Revolut for sure, I've been trying to figure out a good solution for low cost transaction. Great video! thank you. I travel to Europe June 30 2022 and will be posting daily videos of the experience!
I was concerned about booking taxis in Italy. Free Now provides a good way to schedule taxi rides. Thank you for your help sharing this important information.
Yes, TripIt is the app I use. Since 2014. It’s free and keeps records of past holidays. Also it acknowledges safety risks in the area as well as locating cafes, ATMs, grocery stores in its maps.
wow wow wow. say hi and google translate. I am blown away that this even exists. I needed this when I was in South America. Definitely downloading most, if not all of these apps for our next adventure.
WIFI is important especially in Austrailia, where cell phones don't work, I usually use my IPAD - in airports/cafes/hotels helped me in a pich !! The Apps I liked 1. Splitwise 2. GetyourGuide 3. Omio(really important like New Zeland) few buses/trains/ car rentals - great tips Christina - Thanks
Thanks very much for all the great suggestions for the various apps. I’m downloading a few of them now right now as my first trip to Europe begins next week! l just started watching your channel, your videos are not only well done but very informative and interesting. Thanks again for doing such a great job🌻
I love and hate Europe. I was fascinated by the stunning scenery and rich history, but I was overwhelmed by the high cost. I think trainpal's discount coupon saved me.
Thank You So Much! I've been traveling for over two decades (Europe mostly) & I've actually taken in most of APP info (some I've had already). You are really AWESOME! Hope traveling folks young & old take this video class......as I call it. Rock on kiddo! Your Terrific!
I knew some of these apps, and even their not-so-obvious uses, but I think GLOBE TIPS will be my favorite. You know your stuff. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you for sharing this video. It’s exactly what I need. I am traveling to Milan and Paris next week. I learned and use your suggestion 😍🙏. Thank you.
For those purchases that you have to spend, such as train tickets tube tickets. Choosing the appropriate ticketing software and finding the biggest possible discounts is a useful way to do this. For those living in or travelling around the UK and Europe, getting a railcard is a good option. If I remember correctly there is a software that is discounting all train tickets in the UK and Europe and can also be used in conjunction with the railcard discount. It's very economical and I've spent 35% less each time I've travelled!
I've been using Kayak and Tripit side by side for years now...travelling Sept 2022 and Kayak snagged all email confirmations this time but Tripit usually does well...love the inflight 'chime' Tripit makes when it does...still, Kayak is hands down easier to use and edit...also, kayak faster with flight info updates. Great video...I downloaded many new apps thanks to you...happy travels!
Thank you for your suggestions! Downloading local apps before traveling helps you find popular places, and using web translation tools like Immersive Translate improves understanding during your journey, regardless of the country you visit.
Thanks so much. I have a few of these but this is so helpful. Some don't apply but very interested in others. Say hi is amazing. Free. And really seems to understand what I say well. I could even learn some simple phrases. (I'm going to three countries speaking 3 languages I don't know. Had no idea which to study, but I could pick up some polite phrases.)
Love your videos, very in depth and informative. I'm planning a month long backpacking trip for next year. First time doing anything like this so thanks for making these.
This is all great but I feel the first thing that should have been discussed is how to actually use my cell phone plan from the states to overseas. Do i need to upgrade my plan or replace my SIM card when I am in the country?
Depending on how long your trip is you can use your phones travel plan but i did 3 weeks and found it cheaper to but a local sim card. Ive bought from the airport for like 30 euros
This is really a great share! Yeah always so handy to have some travel apps and our mobile phone is becoming the important thing other than passport and money :) such a helpful info, thanks for sharing!
I do like your list. Note that Google Translate has conversation mode which allows you to do voice to voice translation much like Sayhi. I'm guessing (hopeful) this would work in offline mode too if you downloaded languages for offline translation. And, I'm downloading freenow currently. Thanks!
ohh awesome - I haven't used voice dictation much with Google Translate and I love how simple the SayHi interface is for that, but I'll have to give it a try!! and yess FreeNow is great. It works in lots of cities where there's no Uber or Lyft. Hope it comes in handy!
@@HappytoWander I had a few minutes this morning to look at my phone. Other apps I use in Europe are: Yelp (I'm surprised how many reviews are available around the world in Yelp), Netflix/Prime Video (downloaded shows for long flights), Rome2Rio (like Omio I suppose), WithLocals/Lonely Planet Guides (tours with locals), EatWith (meals in other's homes), Flush (find public toilets), Google Drive (same important documents offline), and finally WhatsApp (texting and calls via Wifi).
@@jc-travel Awesome roundup! I have several of those too :) Re: Rome2Rio, fun fact - as of a few months ago, Omio has acquired them so they are basically the same company but still operate with their own individual brands for now. I've always wanted to try EatWith. Maybe next time! And hahah I did have Flush on my list but had to cut a few to get down to a nice number (20).
This is such a great round up! Google Maps is my go to for info (including opening and closing times and checking out reviews of places - not just restaurants.) Google Translate is awesome too - but holy heck Say Hi ~sounds~ awesome! (Pun intended) What a great app to bring people together! :)
Yesss I was so stoked when I found out about SayHi. Some of the translations come out sounding a little funny but I guess that's half the fun. Thanks for watching, Olivia!
Yay congrats Olivia, you're this week's postcard winner! Send your mailing address to hello@happytowander.com and we'll get a fun postcard to you ASAP!
I'm curious about the Revolut credit card. Is this a chip and pin card? I couldn't tell from the website. I seem to have problems in the EU because US banks haven't moved to chip and pin cards yet. TIA!
Wow, really awesome list of apps that will come in handy this spring when I go to Europe. I tried to sign up for a Revolut card but there is a waitlist. Any idea why or how long the waitlist is? Very strange.
i was using tripit on my ipad but the app won't let me sign in on my iPhone. I've tried everything. i finally trashed the app and reinstalled, and now I'm unable to sign in OR open a new account. i kind of hate trip it.

I work at a bank and Revolut is a pain in my butt. Glad to know it works for you though.
Talk and translate is a good vocal app
I traveled through USA and Canada and WiFi is number one for me when traveling especially solo

Seriously!! What was life before Google Translate 😝
Wow! Just about to head off to Europe for 5 weeks and I've never heard of most of them. Google Translate and WiFi Map are exactly what I need! Thanks.

I really liked several of these but I am definitely going to add the app that let's me create a journal of my trip. That is so cool.
