of a life, of more children, whilst they had husbands, children and grandchildren. I left when I was 23 and got divorced from a violent drunk who the elders told me i should stay wit no matter what he did., I had no childhood, and she still tries to get me back in before it's 'too late' so constant guilt trips....I am now 68.
Unbelievable! I was disfellowship 21 years ago and shunned, now of a sudden my ex-wife and my father are reaching out to me! Noooo I'm not reaching out to them! All of these changes are making my head spin!

Not sure what quoting Bible stories has to do with the fact that they want to take credit for the changes. Which are 100% their decision. They used to give credit to Jehovah as the one directing the organization. Now it seems they want the favor of the masses after ridiculing them for non-biblical teachings like growing a beard and whether or not a woman can wear nice slacks. The first 30 years of my life was in the organization, so I’m familiar with a lot more than just Bible stories. Was a regular pioneer and was groomed to be a servant most of my 20’s. What fascinates me now is how much of the legal and financial end of the organization they have kept hidden from their members. Can’t really call your organization “the Truth” when you keep so much hidden.

I think any religious group would say that even these JWs. So i just find it a little disingenuous. that is all. I'm a gay researcher by the way and I'm always interested in people's opinions--at least when they are sound. You used to believe your religion was the only true religion, I assume. So personal experiences made you change your mind? Did you examine any Biblical evidence for your religion being "the truth" or did you just go along with everything until it was no longer convenient? The latest thing that fascinates me about JWs as i research your history in times of war such as the holocaust and the genocide in Rwanda, almost no religion but them refuse to fight. As a researcher who was only nominally raised Christian, although gay, i find it fascinating that most Christians fight in wars and genocides even though 1 John 3:10-18 call them the children of the devil. So i'm not just on sites like these raising questions. I ask them as well as i explore this topic. What are your thoughts? My parents don’t talk to me or their grandchildren because I decided as a grown man, when I was free to look objectively at what they taught me and how the organization conducted itself, that it wasn’t right, or for me. Would never raise my daughter to cover her head for a man, or that a man can tell her how to dress. Wasn’t raising my sons to believe that if they grew their natural beard they would bring reproach on an organization that has millions of images of faithful servants of god with beards. There are a litany of unbiblical teachings they instill in everyone, while saying the Bible is the word of God and they are the stewards of his word. Chosen by God. When you hear your entire life how wicked everyone else is that isn’t a JW and how if you decide to leave you will loose everything you ever knew, it’s a pretty potent psychological weapon that many never get past despite how they feel inside. I was able to make the break. My brother died at 30 after he made the decision to leave and be on his own. He couldn’t fathom that they would shun him, their baby boy, after he saw how they treated me. They did. And now he’s not here. THAT is what you will never understand and should therefore should not comment on these things. I am more curious to hear how you seemingly come to the defense of an organization on a single moral stance because they chose not to fight in war (they did early on in the organization…by the way. That changed like everything else). But you ignore all of the other morally reprehensible things that are associated with them. What do you feel about the fact that they think you are a defunct sinner because of who you chose to love, or partner with? You mentioned you are gay. If you saw their children’s animated video of teaching kids how to deal with those that aren’t straight, you may not be as fascinated by them.

When I was disfellowshipped back in 2019, I kept going to the Kingdom Hall to try to get reinstated, a sister came up to me and stuck out her hand, and I told her I was disfellowshipped, and she jerked her hand back and whipped her head around in total disgust, and stomped out of the room. I turned around and sat down and cried. I’d never been treated like that by somebody, claiming to be a follower of Jesus and I knew right then and there, it was all a lie!

I have a couple stories like that too. I’m DF’d too & once was in a restaurant & there was a table of 10 Witnesses who I had been EXTREMELY close to. Babysitting & sleeping in their homes etc. but when they saw me they all stood up & marched out right past me close enough to touch. They looked straight ahead, refusing to look at me. They’re taught to not eat with a DF person so I guess that meant even at a restaurant! Tears just streamed down my face & my friend looked up from their menu & says “what’s wrong??” I was crying so hard I couldn’t speak so my friend said come on let’s leave. Have other incidents like this but too much to type here. So NOW they can be kind?? Good to know for the ones who committed suicide because of the heartless treatment!! I am just appalled!
As with many other changes the GB makes, my heart goes out to those who were and are adversely affected simply because they were witnesses at the wrong time, before the "light got brighter".

