Thank you for another interesting and enjoyable video. There is a Westport society, where every so often the members meet at a different Westport. We were told about it in Westport, New Zealand. We have Westport Co Mayo. Mayo suffered terribly in the famine and the landlord paid for passages to Canada on coffin ships. I believe there are over 80 worldwide.
So interesting to learn about the Westport society! We've certainly seen the name Westport in different places but didn't know there were as many as 80 worldwide. Thanks so much for sharing and for watching today's episode Andrew!😎
Thanks for the trip to Westport. A perfect place to reflect and you both seem to have lots of memories of the town. Am surprised it has stayed such a small town and has retained so much of its history. Places like that seem to be disappearing as the years speed by. Hope you had a good visit and am amazed at the bow of Stay Cool is so clean after the trip she has been on. Enjoy
Hi Buck, glad you enjoyed our stop at Westport! I think Westport is far enough away from a bigger city that it has not become a bedroom community for commuters. Local businesses are mainly seasonal, supporting boaters and cottagers. It’s nice that it has remained small and quaint! We are pretty diligent about keeping Stay Cool maintained and looking good. Our philosophy is to clean little and often. Thanks for watching!😎
Just another beautiful....beautiful cruise! Thanks for sharing your childhood memories of Upper Rideau Lake and Westport Village. It seems like it was a peaceful but fun place to be in your younger years growing up. I enjoyed the beauty of this video.
Thanks for the info . I am sure that will be helpful to anyone planning to do the Loop . When will you are have you already crossed your wake at Kingston ?
Morning, Westport what a wonderful town... been there a number of times, lots to see and buy! My buddy from Ayr mentioned your channel he visited our family cottage years ago and remembers all the sites you are visiting.... enjoy the Big Rideau and the system... Pete from Beckwith
Hi Pete, we agree Westport is a wonderful place to visit by car or boat! Glad you enjoyed this episode and thanks for watching! We’ll be sharing more of the Rideau Canal so stay tuned as we head south towards Kingston.😎
I used to visit Rideau when I was a young lad at a place called Homer's Haven! I am 76 now. My aunt and uncle would rent one of their cabins each summer and us kids got to go for a week! Loved it and shopping in Westport for souvenirs and treats, LOL! I can't remember if it was on the Big Rideau or the Little one! There were Locks nearby and the name Jones rings a bell.
Very cool Charles and thanks for sharing your own memories of Westport.❤️ I remember going into a corner store which sold newspapers and candy. We would choose our candy and put it in paper bags. I particularly remember black balls. When you suck on them, they change colour! I wonder if the name Jones refers to Jones Falls? You will see it in an upcoming episode... perhaps it will jog your memory. Thanks so much for watching!😎
That’s so cool! It’s such a small place and I’m sure the locals have been there over many generations. Thank you for sharing and for watching today’s episode!😎
Great video! You are making me homesick for the cottage. Narrows Lock is a favourite of ours for summer lunches. Indeed we have both enjoyed the "entertainment" (rental houseboats come to mind) and been the "entertainment" too, especially when locking down on a windy day when in some cases we have come into the lock in reverse to stop the boat in the wind. You got the perfect day to lock through. Westport is a lovely town that we often enjoy during the summer. There is a the new subdivision there that is filling up fast with very nice but expensive homes geared to empty nesters. I wonder what it will do to the quaintness of the town we enjoy. We are really enjoying following your adventures especially now that you are cruising in an area that we love.
Westport and the Rideau Lakes hold a special place in our hearts and it was wonderful for us to return, having come here since we were youngsters. We walked that new suburb in Westport and it seems to have been created with walking paths and quality homes. Stay tuned for next episode when we go to another favourite spot along the Rideau: Davis Lock! Thanks so much for following our journey Gary!
Sorry to add a 2nd comment on same video, but this may be the best one you've ever down. Not because of trip content or trials on the boat, but for the obvious love you have for the destination and memories of childhood and more with your children. Very well done. And if you'll excuse me, I have to find a tissue, because a bug or something got in my eyes and they're watering right now. Hope that's not creepy. :)
🤣😂 Hope you got that bug out of your eye!! Very sweet of you to say John. Westport holds a lot of special memories for us and always will! It’s also a favourite stop for many who cruise the Rideau Canal.🩵💙
So was the slow pace at the end planned or was it a timing thing on the boat sale? Think that would be the way I would want to end, taking time on waters vey familiar with. So, hope that was how you planned it. Thanks for the videos. Not done, but appreciate the time you spent to share your journey with everyone.
We purposefully slowed down towards the end so we could savour and enjoy one of our favourite waterways. And this allowed us to showcase the Rideau Canal. We appreciate you following our entire Great Loop journey John!😎
Hello and thanks for watching today's episode. We have three more episodes to share along the Rideau Canal and the one following those 3 will be the crossing of our wake. **Spoiler alert**... due to the time it takes to produce the videos, in real-time we have always been ahead of the videos and we have already completed our loop! We are excited to share the rest of the Rideau Canal with you and very soon the crossing of our wake at Kingston! Thanks for following our journey!😎
Hi again, we did 730 engine hours on our entire loop (not including the Bahamas side trip). The Bahamas side trip only added 80 engine hours. We didn’t take our boat to Chattanooga but stopped in Florence and drove by car!
Hi from Newboro have a great trip!
Thank you Cathy! Newboro is great… you even have a pickleball court.👍🏻 Thanks so much for watching😎

Yes, it was Jones Falls!@@staycool123
I had friends who lived in Westport. The late James Mc bride and wife Barbra. He was a furniture maker. Barbra is know as the clock lady.
That’s so cool! It’s such a small place and I’m sure the locals have been there over many generations. Thank you for sharing and for watching today’s episode!😎

Hi . Minus your side trip to the Bahamas and to Chattanooga , how many actual operational nours is your loop so far ?
That's a great question! I will look it up and get back to you! Thanks for watching!😎
...operational hours ......
