I have communed with Boethia on the treacherous steps of the Valus Mountains, I have spoken with Mephala and sewn discord among friends, I spoken with Sheogorath and just barely deciphered his words, but the one thing I could not bring myself to do was to eliminate what may well be the last unicorn for Hircine.

Fun fact: Unicorns in the Elder Scrolls are deadric. Hircine is their creator actually, he designed them to be the ultimate prey. There's plenty of them residing within the Hunting Grounds, Hircine's realm. Unicorns on Nirn are usually brought there for the purpose of a hunt, and sometimes they get away and stay in the mortal realm. They are not a rare creature, they just aren't native to Tamriel. So you don't actually have to feel too bad for killing this one. 🦄
(And in true Elder Scrolls fashion, few people within universe are actually aware of this. So 300 in universe years later, you get a scholar bemoaning the extinction of the magical unicorns.)

Yes, and that very same note does mention there are rumors of sightings elsewhere even then. So it was definitely not the very last Unicorn, it is just as you said, they are not natural creatures so they have to be summoned somehow.
Does that mean that you could forge a weapon out of a unicorn's bound soul? Because that seems like a great weapon to dispatch Nazeem with.

Wearing the helm of the Divine Crusader also calms the beast. Not worth having the unicorn as a mount if it s just going to attack innocent bystanders though.

I spontaneously yelled, “Ouch, right in the taint!”. This drew a quizzical look from my morn-groggy wife. 😂
I remember coming across the unicorn by accident way back when. I had no idea how to kill it so I just ran away and it followed me. Freaking out, I ended up running into two minotaurs that always spawn nearby and used them to kill it. I also lead the hard way that if you have the horn before the quest, it gets bugged and you can't remove it.

They really should make an enhanced version of this game with modern graphics, but keeping the brilliant quests we all know and love.
no because they'll make the gameplay unberable, remove the fun quests, and replace characters with more "inclusive" ones and shove other political propaganda down everyone's throat, and do whatever else worse on top to ruin it, like what WC3R did with REMOVING the original so you CAN'T PLAY the non-"remastered" version.

the unicorn is a righteous creature of light. I just can't bring myself to do this quest although it is one of the lesser evil quests. And seeing the reward, I know I did the right thing

This will help me because I've had a unicorn horn stuck in my inventory for a very long time. Accidentally stumbled on one and rode it around for hours before a minotaur took it out. Picked up the horn and wasn't able to put it in my house. I actually have a lot of quest items I can't put away now even though the quests are long finished. And I'm a console rat playing a reverse compatibility digital copy of the game, so console commands are out.
My unicorn died randomly falling from the sky when I fast travelled to Bravil. 😂
I was to lazy to reload so I just finished Hircine's quest after literal months after starting it.

I still hate that there are no more pole arms or spears. It's frankly immersion breaking. It makes no sense from either a realistic or in-universe stand point. Streamlining is a sick joke by even sicker Daedric gods.
I agree. The game should start you out in clothing and steadily climb the ranks of medium armor before heavy armor is available. It might be against a person's play style but you should have to find every piece of studded leather armor before iron armor appears. As long as the game is, it should advance you gradually. I know people like picking classes but it's indeed possible to play all classes in one serious playthrough. I suppose it would ruin the RPG factor if they lead you though. The game needs to be more of a survival and all your equipment is visible in third person. You should start out at a camp you set up near the creekside. As you progress you can build your own home with a stable, get a mount and even build a wagon to carry more equipment with you etc. You'd be the target of bandits but you can still hire a bodyguard to travel with. The landscape needs to be vast and no fast travel with real life concerns like hunger, thirst, fatigue having a central role. To prevent players from steamrolling the game. It's supposed to be a challenge anyway. They should only provide really hard difficulty. You get potions and healing spells anyway. You should be able to survive only so many hits besides whatever armor deflects the attack, but you have to repair the armor or it's rendered ineffective. To some extent they have all these options but I feel like it should be mentioned.

There’s actually a lot of mods on the Oblivion Nexus for this Unicorn where you can make it essential, make it less aggressive where it only attacks something if something attacks it first, and makes it so it won’t keep going back to Grove whenever you dismount it.

Yes! More of a weathered adventurer look. I actually will probably only cycle really decent armor through the Fighters guild questline

Quit dying and stop taking direct damage. Play strategically. Use cover and defend all attacks. Learn how to play. Go read the skill book The Mirror and learn the mechanics.

Well one thing I liked about the Unicorn is the easiest way to take them on I found was with a bow. Because while it has Reflect Damage, Reflect Damage only applies to melee attacks. And while it can absorb magic cast at it, well an arrow isn't magic. It was their one intended weakness and it feels fitting for the Daedric Hunter to give you as a target. Particularly because... I found archery not all that effective otherwise compared to other forms of combat. Like the only one worse than it is probably Hand to Hand since it doesn't have the benefits that it did in Morrowind (stunlocking and increased staggers). So Archery wasn't my go to combat style in most runs making the hunt feel a bit extra challenging through it.
I also am kind of amused in the Savior's Hide. I mean it started in, Battlespire if I remember. Where it was OP as all get out and basically the only hope you had for facing the tougher enemies in that game. Really living up to its name. And in every game after that? It's gotten steadily worse and worse. It's kind of like the inverse of Volundrug's appearance (Where it was pretty dwarfy to start out and every subsequent game made it more daedric as it was corrupted). Like because it was created for that one event its magics have been fading over time. Heck if the Savior's Hide is in Elder Scrolls 6 at this rate it'll probably be leather armor with like, +5 to Health and +1% Magic Resistance...
Unarmed is fantastic in oblivion, it cause fatigue damage so enemies just fall down while you beat the shit out of them
@@stephenmccabe1489 Yeah but getting there is a pain due to the universal level scaling. Fists do low damage, always have basically. Enemies do a lot more damage per swing. And Fatigue doesn't factor as hard into combat in Oblivion as it did in Morrowind. Plus individual punches lack the stagger that would make enemies recoil to really let you unleash the beat down at higher unarmed levels in the previous game, where you basically Stunlock someone even before they're out of Fatigue.
So it's a comparative thing as I was thinking of it. Heck combined with the low damage (tops out at a base of 5 if I remember off the top of my head) it's one of those things where I just don't see the advantage. You're not getting staggers, fatigue drain is pretty slow, fatigue loss doesn't mean as much. And you end up with that "Why punch when I can just Axe them a question?" kind of calculus for me.
Basically in Morrowind it went from the 1 on 1 combat champion skill. To in Oblivion... niche usefulness? But usually if I could knock them down I could have just killed them as well.
Though maybe I'm forgetting the Fatigue usefulness. Since Hit Chance is off the table, from what I remember it's a sliding scale of raw damage you do. Like -20% if they're at zero fatigue.
