Thats so cool to see a large company see the value in an employees skill set and support that skill and artistry. Very cool guy, very cool job!

I've been a cabinet designer maker finisher my whole life, I'm also a drummer, who loves the custom/exotic wood types and a good Lacquer finish. So I'm totally loving this video. And now that I know your channel exists, I'm going to have to check out more of your videos. I want to start fixing the bearing edges of the old great drum sets still out there.

Why is it still lacquer on wood instruments? Automotive switched to urethane/polyurethane in the 80s for the most part. Lacquer is pretty brittle and not durable compared. Thanks.

I got a soft spot in my heart for Pearl drums. My first official kit after I outgrew my junior set was a Pearl Forum, which I still have at my dad’s house. I’m more of a DW now, but I still play my Pearl kit when I’m there.

Cool video! After seeing this, I already am fired up about Pearl’s special event when they unveil a new flagship line of drums later this month and remember the date May 25, 2023. The day they arrive.

Eric Singer's newest kit is a "Black Chrome" kit. Pearl did all the shells but much of it was put together by Billy Baker of Baker drums in Nashville. Billy has done all of the kits for Eric since the start of the "End of the Road" tour.

I've played Pearl drums for 38 years. I don't think I would play any other drums. Still have my 1988 MLX drumset in almost mint condition. It was my 3rd Pearl kit. I will probably die with that one. Hopefully not in the cases.

Great tour Tom & Kris! You know I'm a woodworker but you probably didn't know I'm a drummer. In fact, I used to own a beautiful Pearl Masters Custom drum kit so it was really interesting to see the inner woodworks and "meet" Ron Depew. I loved the segment on different exotic wood options. Bacon Padauk... Who knew?

Good video. Now you know why drums and drum sets are the most expensive of instruments. High end pianos and harps also fall into that "expensive" category, You end up with not just an instrument, but a piece of art as well. Ron himself a master artist wood craftsman.

Kettle drums (timpani) are made of copper, not wood. Pearl doesn't make timpani, but they are the U.S. distributor for Adams, a Dutch company that makes percussion and brass instruments.