I have been alone due to this since i was 17 and im 40 now and i started going back to the KH but i question a lot . When i texted my elder after i heard the update about disfellowshipped people and he didn’t even know what i was talking about he said he would patent o it that night and they would get back to me and didn’t . I was going to go to the KH today but didn’t . I relay struggle with this

Wouldn't the most appropriate thing to do be to apply the principles of the prodigal son parable? The disfellowshipped person comes "home" and so you greet them with open arms just like the father does when his son comes home in the parable?

I was disfellowshipped about 50 years ago and I'm now 65 years of age. I find it interesting that repentance should be made to imperfect men who pose as elders in the Kingdom Hall. I found repentance to be between myself and God.I live in a different state now, but plan on going to the local Kingdom Hall very soon, letting them know I was this disfellowshipped, and for anyone who comes up to greet me or shake my hand I will keep my hands in my pocket and not speak to any of them. I just want the satisfaction of them getting a little taste of what it has felt like for me for the past 50 years.

How disconnected are they to think people don't remember it? Like when two friends have an argument and time passes and they reconcile and often don't remember why they argued in first place. He still doesn’t even read the context of 1 Corinthians 5. They should only be removed from the congregation for committing the acts described in the chapter. If people leave because their conscience forces them to, there is no scriptural grounds for shunning. And besides, when someone does commit a serious sin, the Bible actually encourages the entire congregation to meet with and reason with them, not shun them. Only if they don’t listen to reason are there grounds for removing them - Matthew 18:15-17. Even then, the council of Jesus is to forgive as long as he does not continue in the wicked path. There are no grounds to shun based on one action/mistake alone.
If they considered 2 Corinthians 2:4-8 there'll be no shunning at all. The apostle Paul mentions not to be too harsh towards an unrepentant individual, but instead reach out to him/her and extend LOVE. JW's apply this council only when disfell’d members are reinstated.
Try to get him to do his outside research, if you can. If it's really "the truth" shouldn't it stand up to scrutinizing? Shouldn't he make sure before making such a life changing decision. My research is what has kept me out for over 28 years. My parents and sister have all shunned me that entire time, if it were all up to denying my heart I would have gone back years ago. I still miss them!
I was born in and raised. I left in '94 unbaptised. Just last year 2023 my JW self appointed annointed birth mother checked with her elders on the subject of me wearing trousers to the Kingdom hall.....i was strictly told NO i could wear them but i would NOT be considered suitable for field service or baptism. I have a medical physical disability which is ehy i asked when condidering attending the hall again. Im not buying it either Lloyd!

UPDATE: They came, they spent about 45 minutes. One Elder was someone I have known since I was a teenager and the other I had never met before. The biggest highlight was that I received an APOLOGY for the way I was treated at the time of my 'fading'. The Elder who was there at the time acknowledged that my 'situation' was not handled in the correct manner (which it wasn't). Despite the apology I stood my ground and outlined how since leaving the Borg I have been able to go to University, become a local Councillor and live abroad in a Muslim country for a number if years...things I would have never done if I was still in. I told them that I do not believe the lies of the GB and I never will. I said that If they are happy being JWs then 'fill ya boots', but I was never happy in the Borg and could never be happy in the future... There was a lot more but too much for this context.
That quite perfect situation, to accept Study from them, and during the "Study", help them to understand where there actually are, hoping they will wake up! 😉

I remember in the nineties there was an elderly lady in my hall that converted late in life. She wore awesome polyester pants suits that she had obviously had and enjoyed wearing since she got them in the sixties. A Lot of people gave her grief for wearing pants to meetings but she was old school Eastern European and told them where to go and how to get there. She basically said that she didn't believe God needed her to get a new wardrobe, especially since she was covered and modest.She was a baddie before that was a thing. I think about that now just roll my eyes. RIP G.G.
I remember in the 80s we had the book study at our house and my best friend's grandmother came one night wearing slacks, it was ten degrees outside and she was like 85 and the damn elders counseled her about it.

