I felt like that line actually wasn't great dialog...it felt a bit forced and unnatural in terms of something someone would actually say in conversation
The movie had many wonderful quotes that have stayed with me for almost 40 years. Such as "She just reached in and put a string of lights around my heart," "I was attracted to his attraction to me," and "We all have to draw the line somewhere."
I remember a review of this film and they said, 'Of course, only a lesbian could drive backwards at 60 miles per hour.' LOL. That's how you know you're a lesbian when you can do that. It was a tongue in cheek review, I think.
Oh my goodness..Helen shaver ,her eyes..never seen that before.lively ,catchy, she is equalent to an angel .felt lucky to watch her face .,eyes especially .
Is this movie worth buying in any way? Reason is, criterion is releasing their version and I️ checked it out and looks good! Am not expecting gunfights or crazy action. If it had a good story please share
To put this movie in perspective is simply like this. Without Desert Hearts, there are no LGBT characters in TV shows, movies or any median. You don't even have Orphan Black without Desert Hearts. It was that groundbreaking in the 80s, which was a divisive time for the LGBT community. I hope this helps. Great film and a lasting legacy in this country. Good luck to you.
@@ptsdtrbl9010 My knowledge of cinema is limited but I believe I have seen better films dealing with homosexuality. Some of them predate Desert Hearts. But still I won't argue about its status as a groundbreaking lesbian film because I didn't watch it for that reason. A film should be judged on its own merits, and not the status it holds. I appreciated the love making scene in Desert Hearts which is so important to its narrative, but the film was not able to make any strong statement at the end. By the way, how do you know that this film was made before I was born?
I haven't watched this movie yet but I have the book. I couldn't finish the book because of the writing style, it was so pretentious and annoying. Anyone wants the book? I'll give it to anybody for free.
I loved this movie but the ending spoilt it for me. There was no reason for a 'did they' / 'didn't they' scenario to end on. Cay's character no matter how much she loved Vivian was ever getting on that train.
nteresting theater, what we all want, someone that wants us, cares about us. REALITY , THE older woman has money, the younger woman has no money. no matter what sex. just as you see the actors feign love, if you have the money ,you are not being seduced for money, you are being swindled. when someone pretends to be attracted to you they become very attractive ha ha
"Cay: I don't act that way to change the world. I act that way so that the goddamn world won't change me! "

@@cm88388 But dammmnnn those were classic lines I'll never forget. So they were worth something.
The photography in this film is absolutely gorgeous.
Saw this in the theater in 1985. Loved it then and still do. Predates “Carol,” which is another love of mine. 🎬❤️

Que mentira kkkk as mulheres não fazem essas loucura pela outra
that is not how you know you are a lesbian.
professor woman is also a lesbian imbecile
@@luana__9155 Fazemos sim :D tomara que vc chegue a conhecer.
“She just reached in, and put lights around my heart” Cay says to Frances, why she chose to be with Vivian.❤️
One of the best films ever! A true classic! Love it. ❤️
One of the first controversial films 1985 ☺️ and this time around it became an Iconic movie
This is such a good film. I can't wait to see it in a remastered form!
What the hell are Netflix and Watcha doing? They don’t have this masterpiece.
It's on The Criterion Channel right now.
Super sound track that suits the movie well. Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Ella Fitzgerald and more. How can it go wrong?
Just can’t get enough of this movie ❤
Oh my goodness..Helen shaver ,her eyes..never seen that before.lively ,catchy, she is equalent to an angel .felt lucky to watch her face .,eyes especially .
one of my favorite films

I have Loved this movie. For ever!!
There is supposed to be a sequel of sorts in the works. Anyone know anything? Supposed to be set in the sixties during the women’s movement.
I have not heard. Is it based on another of the Jane Rule's books?
Да, один из лучших,прекрасный и мудрый фильм. Очень рада,что он есть. Жизнь прекрасна разнообразие

I though the movie was like 5 years old because of good graphics and stuff but I didn’t know it was from 1986 lol
And it was totally scandalous in 1986!!

And the Criterion Collection released their restoration DVD/Blu Ray. I do plan on owning it as well. Long time coming for that profound honor.

Some people say that Tini Stoessel looks just like Cay, I say NO WAY!!!! Cay is prettier!!!
❤️❤️❤️
The actors were good and the love scenes were quite well done in this movie. But I thought overall this movie was just okay.
Salman Zaki same.

Why does Cay remind me of Daniel from karate kid lmao
It's the hair and the teeth I reckon xD
