  • A resurfaced clip captures Rishi Sunak suggesting he doesn't have working-class friends.
Describing his friendships in the BBC’s 2007 documentary series Middle Classes - Their Rise and Sprawl, Mr Sunak said: "I have friends who are aristocrats, I have friends who are upper class, I have friends who are working-class...well, not working class."
On Tuesday, July 5, Mr Sunak resigned from his position in the treasury before announcing days later on July 8, that he will be making a bid to become the next Conservative party leader and prime minister.

These people who get into power, have to be either influential socialites, rich & wealthy, have gone to certain unis, in order to get to the top job in the country. No working class person can ever hope to gain his position as PM, you have to be from wealth in order to stand a chance. Which just shows everyone, how out of touch UK politicians have become, they all spend their time, mulling over this policy, over the next policy, instead of tackling REAL issues that face the country. This is the sole reason why the UK is in a complete mess right now. It's because of burgiouse politicians like this. Who try to make themselves look ordinary, like everyone else, like as if they care, but they don't come off as ordinary working class. They couldn't even fool a child much less a full grown adult.

One does not have to be a bad person, evil, arrogant, snobbish, or “classist” to interact with only one type of people and have friends only from one strata of the society. Take an engineer or manager who works in Google. They make very good money. Often they work 10 or 12 hours a day. They only interact with people at work. Therefore everyone they interact with has at least an undergraduate degree and often a masters, PhD, MBA, or JD. Those are their friends. They do not have any working class friends. Even if they meet working class people, they will have so little in common that it is difficult for them to be friends. Similarly, a plumber probably does not have any friends who have PhDs. It’s just natural. It doesn’t imply that the Google engineer or the plumber are “classists.” That’s why I totally do not understand the comments here. People work with and hang out with people who are like them, and, therefore their friends come from similar backgrounds.