I once had a conversation with a guy who was disfellowshipped and it was do hard to get him to converse. I went back to a congregation I had been in previously and saw this guy who I viewed as my good friend and I saw that he was sitting in the back room. When the meeting was over, he left immediately so I rushed out the door to catch him. That’s when he told me he was disfellowshipped and I said I didn’t care cuz it was good to see him. The whole time we talked, which was about 10 minutes, he was so scared that I would get into trouble for talking to him. I assured him that I was gonna be ok and he gave me a big hug and thanked me when he left. Treating people like they’re people goes a long way towards showing people what God’s love and mercy really looks like.

I had the great pleasure of shunning 3 witnesses last week. I have never been a witness but my mother was for 45 yrs, but she started questioning a lot of things(607, child abuse, etc) they treated her in such a vile way, completely ignoring her, I was with her on several occasions when it happened, she has passed away now but I will never forgive the ones that treated her like that, even when she was deep in she never shunned anyone, she always tried to follow Jesus. Anyway I was in a coffee shop last week and 3 of them were there and they called me several times, big beaming smiles, I just looked through them, they looked uncomfortable and then left. I know it's petty but I felt good doing it 😊

Something similar happened to me when my dad passed two years ago and btw died due from post surgery complications which could have been avoided with a blood transfusion so there's that too. Anyway they semi-shun me, and I was told he had died the day after by whatsapp and the message was time and date of the funeral not even the actual words that he had passed. And when I responded with a shocked WTF she had the courage to say they forgot to tell me, his only child, as "they" were too taken by the sorrow, so nevermind my feelings. And best of all, I know that now especially, my mother is regrettful of our non-existant relationship, I know because she messages me at days that should be special for a normal family, like on christmas day, mother day, she asks how are you etc., but this F cult has her still too brainwashed so with one gesture she reaches, and the other she steps back. For ex. She msg me on christmas day, I responded and asked how she was back it's March 16 and I'm still waiting a response. This toxic dance has been going on for the past 20+ years. It's not healthy for any of us involved. No amount of policy chance will ever ever ever make up for thousands of families ruined and we are just the 'regular' type of ruined I don't even want to start on those who suffered CSA. My mother lost her 29 year old husband and 2 year old child within 9 months in separate accidents when I was a baby. JWs found her when she was out of her mind with grief and convinced her to wait for them both in the resurection. She never dated, has been alone all of her life and is still waiting to see them both again....she was 95 years old last month. The JWs now can't be bothered with her , never visit. They ruined her chance of a life, of more children, whilst they had husbands, children and grandchildren. I left when I was 23 and got divorced from a violent drunk who the elders told me i should stay wit no matter what he did., I had no childhood, and she still tries to get me back in before it's 'too late' so constant guilt trips....I am now 68.
Unbelievable! I was disfellowship 21 years ago and shunned, now of a sudden my ex-wife and my father are reaching out to me! Noooo I'm not reaching out to them! All of these changes are making my head spin!

Not sure what quoting Bible stories has to do with the fact that they want to take credit for the changes. Which are 100% their decision. They used to give credit to Jehovah as the one directing the organization. Now it seems they want the favor of the masses after ridiculing them for non-biblical teachings like growing a beard and whether or not a woman can wear nice slacks.
The first 30 years of my life was in the organization, so I’m familiar with a lot more than just Bible stories. Was a regular pioneer and was groomed to be a servant most of my 20’s. What fascinates me now is how much of the legal and financial end of the organization they have kept hidden from their members. Can’t really call your organization “the Truth” when you keep so much hidden.

The latest thing that fascinates me about JWs as i research your history in times of war such as the holocaust and the genocide in Rwanda, almost no religion but them refuse to fight. As a researcher who was only nominally raised Christian, although gay, i find it fascinating that most Christians fight in wars and genocides even though 1 John 3:10-18 call them the children of the devil. So i'm not just on sites like these raising questions. I ask them as well as i explore this topic. What are your thoughts?

My parents don’t talk to me or their grandchildren because I decided as a grown man, when I was free to look objectively at what they taught me and how the organization conducted itself, that it wasn’t right, or for me. Would never raise my daughter to cover her head for a man, or that a man can tell her how to dress. Wasn’t raising my sons to believe that if they grew their natural beard they would bring reproach on an organization that has millions of images of faithful servants of god with beards. There are a litany of unbiblical teachings they instill in everyone, while saying the Bible is the word of God and they are the stewards of his word. Chosen by God.
When you hear your entire life how wicked everyone else is that isn’t a JW and how if you decide to leave you will loose everything you ever knew, it’s a pretty potent psychological weapon that many never get past despite how they feel inside. I was able to make the break. My brother died at 30 after he made the decision to leave and be on his own. He couldn’t fathom that they would shun him, their baby boy, after he saw how they treated me. They did. And now he’s not here. THAT is what you will never understand and should therefore should not comment on these things.
I am more curious to hear how you seemingly come to the defense of an organization on a single moral stance because they chose not to fight in war (they did early on in the organization…by the way. That changed like everything else). But you ignore all of the other morally reprehensible things that are associated with them. What do you feel about the fact that they think you are a defunct sinner because of who you chose to love, or partner with? You mentioned you are gay. If you saw their children’s animated video of teaching kids how to deal with those that aren’t straight, you may not be as fascinated by them.

When I was disfellowshipped back in 2019, I kept going to the Kingdom Hall to try to get reinstated, a sister came up to me and stuck out her hand, and I told her I was disfellowshipped, and she jerked her hand back and whipped her head around in total disgust, and stomped out of the room. I turned around and sat down and cried. I’d never been treated like that by somebody, claiming to be a follower of Jesus and I knew right then and there, it was all a lie!

I have a couple stories like that too. I’m DF’d too & once was in a restaurant & there was a table of 10 Witnesses who I had been EXTREMELY close to. Babysitting & sleeping in their homes etc. but when they saw me they all stood up & marched out right past me close enough to touch. They looked straight ahead, refusing to look at me. They’re taught to not eat with a DF person so I guess that meant even at a restaurant! Tears just streamed down my face & my friend looked up from their menu & says “what’s wrong??” I was crying so hard I couldn’t speak so my friend said come on let’s leave. Have other incidents like this but too much to type here.
So NOW they can be kind?? Good to know for the ones who committed suicide because of the heartless treatment!! I am just appalled!

I was disfellowshipped about 50 years ago and I'm now 65 years of age. I find it interesting that repentance should be made to imperfect men who pose as elders in the Kingdom Hall. I found repentance to be between myself and God.I live in a different state now, but plan on going to the local Kingdom Hall very soon, letting them know I was this disfellowshipped, and for anyone who comes up to greet me or shake my hand I will keep my hands in my pocket and not speak to any of them. I just want the satisfaction of them getting a little taste of what it has felt like for me for the past 50 years.

They should only be removed from the congregation for committing the acts described in the chapter. If people leave because their conscience forces them to, there is no scriptural grounds for shunning. And besides, when someone does commit a serious sin, the Bible actually encourages the entire congregation to meet with and reason with them, not shun them. Only if they don’t listen to reason are there grounds for removing them - Matthew 18:15-17. Even then, the council of Jesus is to forgive as long as he does not continue in the wicked path. There are no grounds to shun based on one action/mistake alone.
If they considered 2 Corinthians 2:4-8 there'll be no shunning at all. The apostle Paul mentions not to be too harsh towards an unrepentant individual, but instead reach out to him/her and extend LOVE.

Try to get him to do his outside research, if you can. If it's really "the truth" shouldn't it stand up to scrutinizing? Shouldn't he make sure before making such a life changing decision. My research is what has kept me out for over 28 years. My parents and sister have all shunned me that entire time, if it were all up to denying my heart I would have gone back years ago. I still miss them!

I was born in and raised. I left in '94 unbaptised. Just last year 2023 my JW self appointed annointed birth mother checked with her elders on the subject of me wearing trousers to the Kingdom hall.....i was strictly told NO i could wear them but i would NOT be considered suitable for field service or baptism. I have a medical physical disability which is ehy i asked when condidering attending the hall again.

Even thought I've been out of this religion for almost 6 years already. This is definitely NOT the same religious I grew up in. And the more i see these changes happening the more convinced i am that this is NOT the truth and i made a wise decision in leaving the organization.
